This whole thing is just absolutely bonkers. Not historical, not geopolitical, not even economical. Pure confusion.

About China "Pearl Harboring us" I think that was true until we got access to all those bases in the Philippines. I don't hear many people factoring that new event into the equation... there are so many air bases now within fast reach of Taiwan, it's going to be hard to keep them all down. A few? Definitely... both Japan basis + all of the ones in the Philippines? Very unlikely

Does Noah Smith have any sort of epistemic integrity? Couldn't even consider this some sort of foundationalism - it seems more solipsistic than anything. The idea that Palestine can even have some form of a tourism industry, much less have it curtailed by Hamas, has to be one of the funniest things I've read. Is Noah this naive in regards to the nature of the Israeli occupation? It would be much easier to just admit you have a certain bias towards Israel, instead of this tilting at windmills routine Noah has going.

I wonder how old you two are? How old were you on 911 and since you are so Gung Ho for fights, why arent your bios full of your deployments during the endless wars? Or is that just for actual men?
