It is very important in writing of higher levels of fictional work. Without its detailed world Luffy's story would get boring quick.

In my opinion, the success of One Piece goes beyond mere technical brilliance (which it has). I've never seen a battle manga, or really ANY comic or cartoon, tackle such huge issues without coming off as heavy handed. One Piece only appears to be a goofy kid fighting manga, but they've dealt with topics like poverty, oppression, disease, war profiteering, colonialism, slavery, institutional racism, human experimentation, etc. etc...Oda has written about so many terrible things in our own world, all while seeming so upbeat and fun it's crazy. It's a serious story about a boy made of rubber and a dude who fights with a sword in his mouth.

+InformationPollution you forgot other things that, unfortunately, are issues in the west, such as homosexuality. there are a lot of travestite/gay characters in one piece. in fact, there is an island full of them. what is so brilliant about it is that it doesnt seem forced by oda as if he's trying to prove a point, but instead all the characters seem to fit seamlessly with the other whacky characters.

+InformationPollution There's a difference between dealing with a topic and showing it. Oppression and war cannot be dealt with in any meaningful manner, when the protagonists are basically unstoppable.

  • @InformationPollution

+Taxtro I see whatyou're sying but i think one piece deserves a bit more credit. The strawhats may be unstoppable but the people around them definitely aren't, and it is usually their stories that are the most poignant in the series. Luffy acts the same and solves all his problems the same way, but in my mind characters like Dr. Hiluluk, Dalton, (young) Sabo, Coby, and lots of others show ways of dealing with problems that do not involve simply kicking asses until it is dolved.

I agree with a lot of the video, but I disagree strongly with the point that in One Piece the characters are "supposed to be unstoppable" and that there is never a sensation that they could ever fail. One Piece is actually filled with its characters failing at one point to learn, overcome and grow from it. Even Luffy himself usually loses his first encounter with the big villain of the arc. Crocodile stabs him through the chest with his hook and dumps him in quicksand, Enel puts a big ball of gold on his arm and throws him overboard, Magellan coats him in poison and leaves him to die, etc. Probably the biggest moment in the series so far (right before the timeskip) should be classified as a failure. However, that is also something that makes One Piece great. It shows its characters hitting rock bottom, being defeated and down but they recover. The heroes in One Piece are not unstoppable and that's what makes them relate-able.

Just as there is never any doubt in any other series, especially shonen. Still One Piece is filled with way more failures and defeats than most of the other ones, so this point about the characters being overpowered when they actually are weaklings during most of the story is strange indeed

As someone who ignored the series for a number of years mainly because I thought it was childish and to long. I was very very mistaken. I am now 400+ chapters deep and cannot wait every day on my commute to work to find out what happens next. If you've ever been weary of picking up the series I highly suggest you do. The story is well paced, the writing is good, the characters are fantastic. I seriously regret not picking it up sooner. My favorite character is Nico Robin btw. = )

+flyingbutthole I completely agree with your comment. A lot of OP viewers started out in that same way, the art style looks weird or the series is way too long. But u get to that point in the series where your like, holy shit, this story isn't just good its straight up AMAZING, and at the same time you are quit enthralled with the focus of each arc that u never really pay attention to how long each arc is, because the story, the journey, the characters, the locations and such keep u invested. A lot of die hard OP fans, including myself started off under that same mindset, im glad you were one of the many fans of the series that eventually saw how great it actually is. Hope u enjoy the rest

I fucking love One Piece. It certainly isn't an Anime that appeals to everybody, but neither is any other media. My huge love for One Piece comes from the world-building, the ideas, the story and the length, as I really like stories that are super long and detailed. I do agree though that the weakest aspect of One Piece is its dialogue, as it is very predictable and repetitive.

I find one piece interesting in how it connects. Every now and then I go back and watch the first couple of seasons of the anime and it becomes obvious the writer knew what he was doing when you see scenes that almost feel throw away back then now have meaning. Another interesting aspect to the anime is the filler. With almost every other show it becomes obvious when they are doing filler. Sometimes it's obvious with one piece, but then other times it flows so naturally you think that it's actually part of the manga. Of particular note to me is the G-8 arc. The story flows so well into and out of this particular filler I actually did think it was part of the source material. It wasn't until a year later that I found out it wasn't. Best filler arc ever.

