I kind of wish that they made pitch much more of a threat. Pitch is supposed to represent fear and fear isn’t just limited to kids. For example, Pitch could have caused doubts in people that stop them from doing the right thing out of fear that they will be ostracized or he could plant fear into world leaders so that they might be more likely to start a war out of fear that the other country might destroy them first. It would show that fear is a very real threat and I think it would make the message much more pronounced.

  • @gabrielhagedorn5942

I agree. While I still think that Pitch was utilized well in the film (he was intimidating, well acted, and posed a legitimate threat based on what he did), they could have done more with him as a character since the effects of fear are so wide ranging.

One very small thing I like about this movie, is that its NOT a Christmas movie. Yes, Santa is one of the main characters. Yes, Jack Frost is also _the_ main character... But the movie itself actually takes place around Easter. One could make the argument that its technically an Easter movie, even though its not the main focus overrall.

I liked the movie as a kid but as a kid I didn’t understand why jack had to die and lose his family which was sad, but as an adult I kinda get it now only a person truly cares about others over himself at death should be a person to spread that joy after all if he did nothing his sister would have died in that situation but still I wish there was just a small detail they could have done for their family connection and not just for backstory purposes.

Rise of the Guardians is an example of the brilliance of Willam Joyce as a storyteller: his characters are very charming, the worldbuilding is fantastical, and the way he presents childhood is nothing short of magical. 😊 If you want to find more of his works in film, I highly recommend Meet the Robinsons and the Netflix mini series, Lost Ollie!

Positivity as well as Negativity. They are two sides of the same coin. Neither is being purely negative nor purely Optimistic the answer. A healthy Balance of both is needed. (Yes toxic positivity exist and is unhealthy. While you dont need/should dwell on pain/negative emotions, to always repress them is equally unhealthy then to sink into them.

It's so baffling to me that this movie is forgotten. It has most if not all the landmarks of a great Dreamworks movie like characters that feel real and you care for, a story that appeals to everyone, an amazing villan etc. Sure it's not up there with the likes of the Shrek or Kung fu Panda but it doesn't have to be in order to just be an enjoyable movie. I think the main reason why RotG was due to Dreamworks's bad marketing and releasing in a busy month (November 2012 had movies like Wreck it-Ralph and Hotel Transylvania) Anyway great video as always :)

I'm so glad this movie is starting to get more attention after over a decade. Watching it as a child, I didn't retain much, but watching it as an adult, it's so fucking great. Especially the scene with Jack and his sister. As someone who's a big brother to 4 as well as an uncle, holy shit, Jack's sister's reaction to him dying and sacrificing himself always makes me cry, probably because I wouldn't hesitate to do the exact same thing, even if I had to face the prospect of the agony of drowning.

This is a word that comes up every once in a while, "woke". It means to be socially aware and alert to social injustice, primarily racism. While I understand the need to acknowledge such issues, be it on a social and/or individual basis, extremists (particularly online) take the "alert" portion of that word to an obsessive extent and jump to conclusions about others who have different ways of going about them, rather than trusting that they understood.

Honestly, I view the same way for Sykes as you do for Pitch. I understand why people think he's generic, but what I love about him is how he is so different compared to other Disney villains! Even though he's relaxed in his car or sitting at a desk, he can still be really threatening because we know what he's capable of. He has strength that can break down a door, he can snap his fingers for his Doberman to attack, and has weapons like an axe and a gun (and I wish he used them for his advantage but of course, this is a kids movie so we have to sugarcoat it.) Not to mention, that I've never seen a villain who dislikes the homeless. I don't why but I just adore his character!

The Easter Bunny represents hope in times of hardship and the promise of new life. The Tooth Fairy represents the value of self-worth and how our memories can shape who we are. Sandman represents dreams and ambitions and Jack Frost is about simply having fun. And the value of interpersonal connection. And Pitch is just Fox "news".

