My favorite detail about Gwimbly is the very subtle audio compression they gave his voice as a kind of “vocal fry” that really sells how he’s supposed to be from a PS1 game.

I love that they did no go with the wash out celeb tropes. I expected Him to be a junkie / drunk and stuck up Ahole who keep trying to act like a celeb. But he was somewhat down to earth and felt like a decent person down on his luck. I loved this show.

I was looking for just this comment. I was thinking about the episode and it dawned on me that they didn't fall back on the easy tropes or clichés that usually come with this sorta story. All things considered; Gwimbly seems like an alright dude who actually does just wanna make another game he cares about. They didn't use the easy jokes of having him be a druggie or a drunk. Same goes for the big shooter guy. You think he's gonna be some evil edgelore and....nah, he seems kinda chill too and is happy to be friends with Gwimbly.

Technically Mr Frog is a washed out celeb, but the situation is so absurd its funny. He got cancelled for trying to eat someone, and he sliced off a ladies hands with a check.

It also just feels like a love letter to the animators, communities, and voices of the Internet. You can tell Zach and Michael really do care about and love what they're doing

I think it adds to Gwimbly's likability that he isn't mean or a psycho like mr.frog, he just seems like a nice guy who was treated unfairly yet seems rather upbeat in spite of this. edit: I would totally play a banjo kazooie/crash bandicoot type gwimbly game.

It's the optimistic "I take Venmo" for me. If this happened to me i would probably pay him the 10 dollars, he is just so precious.

It's amazing how many great lines they managed to pack into just 11 minutes. "Ooh ooh ooh!" "Guess I oogily goo!" Gwimbly's line about the fentanyl crisis, the list goes on

When your show is so good the representation you make of a popular game character turns into an actual popular game character.

Gwimbly hits even more different when you realize he's awfully in the same situation as Banjo Kazooie, two characters who received the chance to make a grand comeback(minus Smash Ultimate).

he's relatable honestly, he yearns for a time long passed, I think we all feel that since we live in a modernity ridden dystopia.

I feel like Gwimbly is related to Rayman when his game series is discontinued and has been replaced by Rabbit.

I can't remember the last adult cartoon show that made me laugh as hard as Smiling Friends did. It's my new favorite show and I'm so glad it just got renewed for a second season.

I personally thought Gwimbly's Cameo career was a reference to the homeless tiktoker Daniel Larson. He's become somewhat infamous due to his predatory behavior and schizophrenia. He's become a massive target for online trolling and harassment due to it. He started doing cameos for cash, essentially doing anything people asked of him. He would also start charging exorbitant amounts for them. He'll read out loud chat donations pretty much no matter what they are, he's been tricked plenty of times to shout out some less than savory people. He's also a serial dine n' dasher, basically blacklisted from every restaurant in the Denver Colorado area. His list of crimes and allegations really go on and on... if its the type of thing that interest you, I heavily suggest looking into him. There's more than enough binge worthy content online about him, he's probably one of the most interesting internet personality since Chris Chan.

I really love Gwinbly’s design he gave me very huge Croc vibes like he belongs in that game or Banjo definitely one of the best one off characters

I know it was probably just a slip of the tongue at 2:30 but Zach is still on Oneyplays. Not quite as frequently as he used to be given that he has a show and all but he's still on there tormenting Tomar with hypotheticals about his wife.

It could just be recency, but man, this episode is prob top 3 of the whole series so far.

Gwimbly was definitely more relatable and had more depth. We got to see him happy, sad, angry, thankful, and it's one of the few times I felt the character was actually alive. Guys like Shrimp and Mr Frog were kind of the same thing from beginning to end, but I'm fine without ever seeing them again. I actually do want to see more of Gwimbly and even James they both fall into that special category like Dj Spit did where they bring the show to life.

You ought to have mentioned how he was animated by Hoolopee, who does a bunch of animations in this style! Another instance of Smiling Friends giving youtubers a chance to show off their comedy.

As a gamer, Gwimbly was painfully relatable. Everything you said rings terribly true of the industry, but it's done in such a clever way that it feels like a love letter (and a bit of a 'gotcha' moment) to everyone involved. I enjoy weird characters like this, and Gwimbly's just a likeable guy whom we deserve better than what cards life has dealt him.

It's honestly nice to see Gwimbly get the limelight and love after all these years. I would play his games over and over as a kid, even that cheap gameboy spinoff Gwimbly: God's Final Plea. Hopefully this is a sign that SEGA is willing to bring out a reboot of the iconic game character.

love how season 2 has a ton of amazing independant animators involved. this episode, for example, the 3d chars were all done by Hoolopee, an amazing animator! look up "two pipes"!!

I'm going to be referencing his iconic Gwinbly dance for so long. Honestly so fucking funny, I love him

I think Gwimbly is so beloved because..well, most of us grew up with him? my favourite was Gwimbly feet on fire, where you have to defeat inwading Vampires that kidnapped Gwinbly's family, the faster you can get through the levels the more of his Family members you can save from being turned. so the games ending changes depending on how well you play it. unless you save them all, its always a somewhat sad and memorable ending, because you might end up having to fight the tunred family members, along side the main villain Mr. Ibblix. some people thought the game was too experimental, because it included some very shocking themes, as well as some really heartwrenching endings. So the later games where more whimsical but personally I find feet on fire is still one of the more memorable games of the series. I hope they re-release them someday.

It’s interesting to know that I am old enough to the point where things from my past are being reference as a far 5:05 gone thing that has lost its touch, so unfortunate. But yeah, surprisingly or non-.Surprisingly this character is becoming a fast fan, favorite of many other people, including myself. it’s hard to think of any other character that’s loved so ironically, but yet wholesomely, but at the same time I could also say, who am I kidding. Because the same can go for sonic the character that sparked the fire on the match that is the iconic mascot revolution of the 90s.

Maybe its just me but Gwimbly kinda gave me like Sonic the Hedgehog and Spyro vibes. Like the villain and art direction of the game felt very Spyro while him having the shoes, gloves and a like unique bug design felt very like Sonic. I mean the title of the episode also does have the words Directors cut and DX in it so like,

I feel like it is just a homage to Oney Plays too, Zach's silly antics on with the other guys. It would be funny if they did a Podcast parody since Zach and his friends did Sleepy Cabin for awhile. 😂