One huge difference that sets One Piece apart is that their characters can be both funny AND cool the the SAME time. Luffy's powers are goofy and yet badass, and Buggy is funny but cool as well. BLeach can't do that, Naruto can't do it much, and the DBZ characters can't be both at the same type. This just reflects how fleshed out the characters are

I agree. In the naruto if a character is designed as a cool character, they never do funny things, maybe seldom. E.g. Sasuke Uchiha, he's cool af but only in the beginning of the series he did something funny with Naruto. Naruto is too serious stories. One piece is different. Zoro is cool character but has a 100 levels of stupidity. And I love the way Oda change the character costumes. Nami and robin are really fashionable, so they're changing clothes often. But luffy and zoro aren't aware of fashion so they use the same clothes everytime. This little touch makes one piece so lively

I think one of the stronger points of One Piece is that it set up things and foreshadowed them early on. Places, things and events are mentioned in passing that later on show up. There is planning behind it and it shows, unlike Bleach or Naruto who got dragged out passed their original plans (at least Bleach was, I'm just guessing on Naruto but it wouldn't surprise me if it was forced to continue longer than originally planned). It also helps that the power creep is slow and subtle. The crew's strength slowly increases over time. Yeah there are a couple of times where things were kinda BSed but for the most part things make sense. Not to mention the crew is never mentioned as the strongest. They are called strong but we know there are stronger out there. This was especially clear thanks to the Maineford arc.

some really good analysis, but I think you missed one of the most important point. What sets one piece apart from any other anime is the main character, Luffy. Yes, he is dumb, stupid and annoying at times, but he is a Leader, someone whom his companions will blindly follow, and who would go to worlds end for his comrades. The most epic moments for me are not the fights, but when Luffy gives his hat to nami to kick Arlongs' arse, or usopp burns down the CP9 flag, they invoke such strong emotions, that transcends the art form they are drawn in. A leader who inspires, creating a bond with his followers that grows deeper with time. This is what I loved most about Mass effect, and the same principle applies to one piece too. And the soundtrack, that is pretty awesome too.

Exactly. Strawhats feels like a real group, like they are all important. Naruto while good, focuses only on that, Naruto. Which saddens me because I realy like some of the side characters (Gaara, Lee, Tenten)

  • @jordanneedscoffee

    @jordanneedscoffee

    6 жыл бұрын

No, this is wrong. Very wrong, on all counts. Luffy is a classic character but he doesn't make the show, and his crew mates most certainly don't blindly follow him. Ep. 3 Zorro to Luffy "If you get in the way of my dream, I'll kill you". Zorro Post Water 7 Arc "If you let Usopp come back without a genuine apology I'll be the one leaving the crew.". Jimbei to Ace "I won't help Luffy just because you want me to Ace". Oh yeah, Ussop LEFT the crew. No one blindly follows Luffy. Luffy earns their respect. I agree Luffy has his moments that make the show epic, but the most epic moments I remember typically involve the crew as a whole, like Sogeking shooting the flag, or a different character besides Luffy, like Zorro at the end of Thriller Bark. The show had a full 5 episodes where Luffy had a total of 3 minutes of screen time in Marineford and they were great episodes! What makes the show is the world itself. Oda's world and character building skills are just unparalleled.

Ahmed Al I've seen a little over 100 anime but I can't say that One Piece even scratches the ones on top of my list. It's not a bad show, it's just something that I watch when I haven't got anything else better to occupy my attention. I find that it's very easy to burn out on because of all the backtracking it does and the way the characters emotions/motives change over certain plot elements. I'd probably only give it maybe a 7 or an 8 out of 10. Also HxH didn't get cancelled, the mangaka of it is famous for taking unexpected and long hiatuses, right now there would probably only be enough story from the manga to create a few more episodes if you follow the 2011 series. The show isn't over per se but I wouldn't expect to see a follow up from the 2011 series for at least 5 years give or take a few.

One Piece, i dunno what it is about it, but it sure makes it feel like it stands out from Bleach or Naruto. It just feels like a completely different tier of quallity. The only other manga that has the potential to feel like it is hunter x hunter, but i doubt it can reach it cause Togashi.

there is something so pure and elemental about the characters. there is something he does with nami and robin; they're deceptive people, with reasons to distrust and goals of their own, but luffy and crew break through their metal exteriors and the friendship that thus forms is all the stronger for it. i have not seen many things as touching as luffy putting his hat on nami's head or robin screaming out that she wants to live.