But the ending of the book gives a great qoute, “the dark is generous and it is patient and it always wins - but in the heart of its strength lies its weakness: one lone candle is enough to hold it back. Love is more than a candle. Love can ignite the stars.” The darkness and shadow around us is only as strong as we allow it to be.

Eh, I don't know, I prefer nuance. Very often people call things that are true "negative" or refuse to acknowledge them in order to hold to their ideals even if the consequences are worse

I feel like they should make a prequel movies for each guardian (With the Puss in Boots 2 writers PLEASE). They can explore different times in history and it's cultures, different themes to link to the guardians journeys. They can also have Jack make some appearances as for the eastern Bunny movie for example and how their rivalry began. With Jack's character they have 300 years worth of possible content to create. I feel like this franchise has the potential to be like the How To Train Your Dragon franchise.

Out of all Dreamworks movies, the one I'd personally want to see a review on more than anything else by far is Kung Fu Panda 2. The first and third always get talked about fir different reasons, but I so often see the second just glanced over unless someone is doing a ranking. It truly is an absolute masterpiece of a movie and it's in the unfortunate state of not getting noticed because its successor completely kiddy-fied most aspects about the movie and the first started everything

thank you for all of this! this movie and the books that work with it are just *a massive chef's kiss* Seriously, this is on the same level of love as my favorite childhood series teen titans. ever hear of sleep deprivation and night terrors? Those can kill a person or drive them to self harm. those kids are gonna need some time to completely recover.

