@@boooster101 The labyrinth duel was actually one of the most entertaining moments of the YGO anime. I think with some refining, those rules would make for a pretty good IRL tabletop game.

Living Fossil is used because its restrictions don't matter when all you need is to use the revived monster as a tribute. Also, by using it as Xyz material, it bypasses the banish part and gets to go to the GY instead once detached.

I see, then all we need to do is ban every single card that can abuse premature burial. THEN WE CAN BRING IT BACK TO 3. Boom, i just solved everything

That's the thing, the mentality players have is pretty stupid. EVERY life point matters. I can give you prominent examples of times when having lost x amount caused me to lose the duel when it wasn't my final life points when I lost them. Upstart Goblin is absurd for this reason and also because of cards which utilize the difference in life points. Not to mention, the cost is ONLY trivial if you have more than eight hundred life points, whatever is lost from the top of the deck doesn't matter and you don't need to summon and you are guaranteed to win that turn but such guarantees are few and far between.

Because it can summon Obelisk and Slifer from the grave with no tributes God card beatdown too OP

In addition to being amazing with lonefire blossom, it also enables a ton of FTKs involving Dewloren. Basically for the same reasons as why premature burial is banned.

Same as with Burial but now you need to burn your 3 Lonefire's first and than you can do the same shit. Though its limit is stupid and I doubt somebody is going to win with a 4 card combo + whatever FTK moster you need.

@@drunkenpumpkins7401 I wouldn't say a 4 card combo. Remember that Lonefire isn't a hard once per turn, can use itself as the cost, and can summon other copies of itself. In other words, once you have the first copy you basically have all 3. Not saying that still makes Symbol banworthy (it might), but that is something to keep in mind.

If you look at its replacements, Living Fossil and Overdone Burial, they come with a significant cost, negate the monster's effects, and are hard once per turns. Even Konami can learn... eventually.

Konami doesn't want to erata it and the Isolde, in to summon sorceror into blackwings into powertool pick and bonce would be too good. Cause it would put 1 (or 2) more body(ies) on board cause an extra discard doesn't mean anything with gumblar banned. Idk what that extra body(ies) would be or what it would lead to but I'm pretty sure it leads to more broken stuff and they would find a way to go Rusty, Azathot, Darklaw and a borrel/saruja or some other good generic monster cause why not.

Also Premature Burial can be searched with Power Tool Dragon. There is already a play that uses Power Tool Dragon to search DDR that is used in combination with Isolde, Divine Sword Phoenix Blade, and Zephyros to reuse Armageddon Knight multiple times per turn and gain a million pluses.

Its amazing how much good content and good titles you come up keep it up doug. If only I had a dezeef for all of my desired content be it Call of Duty Zombies, Soccer or even on Politics I would literally be happy with being subscribed to 30 different dougs

tbh living fossil isn't played because it's good but rather because it's one of the least bad generic equip spells with an actual effect that can extend plays. overall it's still technically a garnet. I'm not really sure in this particular case that having fossil be replaced by burial in the deck (or maybe overdone burial or the fourth more variant equip be replaced) would have that much of an impact. if replacing the random equip i guess it would make the line of play where you draw one of the garnets more consistant but that's about it. otherwise, while i'm not certain that any actual current good deck could abuse it by bouncing it multiple times or something for now, and i'm not sure either if it being searchable is that relevant seeing how in a lot of decks the normal summon is still very important, i can definitely see how easy it would be to abuse in the right circumstances so it's understandable that it hasn't come back yet.

Premature always was a problematic card (as in very combo-able) and when equip searchers and bouncing effects got more prevalent it became pretty obvious that it would never see the light of day again. I feintly remember some equip spell synchro era FTK (?) and I think they used Premature there as well.

Premature Burial can be returned to the hand or Deck, or banished, and you still keep the monster that PB revived. This created a potential endless loop that let you bypass the restrictions on PB, turning it into a pseudo Monster Reborn that you merely pay LP for. Want the best example? Look no further than Joey Wheeler. During the KC Grand Championship arc of the DM anime, he used a combo of Giant Trunade and Premature Burial to revive Gilford the Lightning and Goblin Attack Force to beat Solomon Mutou (Yugi's grandpa).

Merely pay life points for? Dude, you pay eight hundred each time! If you need to summon eight monsters with it, that's SIX THOUSAND four hundred. Even with today's LP, that's a lot. And considering all the cards that send monsters to the banish pile or prevent you from targeting monsters in the graveyard, it's really not that powerful.

@@boredfangerrude Well, think about it: Soul Charge required you to give up 1000 LP for each monster it revived, and that shit is now banned. Know why? Because it allowed for GY revival en masse. One card reviving up to 5 monsters at once is just stupid especially today in MR4, the restrictions on it be damned. Premature Burial could probably come back to 1 as long as you get rid of the generic bullshit that bounces Spells back to the hand. That loop with such cards (Giant Trunade, for example, which is now thankfully banned) was what got PB banned in the first place. Of course Power Tool Dragon has a 1 in 3 chance to grab Premature Burial from the Deck, so we gotta be "just a lil' bit" careful about doing so.

