My husband and I have been eating keto/carnivore for 6 months now. We decided to go to lunch for Mexican as we both really miss it. I had steak fajitas about 5oz with peppers and onions, refried beans and Mexican rice, 3 corn tortillas and I had 10 corn chips with salsa. 30 minutes after I finished eating my glucose was 110, 1 hrs after 141 and two hours after back down to 74. Was happy but shocked how fast it came back down.

I am 75 year old female-have been type 2 diabetic for 35 yrs & on insulin for about 30 yrs. Have spent many years not paying any attention to what I eat. Now have prolific diabetic retinopathy. Have had 5 heart stints & 1 valve replacement. I do have a Dexcom CGM. Have been on strict carnivore diet since January. EASIEST THING IVE EVER DONE. Have been off insulin since week 3. Not off blood sugar meds, but reduced by half and doing well. Have lost 35 lbs, and am about where I need to be weight wise. My BG is good enough to stay off insulin, but is not good enough. I am usually over 100 (about 90 to 130). Had lab work done last week. A1C was 5.4, fbs 104, fasting insulin 6.9, cholesterol 344, LDL 241, HDL 64, triglycerides 209. All other labs good. I usually eat OMAD, do 48 hr fast about once weekly, & have 1- 72 hr fast. Have not had problem doing any-no problems with hunger. I feel like I’m doing very well, but bs is still too high and want to do better with autography. I listen to you all the time and have learned so much from you. Recommendations?

Trigs / HDL is 3.26 Shouldn’t be more than 2.0-2.5 and actually for women no more than 1.75 Bikman espouses this too High numbers show IR (back door method for those whose docs won’t order fasting insulin)

Since January? Taper off the rest of the sugar meds. You're afraid to?. 6 months later you should be off all meds by now except maybe if your a cancer patient. From the secondary day you are only carnivore your body is already in ketosis. So tapering of your meds is much more important than any questions you might have. Maybe have more fat so as to prevent other issues. At this point of your fasting from the numbers you give, it's more important that you are no longer heavy because each one of your fasts would had given you significant weight loss. You high cholesterol is a healing mechanism in your brain, your internal organs, your tissues in general and your hormones and the overall health of your metabolism. We need high fat to survive. God bless! You are doing awesome!

Great info! I am 48, and my weight was around 130 lbs until a few years ago, when it is fluctuating 135-140 lbs. I am much happier with my body now than I was 20 years ago believe it or not because I stopped worrying about it. I started intermittent fasting about 6 months ago, and it gives me more energy, and is getting easier to do with time. The best thing we can do is to work hard to be a better version of us, and not comparing ourselves to others.

I get stuck at the beginning! I need a support group.. but I need to be led not lead one! We all need “leaders” who can really help us get over and through the rough spots. I’d pay a subscription fee for a caring and problem solving and accountable group of maybe 15 people. Critical component … like an AA meeting.

Wow~ LOVED the science/slide presentation! Absolutely make sense, as well as explains why the time factor can vary so much., from person to person, inhow long it take sto actually that mitochondria! Most importantly, I fully grasp how important it is that folks DO lose that final 10-20 lbs. Would not have known it could be that close in BMI points & yet have such an increased risk in developing problems down the road. Shows- once again- how critical it is that we commit to the very BEST we can achieve for our bodies & brains, not simply 'better" or "good enough". Thank you so much for sharing this Annette. As always, an hour well spent. May your efforts continue to be blessed, as they continue to bless so many~ in Jesus' name, Amen. ~ Samantha Whitson

This was incredibly helpful! Started keto in Aug 2021 and lost the 30 lbs. I'm happy with that... Unfortunately my goal was 80 lbs. I've been stuck for over a year. Tried carnivore, OMAD, and strict intermittent fasting. Still no movement. Your explanation was so, so helpful for me to understand what's been happening at a cellular level and why nothing I've tried has worked. Fasting past 24 hr will be a challenge for me, but that is what's required. Knowing the science is key!

May 11th. My BMI is 29.8, been learning/doing KETO for 7 weeks. Lost three pounds so far. Did first Mojo meter check this morning after 18 hr fast. Most days eat in 6-8 hr window, daylight only. (I AM paying attention to your podcasts!). Glucose = 84 (about normal) Ketos = .5 Not sure what else to adjust. Cleaned out cupboards on Day 1. I always read labels, research products. Now asking doctor to change thyroid med due to hidden sugars. Use MCT oil and heavy cream in coffee. Only use Allulose sweetner. Carbs intake under 20 for 5 weeks. Drinking LMNT in water to stay hydrated. Only thing I can think of to explain not losing weight is I am not very active so my body has few caloric needs. Hoping as I do more outside gardening I will give my body a need to start using fat for fuel. I am feeling better in the brain, not needing those post meal naps anymore, so I am good with continuing this new lifestyle, regardless of keto reading being low. I am 74. Not much to read about keto in senior citizens who have many fewer hormones than a young person. No apnea-ing, but, my bladder gets me up three times a night. This is not a water issue: the bladders of older people change and simply cannot go very long without emptying. Lots of balls in the air when dealing with an older person!

You could try switching to carnivore for a few weeks and see if that yields any changes for you. Keto didn’t do much for me. I still had cravings and aches and pains. Switched to carnivore and 12lbs came off in a period of two weeks. I sleep so much better and I never desire sugar. Haven’t checked my blood as I’ve only been doing it a month, but I’m fairly certain my A1C will be lower when I do have the test done in 2 months (since it’s a 3 month average).

I've been following keto for 2 weeks. Eating lots of fat. I'm always under 20grams of carbs. Not an ounce of weight lost so far. I'm 57, weight 224 lbs, my BMI is 31. Ketone strips have been light pink to darker pink. Your book said not to start testing blood sugar until later in the continuum, but I did order the glucose/ketone monitor and it's on the way. Should I start measuring now? Is it is just going to take longer for me to start chipping away? Or is it already time to start fasting? Thanks!
