Funnily enough, this seems to further support the episode's theme of letting forgotten characters have their chance to shine. Hell, it's even what Adult Swim is built on in the first place, reusing Hanna Barbera characters from the 60s for their shows, because they had the rights!

I'm surprised that Smiling Friends made homage to the line of video game mascots outside of Mario and Sonic with Gwimbly. With the likes of Gex, Bubsy, Earthworm Jim, Crash Bandicoot, Spyro the Dargon, and many more. Good job, Smiling Friends.

I love the weird and uncanny animation styles they incorporate into this show. It’s like what Flapjack and Courage the Cowardly Dog did, but now it’s coming back to make us uncomfortable in adulthood instead of childhood.

I remember Gwimbly as the first DLC in smash bros, his frame data was insane and has no reason to be this overpowered, but the CEO didn't want his ip for any next games from the franchise and Gwimbly was sadly never to be seen again I'm glad he had a side cameo in Smiling Friends, you deserve it. your games were goated

I like the confirmation that Charlie was once a homunculus and Pim was a tadpole. The weird little stuff like this being a running gag is great.

This episode is such a brilliant takedown of all these game companies that just sit on iconic IPs. Banjo, Rayman, Conker, Sly Cooper, Jak & Daxter, Castlevania, F-Zero, etc. are all franchises that are long overdue for new entries, but their owners refuse to do anything with them. At least Banjo and Castlevania made it into Smash

I remember when Gwimbly was slated to do that crossover with Crash Bandicoot and Spyro in the canceled PS1 title, "Spryo, Crash and Gwimbly in Greatest Heroes All-Out Defense Force", where they had to stop Ripto, Dr. Neo Cortex and Count Gruxia from opening up the demon realm and releasing the darkness upon the world (in the English localization, this would've been changed to your garden variety "take over the world plot"), but the game got canceled after Insane Ground Breaking Games was bought by Nintendo, similar to how Rareware got bought by Microsoft from Nintendo.

Gwimbly struck a nerve with everyone still waiting for their old favorite franchise to get revived

I'm glad Zach and Michael finally decided to make a new season of this show. Especially because of Gwimbly getting raised by the fans, like having him in a cartoon or a video game or even a toy!

I loved the Corn Cavern level music from Gwimbly 3.

What makes Gwimbly a great character is that he is a representation of Video game series like Banjo Kazooie, Mother/Earthbound series, Fzero, Metal Gear, Castlevania, Rayman and more don’t get any new game for years in their respective companies and Video games companies poorly treated them, as a big gamer myself this is so accurate.

I will never forget when i was randomly surfing on a website in 2005 and there was an article about gwimbly 3g for playstation was announced

Used to have the Gwimbly: Theif of Glimbos Gold on the PC. Great Cutsecenes, difficult to speedrun. 90s classic!

I can just hear Zach at the Season 2 pitch meeting. “Hey Micheal! What if we made a character like Graggle Simpson that definitely always existed. And we named him Gwimbley and he went ‘Ooo ooo oooooh!’”

Not alot of people actually know this but Gwimbly 3D was like the 4th game in the series. Thr original was called Gwimble and was kinda a cult classic on the NES. Although the character design changed alot bewteen then and the critically acclaimed Gwimbly 3D so it's a bit of lost knowledge. Also if I remember correctly his little sidekick wasn't a thing until Gwimbly 3D cuz they wanted to have a partner that could relay story to the player. Man I love those games. Wish they'd make a new one!

I used to play gwimbly adventures all the time so many memories of coming home from school in the 90s and collecting all the creamed corn cans and shooting the iconic gwimbly gun.

I love how adult swim cartoons raise awareness and support towards "hated" stuff Hated in context of treatment by the groups, like companies

Y'know, I totally forgot Smiling Friends was even a thing until now, so when I kept seeing this Gwimbly character pop up, I just assumed the internet was collectively doing a bit involving a fake mascot platformer star whose franchise has laid dormant and generally been given the short end of the stick since his glory days in the 1990s, kinda like Croc, Gex etc. I wonder if this will incentivize Adult Swim to make an actual Gwimbly game so he can truly join the mascot comeback club, right alongside Crash, Spyro, Klonoa and several others? I'd be interested in checking it out. And if by some miracle they can somehow secure an official release for the original Sony PlayStation, that's some bonus points for them right there.

He's basically Banjo, and the creators did a great job of treading the line between parody and originality.