Dreamof BlueYoung "seperated from his brother"? What do you mean by that? Ed sacrificed his alchemy and got Al's body back. There was no kind of "separation" that took place at all. And enemies? What enemies? The homunculi are dead, Kimblee is dead, Father is banished into the Portal of Truth, Scar is reformed and the warmongering in Amestris is finally over. No one actually wants to harm these two guys. Brotherhood has Ed finally get together with Winry, has Mustang avenge Hughes and become Führer with Hawkeye by his side, Scar rebuilding the Ishvalan culture, Jean Havok regains use of his legs, Tim Marcoh is redeemed, Izumi Curtis is healed, Hohenheim can finally peacefully rejoin Trisha and his Xerxian countrymen in death after _decades_ of guilt and suffering, Ling becomes emperor and finally brings peace to the clans of Xing, the human chimeras are searching for a way to regain their bodies and the Elrics are continuing their research in alchemy by travelling to different cultures. I see not a single "depressing" aspect in this ending.

When I was younger, for the longest time I could not stand the 4 "big" Anime/Manga, being Bleach, Nartuo, One piece, and DBZ. Since my younger days of out right hating, I have restarted all of these Anime (at the beginning of the year), in order to give them all another chance under a more mature nature, (as I am now older). The only one out of the 4, I'm still watching to this day, is One Piece. One Piece is brilliant, I'm on episode 110, right in the Alabasta arc. One Piece is a great show, and I'm glad I've got so much more to watch!

Naruto is pretty good. The filler can be really bad though, and sometimes they forget what the characters can and can't do; sometimes you see Lee using chakra for example. I can only stand the Dragon Ball Z Abridged series by Team Four Star. One piece has in total about 10 shitty episodes and two slow story arcs over the almost 700 episodes now. There is also some very bad voice acting. Unfortunately, the two worst voice acted characters (Coby and the dog) are right at the beginning. Coby is not annoying when he grows up in the show (in the background). Also, one of the slow story arcs is the one getting Usopp (the guy with the long nose). I recommend that you skip over the boss battle as it was a bit dragonball z-esk in that story arc...

It just...has an earnest genuineness to it that no other shopw I've seen has. its so different and yet so familair to other shows I've seen, and every character is wonderful, even the more annoying characters are interesting and earnest. nothing feels forced or contrived, it all feels natural, and the world of one peice itself is the msot developed, most intricate and most interesting setting I've ever seen. (Sky Islands, Water 7, Impel Down, Punk Hazard) I love one peice and I will be sad when it ends, but I will be happy knowing I got to experience such a wonderful, amazing, beautiful story.

Usopp's development in that arc was amazing, turning him from a character I didn't care about to my favourite character in the show and Kuro remains one of my top ten villains in the series. it wasn't suepr amazing or had the ebst fights, but its still a good arc regardless I USED to like naruto and that's all I'll say

It's similar on two levels: The world building and the story telling. World Building: The OP universe is immensely rich, everything is extremely detailed from abilities like devil fruit powers to objects like log pose. The world building also includes History. A lot happened before Luffy started his journey, the history of this world is full of myths and legends comparable to those of ‘The Iliad and ‘The Odyssey’. Instead of gods, we have pirates that are as emblematic and powerful than those of Homeric poems. In his journey, Luffy will have to surpasses those legends (his mentors and his enemies) to mark the history of his world. Story Telling: It is not a coincidence that One Piece is similar to Homeric stories. It actually follows the same narrative structure: The Monomyth, a theory of Joseph Campbell advanced in his book “the hero with a thousand faces” After analyzing the narrative scheme of various ancient and modern stories. Campbell realized that these heroic tales all shared a common template that involved a hero who goes on an adventure, and in a decisive crisis wins a victory, he then comes home changed or transformed by his adventure. This narrative structure, is used in Homer’s ‘Odysesy’ and in One Piece :) I recommend you reading about the monomyth for more details!

All the while thinking about the shear amount of detail and overshadowing that goes into this continuos series. There are just so many layers to the OP world, many of which has only been teased. Naturally this keeps the reader guessing and wanting/yearning to learn more... I guess you could call it a guilty pleasure of mine lol

actually, I kind of disagree with the point about the ending villain of a story arc.. There are really weak ones, true, but things like the Arlong Park still showed just how intense a climax could get and the dialogue obviously carried that motif. Likewise, the revered Water 7 arc. Skypiea is again no small contender in this, with Enel being one of the better main villains of the series. The thing I see in most climaxes of a story, or big time confrontation with the big villains, is like the small stories and backstories of characters we get. Some are really good, some are good, some are dull and some are absolutely fucking amazing... Backstories too can deliver some really weak dialogue, they're no exception to that at all.