Hidden armory: Exists. Sorry gotta ban all equip spells.

This doesn't make any sense to me. If hidden armory breaks several cards, wouldn't it make more sense to just ban that card? It seems way more disruptive to ban several cards than 1 card that enables those cards to be overpowered. Is there a reason it is seen as a better decision to ban several cards as opposed to one?

@@MistaOppritunity Well, I would say the way to think about it is that if the equip spells is unbalanced because its searchable, then it probably has other factors that make it unbalanced. The bigger problem with premature burial is bouncing, not being easily searchable. Even if hidden armory may be that last tipping point that pushes some equip spells over the edge into ban territory, it would suck for the properly balanced equip spells to lose their search card.

@@jaketerpening3284 what I was getting at is that hidden armory is bad because several of it's good search targets are overpowered, and it's supposedly because of hidden armory. To me, the way it's explained, that sounds like hidden armory is the problem. It's like how on this channel Dzeef explained that pot of greed being good for rogue like decks doesn't make those decks good; it makes every deck better... although in this instance it's to a lesser degree since it's more specific.

Hey Dzeef, Living fossil just got released as a UR in Duel Links. Do you think it could possibly impact the meta?

I'd be really interested in your extending your banned XYZ monsters list to include other cards on the ban list, some of them seem odd to be for for casual or even players that haven't been around since they were there. Things like Butterfly Dagger, Susbtitoad, Metamorphosis, We personally might know why they are banned but I imagine some people don't, it'd be fun to look back on all the trying times the game has been through.

Brionic was legal in the OCG when Brionac was released. I think there was like a week where you could use Hidden Armory to search it, Rescue Cat at 3 to easily get Brionac, and then just bounce Premature Burial continuously to summon a bunch of stuff from the grave. And I'm pretty sure Card of Safe Return was Unlimited at the time, as well.

What about a once per duel effect? Or would it still be too powerful? Or would it be too restrictive?

I'm pretty sure you can still do a similar looping with D.D.R. You make power tool to add D.D.R then banish arma for phoenix blade then revive it then bounce it with zephyros

You can go around of the effect of living fossil by doing xyz summon, imagine what will happen with premature burial

It was a nice card to play with in the older ygo Gameboy games. I made a deck with mist valley and ice barriers just to abuse this card. Summoning mist valley falcon with it was OP.

Yet another good card tarnished by errata agendas..

Not to mention that you could also bring back those 2 monsters, bounce them to your hand, then bounce Premature and Trunade to your hand with something like Spell Reproduction, Magician of Faith, etc. Also, Spell Economics nullifies the LP cost to activate Premature.

Now I wonder what would happen if most old cards received a "once per turn" limit. What kind of decks would come out? On a side note, would it help if, as well as all those restrictions you mentioned, premature burial was made a once per turn spell?

And since hidden armory is in infinity chasers (next set after dark neostorm) they clearly intend on leaving this as is

question. when you're in a duel and one of your monsters/spells/traps is banished. does that mean the card is destroyed? im asking for effects like "when a monster on your field is destroyed" cards. could you use those effects during/after a monster is banished?

I remember Premature Burial as being the card that was at the top when I opened my very first pack and my grandma saw it and made me throw all of them away and I never got into Yu-Gi-Oh after that.

I really think it could honestly come back at 1. If they're really worried they could errata it to say 'you can only activate this card once per turn' but I doubt people are going to go through all the effort to loop this thing. Outside of some rogue FTK strategy that gets hyped up on YT but does nothing irl. All the combos you mentioned in the beginning are irrelevant nowadays. Now I can't wait to get strawman-ed in the inevitable _Commenters Don't Understand Foolish Burial_ lol.

It’s easily searched by cards like hidden armory and able to be bounced and reused while keeping the monster, the end.

Just make it either a hard once per turn/duel or errata it to "when this card leaves the field"

Since premature burial is also a equip card, monsters like Maha vahilo can used to get additional 500 points of attack

i think there will probably be a point in the future where armory call gets to be too good without premature and gets limited like with terraforming and at that point premature may be able to come back to the game at one. Isolde might end up getting banned then too

I was thinking about Power Tool Dragon when he mentioned one of the biggest problem was that Premature Burial was a Equip Spell. Like not Isolde, just searching it with a 1/3 chance with Power Tool Dragon.

Brio, the Ice barrier Also card of safe return was limited during the same time. So much il-blud zombie spam.

