Why Rules for Adding Subtracting with Significant Figures are different from Multiplying Dividing

Ever wonder why the rules for adding and subtracting with significant figures and multiplying and dividing with significant figures are different? When adding and subtracting, you look for the weakest point of the weakest link in the calculation and match that precision. When multiplying or dividing, you count the number of significant figures and truncate your answer to match the number of significant figures in the number that has the least amount significant figures. Isn’t it odd that we don’t apply the same rule? Well in this video we try to answer this question. Have fun!
