Why Putin Ordered Alexander Litvinenko's Murder | Hunting The KGB Killers | Timeline

Alexander Litvinenko, a former officer of the Russian secret service, died in London in 2006 from poisoning by radioactive polonium. This film reveals for the first time the remarkable details of the Scotland Yard investigation into Alexander Litvinenko’s murder by Russian agents, and how he helped the police on his deathbed. Combining first hand testimony from key witnesses, with first class dramatisation of key events and never-before-seen archive, this film shows how the Russian Secret Service so nearly got away with murder, and demonstrates the ramifications that are still being played out today.

Why the British thought the Russian authorities would cooperate with them at all in the first place is astounding. The entire charade of interviewing in a Chernobyl service hospital that was probably never used and rather out of the way is rather telling. Plus they never did really identify the man they supposedly questioned.

As always when you see the west praising something knows that they are diverting from what they have done and do not care about anything. If Russians wanted to kill Alex they could have done that while he was in prison for a year not inside the UK to bring global talking We're not fools the western secret agents killed Alex, there's no way an a Russian secret agent is visiting the UK and is not subjected to stringent search, tests and surveillance by the UK, this are top priority to the UK police. to make matters worse how do you carry Polonium into and evades all UK airports without being detected by radiation testers,? If the so called Russian spies who came to kill Alex accessed Polonium inside the UK how pathetic can that be that you allow Russian your biggest enemies to atomic plants and reactors? do not divert the investigation away from reality. The Wife is being consoled to not see what have happen and ask questions 17 years down the line someone came from Russia came into the Uk and killed a Russian spy just because Alex got a visit from his country mans and the UK and this made the UK sceptic , get to the basic we know what investigations is.

So again, *they choose to do it* And Litvinenkos legacy will stone graved in epitome of special agencing in Russia(the price and skill/effectiveness of Russian espionage) forever, not in the document or tablet, but in the heart and minds of Russian top operators of the day(cuz docu on stuff like this got destroyed every time operational satisfaction is met). Hope you understand what i meant by now. I shouldn't be go around spouting about like this as an easterner i know, but I've had a change of heart as Russian espionage of the day has reached over its effectiveness point that what they are doing had piggybacking them (the people of Russia) back. For example the downfall of USA would not give anyone(not a Russian, not a Chinese, not even iranian for a fact!) a golden era, instead a hellish life because the world already has been relied to much upon the US' innovations and services(gps, and the internet to named a *few* , very few). All we heard in the US was that he was critically ill, then he was dead. Nothing about his suffering or his GI tract being completely delaminated and raw, he wasn't able to eat or swallow, he could barely speak and was in dreadful pain. In my youth I had repeated strep infections in my throat, and 60 years later I can remember how excruciating it was to swallow my own saliva, I needed a cup near me to spit in. But still you must swallow, you just can't stop swallowing no matter how much it hurts. And it was only my throat. It must all have been torture.

Poor guy. I’m American and I feel for this dude. He just wanted to do good by his country and by his people and they literally tortured him to death, with poisoning, after he already was thrown in jail and fled the country. That’s what we call a hero here in America. Just wish it didn’t go down this way but we all know about the gangster government out there. One could’ve easily predicted that eventually the systematic oppression would trample over good people.

There is more to it then just what is said here. Almost has to be. He was given a new name and a passport by the UK. He was in contact and had regular meetings with the guy that confirmed his identity in the hospital. The MI6 guy. He was a high ranking officer in the fsb in Russia handling very sensitive info. In the cold war they used to be named defectors. He gave the British an inside look in to the fsb. Russia killed a defector. But... This defector gave a press conference in Russia revealing the workings of a highly security department of the fsb. That shows either of two things does it not? 1. He went public to try and protect himself because he knew he was at that time on a death list. In case of his death after that the reason for his death was clear for all to see. Or they would stop the murder attempt because of that 2. He had enough of the corrupt dealings within the fsb. Her went to jail for a year. Why a year? Was it not obvious that he would be threat to the fsb at that time? He got his family and himself to the UK after that prison term. He must have been watched by the fsb after getting out of jail. They knew he was going to leave to the UK? This documentary raises more questions then it answers. Its just a part of a story.

CBC Polonium Poisoning doc sets the stage, Litvinenko investigated the Beresovsky bomb and Beresovsky had suggested Putin to Yeltsin as FSB chief. So power battles were happening to succeed Yeltsin. Later Litvinenko put together a book "Blowing up Russia" about FSB explosions predicting that it was the pretext to reinvade Chechnya. The guy was totally burned as an agent, no access to secret material. What he could do was network, talking to contacts, report assessments and insider talk to SIS. Putin is a mob boss, he chose to intimidate Russians both abroad and opponents with his implausible deniability. The Nuclear Hospital no.6 circus and missing tape was to create conspiracy theories. Sasha was granted asylum, had left after time in gaol following his whistle blowing, changing his name would be normal for privacy reasons. That he was actually meeting an Italian security analyst AND Russians working as private investigators means he wasn't given a new identity, he was consulting based on his KGB past. By whistle blowing he had blown his secret information already. The SIS number was a fallback in event of issues; an official simply needed to access the political asylum file to confirm he had left. No agent handler would go to assist police at the hospital. Sasha would have been fully debriefed by MI6 when assessing his asylum and then had little intelligence value.
