Why Pakistan's on the Brink of Collapse...

Why is Pakistan always seemingly on the brink of collapse and why does it even matter if it did? In 2023 Pakistan faced inflation rates of 22% devaluing their money while having to fight off more than 3 times the amount of terrorist attacks than they faced in 2018. Creating a risk where if the country did collapse analysts warned terrorist groups could seize control of their 200 nuclear weapons like some kind of Tom Clancy novel. Destabilization here could have awful consequences not just for the Pakistani people but the entire world. I want to look at the role the Pakistani military has played in both trying to hold their country together and fueling its instability.
Written by: Chris Cappy & Josh Simpson
Edited by: Michael Michaelides
Between 1950 and 1965 both the US and Chinese military were largely responsible for building and training the Pakistan army. By 1954, the U.S Army helped them raise six armored regiments some of which exist to this day. US military Aid to Pakistan would peak in 1962 with 2.3 billion dollars worth of assistance. This is also when Pakistan first stepped up their cooperation with their neighbors in China. Since the 1963 Sino-Pakistan Agreement, the Pakistani military has had close relations with China. This unclassified CIA intelligence memorandum for the Nixon library says (pg7) Since large-scale Chinese military aid began in 1965, Pakistan has received 78 MIG-19 fighters and 12 IL-28 light bombers. Its armored forces have received 160 T--59 medium tanks and a srnall number of T--34s. China has reportedly delivered enough mortars and recoilless rifles to equip two infantry divisions and a number of l22-rnm. howitzers, anti aircraft guns, and trucks.

You're wrong about how increasing nuclear tensions led to the kargil war. Actually Indian PM at that time went to pakistan and hugged nawaz sharif to start an era of peace just before the kargil war. The Kargil area is very very cold so both the countries have agreed to leave the border before the winter season, but that specific year the pakistani army didn't leave the border and made bunkers in the mountain border to hide and what happened when India received the information about what was happening was a brutal war

  • @vzmodeus

I only wish that we had given them their independence from west pakistan in the 50s instead of dragging them to the point that such terrible things happened at the hands of our army. Bangladesh should have been it's own country since day 1 and I only wish that it was done peacefully without war, that's what I would have done as a leader. At the time of partition, East Pakistan should have become it's own country called Bangladesh and therefore 1971 would have never happened.

@@stevenpace892 Well US taught Pakistan how to do proxy war (it was a huge success against the Soviets back in the day) and Pakistan learned it and tried it themselves, can't say I support the move of using Taliban as proxy, it was wrong because it messed up Pakistan in the long run and led to creation of many radical groups such as TTP who endanger Pakistan. It's like when a dad teaches his son how to do something but the son ends up messing it all up. What Pakistani intelligence did was a dangerous game and after the Soviet war ended they should have stopped training and arming militants and using them for their own interests. Because eventually these militants that we trained and armed ended up becoming a thorn in our own side. You probably don't know but India is our mortal enemy so our policy against them was to learn how to do proxy war from the US and use it against India which I am not a fan of. I hate India but using proxy groups and militancy is never a good idea because things like this ends up harming your own nation eventually. These were poor decisions made by Pakistan and they should have never happened. Operation Cyclone was a huge success against the Soviets so many of the top brass in Pakistan probably thought it could work against India too in the Kashmir region which is disputed territory. Again, not a fan of this as we can see that it ended up harming us more than it harmed India. I only wish our leaders would had put that money towards Education instead. Education is something that Pakistan lacks a lot, we have one of the world's most youngest population (young people) but have no basic schooling.

Yes. If only the leaders of USA were not so greedy to control the world. They never realised the fact that you become great by respecting another great power, not by fighting them. They thought they can control India and Russia by helping Pakistan, now it misfired. And it also crippled Afghanistan, all because of their hatred against Russia.

@@Megaminddominatorvery mature world view of yours I see ... You are absolutely right. But India should always maintain ideological difference with USA. USA has this tendency to remind india of *DEMOCRACY, SECULARISM, HUMAN RIGHTS, EQUAL RIGHTS* even though they themselves do not practice it perfectly or at times even worse. The big chalenge for India at the current situation would be to untangle herself from the MODERN DAY TECHNOLOGICAL ENSLAVE-MENT. Unless the day isn't far the India will lose its Soul just like SOUTH KOREA AND JAPAN, who are nothing more than just USA pawns. Their cultural satellite state. Japanese and Korean might just speak their own native tongue but from within they are no less than a Westerner. I, an Indian certainly don't wanna lose my CULTURE AND VALUES to these Western vultures.😊

Something to note is that 'Pakistan' began a genocide against the Bengalis, and the US (Nixon and Kissinger) knew and supplied military aid anyway. India intervened to stop the genocide; Nixon threatened them with a carrier group, the USSR then came to India's defense -which greatly strengthened their relationship. It was another entry in the US tradition of making their own enemies with short term, shallow and unprincipled thinking-actions.

Don't think that we've forgotten Pakistan's betrayal of the US when it came to Bin Laden. I mean those of us that still care about it. Furthermore, my opinion is that the "Partition" of India and the Middle East was not the arbitrary lines quickly drawn on a map by a hurried Senior Official. It was intentional. There was no way the dissolving Empire would leave behind a competing united Indian nation- a communist one at that. Then we get Iraq, Syria etc. A united fascist Middle East was not very desirable or useful to the UK either. No peace in these region since. You can thank the British for it all. In fact they are behind most of last century's left over turmoil we are experiencing today if you look at it closely enough. The US in response says "hold my beer"

As an Indian, this is the REAL truth. British encouraged an irrelevant politician, who upon being overshadowed by better men, decided only course to stay relevant was to profess "loyalty" to the British colonial oppressors for a "Muslim state" to "counter" socialist India from becoming cozy with the Russian bear (without Pakistan, undivided India would have direct land border with USSR). It was British last parting dirty shot after effectively failing to subjugate India anymore after WW2.