Oda is always finding ways to hate and love the villains at the same time. The backstory's, buildup, power, and how important the villains are later on in the story really make onepiece amazing.

I despise shounen. It's long, has boring characters, and has tons of boring combat. I tried really hard to get into the anime and gave up around episode 40. A year later I watched a random episode on a whim, to see how nothing had changed, and oh my god. Everyone was different, and so many new characters. With no investment, it was one of the funnest things I had seen. Tried reading the manga, and the faster pacing fixed the boring slow battles and made them awesome. With about 800 chapters, there was no way I was gonna catch up, which meant I could enjoy the series for a while. Accidentally caught up 2 months later.

I think another thing that helps One Piece is the careful application of back story to certain characters and certain psychological themes. Unlike many other popular manga/anime, the Straw Hat Crew, while having some darker back stories, doesn't let that become the forefront of the main plot dynamic. There are times where the darker story is expanded, but that's only for a dedicated plot on a particular island. Before the plot point comes and after it's dealt with, there's never over-elaborated pre- or post segments that make the sub-plot never really end. While One Piece I feel has a bit of a length problem when it comes to staying on one particular island, when a particular plot thread ends, it ends completely, keeping a light-hearted feeling for the Straw Hats. Even Luffy's arguably most pivotal character point, the climax of the Marineford battle, the issues are properly addressed and not too much time is dealt on Luffy's substantial loss. Instead, it's simply said and the character grows, and that's maybe another reason that the characters feel so rightfully invincible is their willpower to take action and leave the psychological analysis to someone else.

The existence of One Piece is by itself incredible. Oda is so brilliant not just because he can make the quality of OP good for so many chapters, but because he also had this brilliant idea of exploring the technical limitations of Manga art to make stretched effects look cool, and not turn it into one of these cringeworthy scenes of Mr.Fantastic in these Fantastic Four movies, the way he recycles all elements that were previously given and how every island the Strawhat crew visited was somehow a benefit for the character development of themselves. Oda is a genius.

Excessively long narratives are a pet peeve of mine, and I've staved off starting several ominously large tales because of it. I hate leaving a story unfinished, and if I'm incredibly bored halfway through an epic and I know that I still have to chew through several more very long arcs, then I'm less inclined to try finishing it. Nevertheless, I've watched several random episodes of One Piece out-of-order, and I'm not sure when they fall into the timeline of the story, but I did find them to be entertaining isolated stories.

I reccomen a few alter arcs of one piece: Alabasta is an epic arc involving the series' best villain, a well developed desert kingdom and a rising civil war between a group of rebels and the royal kingdom, with our heroes caught in the middle while also being chased by essentially the police. Skypeia is an amazing arc taking place in one of the msot unique locations of the series, featuring a badass, powerful villain who makes the msot memetic facial expression in the show, and is just overall VERY well done (not to mention the msot tragic flashback....) Water 7 is THE legenary arc that everyone says is the best. Well, Water 7 and its second half Enies Lobby, which ahs character development, furhter development of the setting voerall and the World Government, a bunch of unique and amazing battles that utilized every character at one point or another and WASN'T just a fest of battles featuring the main hero beating all comers, as well as the loss of a close friend and comrade T^T

I'd argue that the further the Straw Hats get on their journey the harder it seems for them to achieve their dreams. Zoro fought against Mihawk very early on in the series only to lose. Luffy barely wins against most of his opponents. He is always left damaged and in need of a long recovery. The Straw Hats almost didn't make it after Thriller Bark and were utterly defeated in Sabaody Archipelago. They seem to stand a better chance in the New World but there's still a huge power gap between Luffy and the Yonko. But I think this is what makes One Piece great. The Straw Hats aren't the strongest forces in the world so they have a lot to overcome and that's what keeps things interesting.

The way each island works as its own story with its own theme, characters, culture, etc. is especially helpful for a long series like this because it allows new readers to jump in easier. Furthermore, it keeps things fresh for older readers. Also Oda carefully constructed a world tailor-made for a grand adventure of this scale. Despite the many, many, many arcs, it never feels like the Straw Hats are just fucking around aimlessly because with each island they continue to physically get closer and closer to their goal. There are also tons of slowly evolving subplots in the background such as the poneglyphs, Void Century, Will of the D., Sanji's eyebrows, etc. that also keep older readers invested.