I just hope that in the movie of Shrek 5, once Disney buys DreamWorks, all The Official Disney Princes and all The Official Disney Princesses appear, especially the most important character in the movie of The Little Mermaid 2: Return to the Sea, Melody, The Daughter of Prince Eric and Princess Ariel, with her best friends Tip, Dash, Kiera and Catalina, and besides, they will be the new main characters of the movie of Shrek 5 so that they help Shrek, Princess Fiona, Donkey, Dragon, Puss in Boots, Kitty Softpaws, Perrito, Dulcinea, The Three Diablos, Goldilocks, The Three Bears, Prince Lancelot, Princess Tiffany, King Artie, Princess Guinevere, The Children of Shrek and Princess Fiona: Fergus, Farkle and Felicia, The Children of Donkey and Dragon: Bananas, Parfait, Peanut, Eclair, Coco and Debbie and The Others to defeat Rumpelstiltskin, Death, all The Official Villains of Disney and all The Official Villains of DreamWorks, as Queen Grimhilde, Lady Tremaine, Maleficent, Marina del Rey, Ursula, Gaston LeGume, Jafar, John Ratcliffe, Shan Yu, Dr. Facilier, Zhan Tiri, Judge Claude Frollo, Mother Gothel, Tamatoa, Drago Bludvist, Grimmel The Grisly, Mor'du, Prince Hans, King Runeard, Pitch Black, The Druun, The Soldiers, Dr. Zara, Queen Nerissa, King Magnifico, Morgana, Evil Rapunzel and Drizella Tremaine, and to prevent Rumpelstiltskin, Death, all The Official Villains of Disney and all The Official Villains of DreamWorks from ruling and destroying all The Multiverse Forever, especially The Kingdom of Far Far Away, Shrek along with his wife named Princess Fiona will need help from their new friends which are all The Official Disney Princes and all The Official Disney Princesses, as Prince Florian, Princess Snow White, Prince Charming, Princess Cinderella, Prince Philip, Princess Aurora, Prince Eric, Princess Ariel, Prince Adam, Princess Belle, Prince Aladdin, Princess Jasmine, Prince John Smith, Princess Pocahontas, Prince Li Shang, Princess Fa Mulan, Prince Naveen, Princess Tiana, Prince Flynn Rider, Princess Rapunzel, Maui, Queen Moana Waialiki, Hiccup Haddock, Princess Merida, Kristoff Bjorgman, Queen Anna, Jack Frost, Princess Elsa, Varian, Cassandra, Jin, Yi, Connor, Ruby Gillman, The Baker, Anastasia Tremaine, Starboy, Princess Asha, Princess Raya, Princess Mirabel Madrigal, Ting-Ting, Su, and Mei, Charlotte La Bouff, Nakoma, Namaari, Luisa Madrigal, Isabela Madrigal, The Other Six Princesses of The Kingdom of Atlantica and Melody, but actually, Melody is The First and Only that she is not a True Official Disney Princess, because Melody made her debut in the movie of The Little Mermaid 2: Return to the Sea and it is also because she is The First and Only Daughter of an Official Disney Princess, but Shrek, Princess Fiona, Donkey, Dragon, Puss in Boots, Kitty Softpaws, Perrito, Dulcinea, The Three Diablos, Goldilocks, The Three Bears, Prince Lancelot, Princess Tiffany, King Artie, Princess Guinevere, The Children of Shrek and Princess Fiona: Fergus, Farkle and Felicia, The Children of Donkey and Dragon: Bananas, Parfait, Peanut, Eclair, Coco and Debbie and The Others also need Melody's help to protect and save all The Multiverse, especially Their Kingdom of Far Far Away away from Rumpelstiltskin, Death, all The Official Villains of Disney and all The Official Villains of DreamWorks, because Melody is The Daughter of Prince Eric and Princess Ariel, but also The Death of Queen Lillian, because since her husband named King Harold passed away in the movie of Shrek 3, she has felt heartbroken and that caused her own death in her Kingdom of Far Far Away, and all The Inhabitants of The Kingdom of Far Far Away are saddened by The Death of Queen Lillian, because now she is with her husband named King Harold in heaven, and now they have lost their queen, that means now The Kingdom of Far Far Away needs a new queen and King Artie said that his love interest, girlfriend, fiancée and former classmate from Worcestershire school called Princess Guinevere would be the one to be The New Queen of Far Far Away, so King Artie decided to return to his old school called Worcestershire along with Shrek, with his older cousin Princess Fiona, with Donkey, with Dragon, with Puss in Boots, with Kitty Softpaws, with Perrito, with Dulcinea, with The Three Diablos, with Goldilocks, with The Three Bears, with The Children of Shrek and Princess Fiona: Fergus, Farkle and Felicia, with The Children of Donkey and Dragon: Bananas, Parfait, Peanut, Eclair, Coco and Debbie and with the Others to meet again with their friends from their school who are actually Prince Lancelot, Princess Tiffany and his love interest, girlfriend and fiancée Princess Guinevere to take them back to his Kingdom of Far Far Away, and also The Romance of all The Official Disney Princes and all The Official Disney Princesses, especially The Romance of Maui and Queen Moana Waialiki, The Romance of Hiccup Haddock and Princess Merida, The Romance of Jack Frost and Princess Elsa, The Romance of Varian and Cassandra, The Romance of Starboy and Princess Asha, The Romance of Prince Lancelot and Princess Tiffany and The Romance of King Artie and Princess Guinevere, because I think that