I'm not usually in favor of Erratas, but in this case I feel like one would be pretty justified. If you give premature burial either a once per turn or a 'leaves the field' effect, I could see it coming back into the game, maybe even as a 1-of in meta strategies. I don't think it should come back to three - errata or not - but it'd be really cool to see a classic card like Premature brought back into the game, albeit in a manner that makes it a little less ridiculous. Edit: Hidden armory should probably be banned if something like this were to happen, given how big the pool of equip spells is nowadays and the fact that normal summons don't matter as much as they used to. Isolde is probably going to be banned eventually anyway, thanks to the ftks it facilitates, so I'm not sure if it's a factor.

Make it a quick play or continuous spell and make it when it leaves the field

Simple solution: Remove the Equip Part. Make it a normal spell: pay 800lp, summon 1 monster from your GY in attack... that's it, a watered down monster reborn that cannot be looped that easily.

A modern combo would be with melodious divas. Using a three point link, special summon Bloom Prima 3 times literally, a wall that will destroy your opponent's monsters and they take your battle damage

So from this i get that a more broken version of Pot of Greed could be achieved by making it stay on the field after its effect resolves.

Dzeeff i would like to know ur opinion on why ra the winged dragon is the only god card with a special summon restriction My theory is that it is because of soul charge and this new card that wants all three god cards as tributes and then u win the duel

there's infinite loops with premature burial, allowing you to bounce it to hand and summon another monster. 800 lp each time... but way stronger than MReborn.

I figured you'd mention Hidden Armory. And I agree that even without Premature Burial as a legal target, it's a good card, especially since many modern decks can function just fine without a normal summon.

So, this is gonna sound like a dumb question, but Hidden Armory's text doesn't say to shuffle the deck after your search if you get an Equip Spell from the deck. Does that mean you can use it to look at your deck without a shuffle, or is there a ruling that says you still have to shuffle?

@@calvinmcneil9824 That's not really what happens. You have to shuffle, and then they cut. The deck has to be shuffled after each search

instead of changing it from destroy to removed from field , make it a hard once per turn. and limit it to 1, not a full unban

The thing about this burrial, is that not all decks work with it. You're gonna sacrifice your consistency for a chance to special summon 2 to 3 monsters, when most decks already do that without it, and with way better monsters than the ones you gotta run this card with to work. Like, there's hardly any easy ways to add spells back to the hand already for you to sacrifice good cards to return that to the hand.

The more I read this the more I know you don't play competitively. There are way too many card that can bring cards back into the hand. Trust me if you do some research you would know how easy is it to set up deck that allows you to bring specific card from your deck to your hand in basically every match no matter how many times you Shuffle

Emanuele Gazza: no because their his still another abuse, after being special summoned by premature barriel, if book of moon his used or similar cards, that monster does not get destroy, because face-down monster can never be treated as equiped monster, when this card his destroy destroy the equiped monster, for the same reason with Snatch Steel, after you take control of your opponent monster you can book of moon, to keep control permanatly, because it says take control of the equiped monster, must also be an equiped monster to return control

Funnily enough, Premature Burial has the same complete rules nightmare text as one of the most famous reanimation cards in Magic: the Gathering, Animate Dead, where it's a spell that targets a card in the graveyard, puts it on the field, and then attaches to that card, despite that not being how auras/equip spells work normally.

Somehow I missed this one release. Konami didn’t do future proof. Brionac and premature interacted in Japan They hit it in Japan and because of our connected ban lists, it got banned. Konami didn’t quite future proof back then but we got the same banlist so we got things hit that have not release in Japan

B4 watching, Premature is searchable by Hidden Armory and it is returnable by cards like Zephyros.

What if it was errataed to when it leaves the field the monster dies AND give it a hard OPT?

Wow...even something as neutered as living fossil is useful... I suppose it could be abused to get sacrifices for various cards, or to get various specific monsters that are used as ingredients in other cards. I am a very layman player from the old days, but I could see it used to get a monster for a fusion you want.

will dimension fusion and return from a different dimension ever get unbanned

Welcome to Who's Yu-Gi-Oh is it Anyway, where all the cards from the manga are banned or underpowered and the Life Points don't matter. Premature Burial is really interesting, it was searchable recursion, I remember using it with Iron Blacksmith Kotetsu when I was building decks on the cheap

To be honest how to fix premature burial is by adding this text with it "if this card is returned to hand by a card effect while active; Negate the effect, and destroy this card." ..That way you can get rid of equip restrict of premature burial, but not be able to use it again though.

You could use snatch steal to take back your own lava golem from their side of the field maybe? Idk if it’d work or not but that’d be funny. Tribute their monsters take back control of golem and they will gain+lose lp from effects of snatch and golem

i'm just curious why they don't just give it an errata effect like they have been with a lot of old banned cards.

Proposed errata for Premature Burial: Destroy the monster when it leaves the field instead of destroyed. Slap a hard once per turn on its effect from being abused

What about autonomous action unit isnt that kinda like premature burial

Another reason you can't just throw if it leaves the field to its effect is there are too many cards now that have floating effects when sent to the grave now