I love One Piece and despite other people's criticism, it's fucking amazing. I don't know why but I can't stop watching. I grew up with this anime and sure I'll admit, it was pretty dead up until Franky's story but afterwards, it just took off for me. This show makes me laugh, cry, smile, and want to throw things but all in all its good. I wish people would just give it a chance and stick it out. I will agree that some stories are stretched a bit much and the art isn't that great, and the fillers can be a pain but no anime is perfect. I guess what pulls me into one piece is the varying issues such as racism, colonialism, human trafficking, family ties, etc. If you only gloss over it, you'll miss the messages but if you actually pay attention to it, it's pretty informing. Also, I would love anime suggestions. I'll watch almost anything :-)

I definitely agree with you that One Piece is amazing, it is my favourite Shonen atm and the only one that my friends and I are still reading. Unfortunately we all started with One Piece, Bleach and Naruto and I was the only one that was able to bear Naruto to the end or Bleach past the Fullbring arc. What I completely disagree with you though is the part where you say the characters are unstoppable. As a matter of fact that, that is one of the reasons I really love this anime, the main characters don't just scale up to stupid levels whenever necessary, for example: 1) A fact that a lot of people forget, Luffy lost first encounter with Buggy and was only saved by the intervention of his father. 2) Zorro lost his first encounter with Mihawk very badly and was spared on a whim. 3) When the crew fights Aokiji, they are almost all killed and would have been, as far as we the readers know, if not for his connection to Robin. 4) Luffy straight up fails to save his brother and has to see him die before his very eyes. 5) The entire crew got the crap kicked out of them by Kuma, which Oda masterfully transitions into a time skip. 6) Lastly, despite the fact that they have never actually fought Kizaru the fact that he kicked the crap out of a team of all captains, whose combined bounty eclipsed that of the crew, it was made very clear what would most likely happen if they did. These failures, and just the presence of others that outclass the main characters is far more than most Shonen which is why I love One Piece so much.

  • @1Kapuchu100
    @1Kapuchu1009 жыл бұрын

In regards to the whole "supposed to feel unstoppable" thing, I'll have to disagree. You say that they are never in danger of failing, and it's portrayed that they are supposed to succeed. While we know, from a meta perspective, that they are most likely to win just about any battle they go into (because, hey, a story with dead protagonists isn't all that fun... unless it was made by Tim Burton and they're all dead to begin with... Or Brook), there are still plenty of moments where you fear that they will fail because they're just at the brink of death. When Buggy is standing with his sword and is about to cut Luffy's head off. War of The Best (can't count how may times Luffy almost died), Sabaody Archipelago (Against Kuma), and so on. Yes, it does follow the common Shounen Combat Manga trope that the protagonist fighters are almost losing until they pull off some epic stunt and completely turns the figt around, they still are in danger of losing quite often even if we always tell ourselves that "Of course Luffy is gonna be Pirate King!"

Digibro In my opinion that was foreshadowing (Oda's signature touch). By having Luffy being unscratched by the lightning, and Sanji asking Zoro if he believes in God, he's refering to Skipea, where we get to meet "God" and we're showed that Luffy is the only one able to beat him because he's rubber and thus an insulator.

Talking about each crew member. I think it's great how each member is almost indebted to another and how it's not always Luffy they are indebted to (although most times is) for example Brook. Brook is overall indebted to Zoro because Zoro was the one to release his shadow. Luffy is also generally indebted to everyone on the crew because without them his dream of becoming the pirate king is just that much further away. They all have very specific roles and they all fit those roles very well.

Part of the genius of One Piece comes from not just the elements that are meant to drive the plot forward but the unusual ways in which those plot elements continue to come back in different ways. Oda has an incredible degree of intentionality in his world building, and it makes it very easy to just get sucked into each narrative.

Just like Dragon Ball Z's DUB, the new DUB that was recently made by FUNimation is even better than the original and fits the characters well. As you said the length of the series is ridiculously long but I decided to skip all the fillers which 13% of the series which saves me the trouble. Unlike what most people here say I feel One Piece is superior to Dragon Ball. Dragon ball was tedious and repetitive. I actually feel the most creative part of the series was GT....and that's one of the most hated parts of the series.

