Why Russian Tanks Better Than American Tanks?

Why Russian Tanks Better Than American Tanks?
Tanks once dominated the battlefield, and possessing a powerful and well-supplied armored force was to win a war. But in an era of guerilla war and stand-off conflict, the mammoth, history defining tank battles of World War Two a repeat of which was expected if the Cold War ever went hot are seemingly a thing of the past. Nonetheless, the tank remains a vital part of any modern military, offering unparalleled ground-based firepower and remaining a symbol of the might of the world's great powers. Two of the world's biggest tank arsenals belong to the US with around 5,800 and Russia, which has over 20,000. But it is the condition and quality of these tanks that matter more than sheer numbers.

Good to hear it here, a lot of people do not realise how important doctrine is. When people compare, for instance, the T34-76 with german tanks, a lot of them never get tired to point out how bad the T34 was in comparison to german tanks. But then again, the russian tank doctrine saw tanks completely differently used. Who cares if the engines of the first T34 would die after 300km, when it was assumed, the tank will have to drive 100km tops, then it will have been destroyed - even more so, when you are capable of producing ten or fifteen armoured combat vehicles, where the enemy can produce one. Same is true for the often smiled upon italian WW2 tanks. They were designed as infantry support vehicles and mobile cover, capable of climbing steep, rocky terrain and to hiding in small ditches etc. And as such, they were not bad tanks, it's not the fault of the engineers when the military was then using them for instance in the african desert, fighting against heavily armoured and armed Mathilda tanks.

except the T34 76 was simply a better tank than German medium tanks during the early stages of the war, it had a more reliable engine because it was diesel rather than the petrol engines fitted to German tanks, it was also better armed and had sloping Armour, bare in mind there were no Panthers at that point in the war, by the time they arrived the T35 had an 85mm gun and better armour as you point out there were also thousands of them, Tiger tanks were so rare they were almost irrelevent with only 1347 built compared to over 87.000 T34's built most with the 85mm gun, which could penetrate German medium and heavy tanks.

@@someguy4512 Iraq organization of armored forces Edit Saddam Hussein ousted Ahmed Hassan al-Bakr, and began a build up of Soviet-built armored vehicles, MBTs, APCs, IFVs and the army was trained by foreign (Soviet) instructors. As he consolidated his government, Saddam built up the number of tanks for the army. Iraqi armored forces were organized at first to defend the revolutionary Iraqi state, and later enable intervention in foreign military conflicts. The regular army with its armored forces was built up with considerable Soviet military assistance and reached its peak in 1980, when it began a war with Iran. In offensive action in the conflict, tanks, reconnaissance armored vehicles, armored personnel carriers and artillery pieces of the first echelon unit normally attack using Soviet military doctrine, which if defending the tanks are dug in with the armored units and soldiers, while the heavy artillery forms up behind to support them. @@joelm.8558 >1980's iran iraq war. uhh Joel big difference between Iran-iraq war and Gulf war. and speaking of gulf war literally most of their tank where imported from China and with USSR mostly it was chinese tanks or locally produced iraqi tank Lion of Babylon (tank) not to menion thee type where Downgrade version, baically Export verions tthey wheren't even the real deal Iraq bought T-72M (Monkey) which are the export variants of the T-72A. The T-72A is the weaker T-72 model, being the T-72B 30% more armored in the hull thanks to increase of armor and better composite. The T-72A were provided as frontline tanks to the Warsaw Pact while the USSR switched to the B, selling the A’s to other countries or placing them on reserve. The T-72M was striped of the modern Soviet targeting computers and sights for some older ones. The reason is that often the USA gets to put its hands on Soviet weaponry, so they downgrade them for third countries in systems and capabilities to be sure the US would never get what the Soviet were currently using. The T-72M was then a T-72A with reduced frontal armor (thinner steel plates in the composite sandwich), cheaper construction, older sights and targeting computer. obv it's literally unfair to compare downgraded export version with M1abrahams it's just a no brainer.

just wait until Ukraine gets the Leopards and Abrams...you are going to see the toaster ovens working great Leopards shoot 30ft flames out the side and top of the turrets in either tank you are toast both sides have shells and anti tank rockets that pen the others....soon we will see the wests tanks are pretty unimpressive when matched against a peer.

If a modern MBT is penetrated then it is dead, either the tank is dead or the crew has been turned to soup. One side builds tanks with philosophy that dead is dead and follow with another tank, the other with tank is out of action, drag it back to wash out crew remains with a hosepipe then perform extensive repairs. Given the resources to get a heavily damaged tank back i to action, might it not simply be easier to build another? Im just trying to say, comparing tanks you have to take into account the wars they were designed to fight. Over time the M1 has grown to 77 tons, 60% heavier than a modern t72, if you cant see that these tanks incorporate different philosophies then stop chatting on the subject

A very oversimplification. Abrams is considered a a gen 3 tank while many russian tanks are gen 2.5 except Armata which isn't even in service yet. Abrams fires on the move very well and the turret aka the most likely place to get hit in a tank in real life (forget video-games) is very well armored. Abrams can attack probably better than most of the Russian fleet, also being heavier allows for a more stable gun platform while russian tanks bouncing around does not (I'm not talking about stabilizers because both tanks have those).
