Why Russia Must Suffer A 'Devastating Defeat' In Ukraine

"It is time to stop worrying about sparing Putin’s feelings. That is the mind-set that led to the invasion of Ukraine in the first place," writes Max Boot in a new Washington Post column. Boot joins Morning Joe to discuss along with Katty Kay.

The new language law prohibited all minority languages from secondary education, except turkish tatar. They are forcing media broadcasting in Ukrainian Language. Public servants must only speak Ukrainian. This isn't freedom and democracy.

For mr. Boot, it is very easy to talk about the 'devestating defeat' that Russia is supposed to have, as long as no countrymen of him have to die for it. It's also typical for the Americans to be that guillible to fall for his kind of rhetoric. After all, the American people never experienced war. So far, Russia hasn't lost the war for the Donbass. On the contrary, they gain ground every day. It goes slowly, alright, but Russia has the means (soldiers, weapons, tanks, aircraft, ...) to make slow progress. Very slow, even. If Russia decides to make of it a very prolongued war, I wonder whether the Ukrainians will be able to still resist Russia, after a year or five.

We need to keep repeating this message, this truth, so Putin's agents in the West, and on the internet, don't weaken our resolve to defend freedom wherever and whenever it needs help. It is shameful that as the world discovers more of horrific Russian war crimes, some want to protect the feelings of a murderous tyrant.

Russian GDP as of 2013: 2.292 Trillion USD Russian GDP as of 2020: 1.483 Trillion USD If the Russian central bank is to be believed, they'll lose another 10% by the end of this year. If this fall continues, the Russian economy will collapse by the end of the decade. This is probably the real reason behind this invasion. Putin needs these sanctions lifted. What is the difference between them and a country like Russia with only the same people who loves their country and wouldn't accept their land surrounded by America who is scared of been topple by another strong country and its puppet states in Europe and UK under the disguise of NATO . I see no democracy in Europe and America except criminals with corrupt intention to become millionaires whiles their minions are the first to go to the polling centres to cast their votes for them. That is exactly what annoys me with our german government. They always go 'of course we need to help Ukraine, but let's not hurt Russia's feelings in the process'. I wish they were finally taking up a political leader role in Europe instead of just paying for anything and keeping out of doing meaningful things like they usually do. They really gave away the opportunity to present themselves to Ukraine as a real friend like the UK or Poland.

You probably intentionally forget, or most likely never knew, that one of many decisions from Nürnberg is that Germany never again engages in any war conflicts even as peace keepers. It’s interesting that Germany is sending war machinery to Ukrainians, which is actually Germany’s second (direct or indirect) involvement in any war conflicts after the WW2. It’s totally irrelevant where Germans engaged in the first military operation after the WW2. On top of every nonsense that you said, Germans don’t care much about anyone’s feelings but know what is at stake if they don’t play a wise game with Russia. I really think that most Germans are better informed than most Americans are. Your ignorance makes me question if you are really German or you simply spent most of your life outside of Germany and became less and less knowledgeable about your “own” country.

NATO which includes the US and UK should make it abundantly clear to Putin, that if any Russian nuclear weapon is launched on any target, that NATO will respond in kind at Putin's location, on the Kremlin and/or other major targets within Russia. Use Putin's own words back to him. That our response would be 'lightening fast, and that he would face consequences greater than he has ever seen before in history.' It would be more risky to back down to this bully. "The Soviet understands only one language: action. Respects only one word: force." - Dean Acheson

@@rishabhsood5133 We're talking about if Putin had already used nukes. I think it would be academic whether NATO retaliated with nukes or massive attacks with only conventional weapons. By then it would be too late anyway. Putin is using the fear of his nuclear arsenal to extort his demands, so my point is instead of NATO appeasing him and appearing timid they should throw the threat right back at him. The point is to deter Putin from using nukes in the first place. There's not much point having a nuclear deterrent if your going to show your hand that you will never use them. This is a dangerous game of nuclear poker, but what option do we have? Backing down will only encourage Putin to use at least a tactical nuke to see what the response is. We don't want to be in that position. We need to prevent it happening in the first place and being timid is not going to work on a bully like Putin. We have plenty of submarines too, and my guess is they are already patrolling close to Russia territory. And even if Putin did order a nuclear strike it's highly likely that those orders would be disobeyed. There's already historical precedent in the cases of Vasili Arkhipov and Stanislav Petrov. Look it up.

@@rishabhsood5133 First of all NATO is a defensive organization that requires countries to apply to join NATO to come under its protective umbrella. NATO was never a threat to Russia, and that's obvious due to their reluctance to directly defend Ukraine for fear of starting WW3 and/or a nuclear war. So, NATO has never had aggressive intentions of attacking or invading Russia. All these countries that have joined, did so because they didn't trust Russia and the invasions by Russia of Georgia, Crimea, Donbas and now all of Ukraine prove that distrust was valid. The 'bear' (Putin/Russia) went rogue on his own volition, no one 'poked the bear in the eye.' Putin uses any excuse for his actions if he thinks he can get away with it domestically and with geo-political leaders around the World. There's no solid proof that the Russian people support him, because most are too afraid to speak the truth, and those that do support him are falling prey to state propaganda that will not tell them the truth, but rather instead manipulate them with lies and disinformation. Using the example of the 'Cuban Missile Crisis 60 years ago is irrelevant to what's going on now. If anything it should be a lesson. As a global community we should be learning to be peaceful and get on with one another NOT continue killing and brutalizing the population of Ukraine 'that WAS minding its own business' until Putin decided he wanted more imperial power, and was okay using force and mass violence to get it. After WW2, we created the United Nations (formerly the League of Nations) for negotiating international disputes as an alternative to going to war. But some authoritarian dictators like Putin refuse to play by any rules. Putin is not only destroying Ukraine, he's destroying Russia and global peace and stability. Putin is making it necessary for us to waste money and resources on weapons of killing and destruction, money and resources that should be going towards efforts to improve the quality of life for everyone. This war is an unnecessary distraction, caused by selfish greedy man intent on being in power for life. There's no excuse for that!