Maui will be Queen Moana Waialiki's love interest, boyfriend and fiancé, while Hiccup Haddock will be Princess Merida's love interest and boyfriend, Princess Tiffany will be Prince Lancelot's love interest, girlfriend and fiancée and Princess Guinevere will be King Artie's love interest, girlfriend and fiancée, because Queen Moana Waialiki is going to fall in love with Maui, Princess Merida is going to fall in love Hiccup Haddock, Princess Tiffany is going to fall in love with Prince Lancelot and Princess Guinevere is going to fall in love with King Artie, but they don't know how to tell them their feelings towards them and neither how to win their hearts, because every time Queen Moana Waialiki gets too close to Maui when it comes to true love, she gets very nervous with him, while which in the case of Princess Merida is also the same, because whenever Princess Merida gets too close to Hiccup Haddock when it comes to true love, she also gets very nervous with him, in the case of Princess Tiffany it is also the same, because whenever Princess Tiffany gets too close to Prince Lancelot when it comes to true love, she also gets very nervous around him, and in the case of Princess Guinevere too, because every time Princess Guinevere gets too close to King Artie when it comes to true love, she also gets very nervous around him, but luckily for them, Princess Fiona will help Queen Moana Waialiki to win The Heart of Maui, also Princess Merida to win The Heart of Hiccup Haddock, also Princess Tiffany to win The Heart of Prince Lancelot and also Princess Guinevere to win The Heart of King Artie, and I also want that Jack Frost will be Princess Elsa's love interest and boyfriend and Varian will be Cassandra's love interest and boyfriend, because Jack Frost leaves fall in love with Princess Elsa, but he doesn't know how to tell her his feelings and how to win her heart, because every time Jack Frost gets too close to Princess Elsa when it comes to true love, he gets very nervous with her, because Varian leaves fall in love with Cassandra, but he doesn't know how to tell her his feelings and how to win her heart, because every time Varian gets too close to Cassandra when it comes to true love, he gets very nervous with her, but fortunately for they, Shrek will help Jack Frost to win The Heart of Princess Elsa and also Varian to win The Heart of Cassandra, except Goldilocks, Namaari, Luisa Madrigal, Isabela Madrigal, Princess Raya and Princess Mirabel Madrigal, because now they will be The Only Official Disney Princesses who do not need to have love interests and who can remain single forever, and also the same for Melody, The Daughter of Prince Eric and Princess Ariel, because like her new adoptive aunts Goldilocks, Namaari, Luisa Madrigal, Isabela Madrigal, Princess Raya and Princess Mirabel Madrigal, she doesn't need a love interest either, but also The Rivalry of King Artie and Queen Anna because they both want to compete in a challenge to see who is The Best Ruler of a Kingdom, because both want to do what is best for Their Own Kingdom, because King Artie wants to do the best for his Kingdom of Far Far Away because now he is The New King of Far Far Away and Queen Anna wants to do the best for her Kingdom of Arendelle because now she is The New Queen of Arendelle, but at the end, King Artie and Queen Anna become best friends in the world, because at the end, they both learned from their mistakes that they have made since their challenge to compete to see who is the best ruler of a Kingdom, and that at the end, King Artie and Princess Guinevere see their first true love kiss and that they become a romantic couple, just like Prince Lancelot and Princess Tiffany, and also that at the end of the movie of Shrek 5, Shrek becomes The New Leader of The Official Disney Princes and Maui, Hiccup Haddock, Kristoff Bjorgman, Jack Frost, Varian, Jin, Connor, The Baker, Starboy, Prince Lancelot and King Artie become The New Official Members of The Official Disney Princes, while Princess Fiona becomes The New Leader of The Official Disney Princesses and Queen Anna, Princess Elsa, Cassandra, Yi, Ruby Gillman, Anastasia Tremaine, Princess Asha, Goldilocks, Namaari, Nakoma, Ting-Ting, Su, and Mei, Charlotte La Bouff, Luisa Madrigal, Isabela Madrigal, The Other Six Princesses of The Kingdom of Atlantica, Princess Raya, Princess Mirabel Madrigal, Princess Tiffany and Princess Guinevere become The New Official Members of The Official Disney Princesses and that one day, Princess Tiffany will be The Wife of Prince Lancelot and that they have a family in the future, and that also Princess Guinevere is The Wife of King Artie, that they also have a family and that she becomes The New Queen of Far Far Away in The Future.

I love this movie from the moment I first saw it, and I've watched about 20 or more times since then. I adore everything about it, it's probably my favourite DreamWorks film out of them all. ❤ (I also personally ñike a lot Jamie and his friends. This film has a lot of characters and the fact that Jamie and his friends don't all blend together and have all distinct personalities from one another is proof of pretty good writing.)
