Why People Stopped Watching The Walking Dead

Ойын-сауық

No good show can go on forever, and even if a show starts out fresh and interesting, it will lose steam if it stays on the air for too long. The Walking Dead used to be one of the most talked-about shows on TV, but the AMC zombie drama has lost a lot of viewers in recent years.
There are a lot of reasons why people stopped watching, as the show just got too dark for some, while others think it got too caught up in its romantic subplots instead of focusing on the zombies. Let’s take a look at why people stopped watching The Walking Dead.

But that is also a natural assumption over time. They have had plenty of time to accustom themselves to dealing with walkers and each survivor would be a veritable encyclopaedia on dealing with them. As such, there is a need to move on to how humanity rebuilds, not just survives, and our history is a litany of blood and death for sometimes stupid reasons. Makes no sense to be idyllic about it. As for how well they do that, that is not what I’m talking about and is up to the individual to determine.

Carl’s death kinda killed my love for this show. They followed relatively close to the comics. Some character like Carol are still alive in the show but for the most part all of the characters that are dead in the comics are dead in the show. Except Carl...he was supposed to survive. Now he’s gone, and so is Rick... and Michonne🤷‍♂️

Honestly it was too emotionally draining. Each and every single episode basically amounted to the moral equivalent of: "What are you willing to do to survive today? Will you kill more innocent people, will you eat a person's face, will you shit on a baby?" Here's a question that I'd like people to answer: What are you NOT willing to do to survive!? What is so horrible that you just say "Fuck it, I'm checking out! I can't do this anymore! I won't be a monster in order to live!". What level of degradation is too much?

I actually disagree with this, Glenn's death was necessary otherwise the whole story would've been changed, Glenn was my favorite character but I didn't get mad over his death, also I believe that season 7 was the BEST season despite no Glenn. Carl was also an impactful moment, I feel like the show needs to be different from the comics and just because of a few character deaths I don't believe the show is bad. plus, you can't expect everyone to live in a real zombie apocolypse.

I can see here people complaining about their favourite charcters getting killed. but I don't have a problem with that. I just don't like this show because it became repetitive. It is no longer about surviving from walkers and trying to save the world by eliminating walkers. Showrunners just keep introducing new villians again and again. They destroy heroes' home then they get killed. Then heroes build new home and then new villian is introduced like wtf where was the new villian when heroes were fighting the old ones?waiting for his turn? Like if the whisperers were this badass, what were they doing for this long, shouldn't they be affecting everything since season 1.

The problem is not just that the show has become boring, it has become illogical. When you have a group that has been fighting this long it is hard to except a character suddenly becoming stupid or unable to fend off two zombies even though they are well armed. When a show fails to follow its own internal logic people loose interest!

Do people even know what filler is? People throw that word around without even knowing when to use it. Filler is when you can take that specific episode completely out of the story and no plot points or key moments for the season are missed and you won’t be confused going forward. We haven’t had a single real filler episode except the episode “Still” in season 4.

I got bored of it because it's not about killing zombies and trying to stay alive at all costs. It doesn't have me on the edge of my seat anymore like it used to. Now it's about groups going after eachother and and killing one another. The dead are just an added bonus walking around. I compare it to Fast and the Furious. First it was about racing and cars, now we're lucky if we even see a race. Just my opinion.

Miguel Diaz Perhaps you're missing the point of the show. The "Walking Dead" doesn't refer to the zombies - it refers to the living survivors and their conflicts with other survivors. Zombies are a sort of by-product of the story line.

Abraham on the other hand, was only around 2-3 seasons and he was still getting a character arc, it really took me by surprise to see them kill him off, but hey, its TWD, what can ya expect. His last words were badass though. Love him

Yup, Andrew Lincoln left because he understood that Rick's story is pointless without Carl. Chandler Riggs wasn't a great actor by any means, but he was ok and Carl was essential to the story and giving it meaning. Killing off Carl was the final straw that proved Gimple/AMC have no actual point and just aim to make $$$ by running the show for as long as possible. Killing Carl was literaly jumping the shark for this show.

I quit watching after season 5. It got to the point that the walkers were too easy to take out and the heroes no longer feared them. I imagined a scene where the heroes were all sitting around the coffee table chatting, Rick says, " just a moment a walker is at the door, gets up and kills it and then nonchalantly sits back down and sips his coffee. Also it started really showing man's inhumanity to each other and if I want to see that, I'll just tune on the news.

Okay, so I get why people’s interest would wane after years of watching TWD, but I binged the series in a few months and was invested the whole way through. I will defend this show because: Even though season 7/8 had pacing issues, story-wise TWD was solid. I found almost every plot line interesting and yes the focus was less on the zombies after the introduction of Negan, but I personally loved that. It may come down to taste, but I find an interesting antagonist in an apocalyptic world full of zombies, taking advantage of and terrorising the main characters, more interesting than just mainly focusing on zombies who don’t have a conscience, personality or any original motive. So while some later seasons were a bit slow and bleak, I didn’t have an issue with the plot, acting was spot on and characters developed consistently and were always in character, which I appreciate in a show that’s been out for so long. I really missed og characters (rip Glenn & Carl), but their deaths had impact and packed an emotional punch while also keeping the stakes high. The whole giving main characters plot armour wasn’t in TWD too much and in a world with zombies, Governors and Negan it would have been totally unbelievable if nobody of real significance died. I understand the controversy surrounding specifically Carl’s death, and I think his character had a lot of wasted potential and they could have kept him alive,. That would probably be my biggest complaint about the show overall, but having said that, it is still great after that unfortunate moment. If people can watch GOT after Ned and the Red Wedding, they can watch TWD after Carl😅…. I’d say. I think the fact that I could binge it and had no expectations helped but I found season 1-6 and 9/10 of the show amazing, season 7 not so great and season 8 ok. So I urge people who gave up on the show to give it another chance honestly I don’t think I’ve ever been as pleasantly surprised by anything as much as TWD and some of my all time favourite episodes are in late seasons. Don’t watch if you only like light-hearted stuff tho- shit gets brutal. Side note: How amazing of a main character is Rick Grimes? Random fact: Daryl is the 🐐

Rez Well, TWD has the distinction of being quite probably the dullest show (when compared to the potential of its premise) in the history of all television. Personally, I dropped out as early as halfway through Season Fucking Farm, I mean Two. GoT has been faring badly ever since Martin stopped contributing his ideas and the entire series now runs on the very elements it once avoided like a plague, like tensionless action scenes, purehearted heroes and miraculous survivals. That being said, I am legitimately curious to find out how they'll wrap it up. More importantly, I know that the next season will be the final one. No matter how contrived GoT is these days, it still managed to push the story forward, everything points to an approaching climax. TWD on the other hand is just the same plot schtick over and over again and you can realistically keep it going until the cows come home. Even at its worst, GoT is still miles above TWD at its best.

Like many others have said, the show has become so repetitive: escape, find new place to live, conflict with the local bad guy, some characters get kidnapped then rescued, then final battle with bad guy. The show is so nihilistic, with no hope for the group. Favorite characters getting killed off all the time. It's just so depressing. Stopped watching regularly when Glen and Abraham were killed.

I stopped at the same time as well. The way in which Glenn got killed off was repulsive to me. I would also be inclined to agree that the series has gotten repetitive. There is no story development whatsoever. It was interesting when the characters were actually interested in fixing the world, but to have them give up and live their dull lives is just gloomy and miserable to watch.

For me it was just the inconsistency in the writing. There were far too many creative minds involved in the writing process which inevitably led to many glaring inconsistencies with characters and story from one episode to another. The episode that did it for me where I just couldn't take it anymore was the episode that Tyrese died.

season 1-4 were my favourites and I still watch to this day, but I have to agree The Walking Dead has somewhat forgotten their plot. Which would be The walkers/zombies and I do understand that slowly survivors would turn to creating their own groups, rules or governments but its not something I would want to watch, I loved the earlier seasons for a reason which would be the focus on surviving in a world where the deadly walkers exist, now its turned to wars over other groups and the walkers are just in the background. Sometimes I wonder maybe ending the walking dead a couple seasons earlier would of been okay, the new characters are questionable and the plot of walkers or "the walking dead" has definitely slipped away.

That's why any zombie apocalypse that lasts longer than a single day is doomed from the start as a concept. Even the original Night of the Living Dead and the remake had things being brought back under control by morning. Several years into the apocalypse, zombies shouldn't even be around in any large numbers anymore. Each passing day gives the humans more and more advantage over them.

I actually think there is another reason that people aren’t talking about - the location. They have been in the woods for ages. There is no movement. I get that they have run out of fuel but it does make a difference when all of the scenes are in the woods. Remember how epic those city scenes were? You can tell the budget is low and there is just a lack of effort into changing anything up. Same old stuff. Great characters are dead and they’re all just fighting each other in the bush. Boring.

Yeah, agree. The only reason in the beginning to not go near a city was that there were so many zombies, but after several seasons that should not be the case anymore, so I don’t get why they always stay in the woods.

Well they started in Atlanta and have moved to Alexandria, by DC. That’s a lot of movement why they are always in the forest because it’s safer, has more cover and probably a water source. They are probably at the ends of the Appalachian following the Appalachian Trail etc since it’s pretty parallel to their movement. It may all look the same because they are in the same ecosystem.

That's not it. The environment of the show is so much better than it once was. There have been numerous set pieces with multiple factors hidden within each one, giving it special meaning. The whole bridge plot with Rick was basically gonna become a landmark for all their futures. Hilltop is now a literal location, like, an ACTUAL town. Alexandria now has the old colonial America vibe. GY scene with Jesus death was perfect set for horror/drama. We got to move in through the city with S9 x 13, even for a moment. We got the first EVER winter episode. The added horror value is given to the zombies that now can be either a zombie or a hidden person. At the beginning of S10, we had a forest fire brought on by a satellite crashlanding that gave way to tech that enabled them to find a new community. S10 x 8/9 was an entire episode of caves, which has never been done on this show before. S10 x 10, I dare say, has been the greatest episode of TWD EVER. It actually has meaning that isn't taken straight out of being a badass. S10 x 11/12 was a massive war, one of which trump's ANYTHING given in any previous season. On top of everything happening in these past 2 seasons, we have more characters, we have more plotlines, we have WAY more character development with everyone, and each episode is covered with its own theme that compiles into each season that progressively gets better. This show has more meaning than ever before. To say little effort is going into this show anymore is a straightup lie.

Plus I have not seen one single Ferrari or combine harvester mass killing of a zombie hoard. There is so much you could do yet they just let people sit there and talk. Talk is cheap!

TUrned off halfway through Season 7 after watching too many episodes of Negan just revelling in torturing others for torture´s sake. I wanted that guy to die so bad. But I wasn´t prepared to watch any more of this senseless torture to see it through. I was out of there.