The thing that makes One piece different from other long running mangas is that the story does not focus on a Character like most others do for example Naruto at first Naruto was good since the story was really interesting especially the Chuunin exams but after a while it started to focus more on the main character leaving all the other interesting characters out of the story and also the story was kind of one dimensional focusing on the Akatsuki. This also happens in Dragon ball where the story starts to focus more on Goku. Also in Bleach with Ichigo. Now One piece is not about a single character its not about one main character just gaining power and defeating enemies. The main characters working together and developing their bond as a crew is what makes the story work. The way the story develops is also different theres still alot of things in the story that hasnt been revealed and each island they go to find something out which leads to a bigger story lol For example like that samurai kid Momonosuke who is that kid and why does everyone want to capture him? And why were he and his father looking for Kaido? these and other mysteries keep the story interesting.

I love that we meet all the characters as Luffy does. Sometimes we are put into a longstanding relationship, like family or friends, and the characters more or less already decided what they think of each other and there is little room for development in their characters. Like Natsu and Gray's relationship, I love it but little to nothing has changed from the first arc to the last. We see characters in One Piece go from strangers to fighting alongside each other in a way that is believable and relatable.

You try to expect what the guy thinks when decision is coming, but you are left surprised with a simple answer, yet you know he's absolutely right and it brings the best results later. Oda shows for sure that considering circumstances, you gotta go way your mind and desire goes and stand up to it. His created character pictures it in a really good and understandable way.

Hello Digibro, I'm a long standing fan of one piece and have kept up with it from the beginning. One thing I'd like to add to your point is that each ark has it's own intro and and ending music unique to that ark. The music is also largely exciting, clear audio, well composed and often highly energizing or even captivating to listen to. At times there are also slower and deeper song intro/ outros that convey the emotion of a saga with a more serious or somber theme. This is another aspect of the whole series that I love very much and I think it is one thing that would contribute to its success/ popularity.

One Piece is famous for being a show that has very little content per episode. especally nowadays. a One Piece manga chapter WILL be an entire episode. thats how the series can get away with being so continuously long running with as little actual filler it has and it also results in alot of episodes being simalar to each other sometimes. because of this i feel as though the Punk Hazard arc was a snooze fest in the anime whereas dressrosa imo one of the best to date.

There are so many great things this series does, even the smallest moments in OP has been geniusly crafted and well-thought out. This may very well be the greatest epic ever created by the time it finishes, I really do believe it XD

I tried to get into One Piece, but it just seems so silly.. after reading some of the comments, and this video? I've opened my mind more, and I will venture into watching it from the beginning again.. this video & the comments really helped a lot. Thanks!

One piece has endless characters that you can enjoy reading about, though sometimes an arc climax might look similar to the previous one in terms of structure, the unique island and characters along with the overall story that Oda creates clearly outweighs the flaws it has. The last two arcs (zou, and whole cake island) have completely different vibes compared to the previous ones. This amazing series keeps on getting better and better. I would love if the anime commit more to produce a better adaptation. #One Piece Greatness

What I like about OP is that every arc seems to be part of or a setup to much bigger story. The story is really deep. There is so much mystery and if you read carefully you can find hints.

There is this joke my friend and i have that the ending of one piece is this: "Guys we finally found the treasure, look all we have to do is open this door and it's riches beyond our wildest imagination." "Ok we need everyone to pull the lever at once. 3,2,1, GO!" *door opens* "What, it's just this one chest... maybe it's the most valuable item in history and it will help rule the world." *Opens the chest* "It's... It's just a note... 'To whom it may concern, Congratulations, you found it. The most sought after treasure in the world. To get here, you and your allies must have been through countless amounts of battles and hardship. And so your treasure. The power of friendship you grew along with these amazing allies that you all find so dear. And that is the greatest treasure of all.' Blackbeard." all of them at once: ...FFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU- *Entire fanbase screams in anger*: "THIS IS WORSE THAN THE HIMYM ENDING WHAT THE FUCKKKKKKKKKK!"

At least it's confirmed it's not that, and the 'one piece' is actually tangible/real in Oda's recent interview.

Nope. I would bet it's something related to the Void Century. One Piece (the series) is about freedom and friendship, so there's no need to over emphasize that by turning the treasure into a cliché like that.

People who's artwhores or manga elitists won't understand. It's about the storylines, the character development etc... The story of a young boy gathering friends to become the Pirate King and developing bonds between his friends/crew and on the way fighting epic battles. Some One Piece anime fillers are also great plus it just shows the humor and epicness of the OP characters. Everything doesn't have to be pedal to the metal full focus on the main storyline. G8 Arc is a great example.

+Robin MX about the artwhores...I think that one piece (or eichiiro oda at that) is the most skilled artist in the shonen world regarding skill (not style), he know how to make characters believable yet exaggerating and his anatomical skills are one of the best I've seen in manga/anime (yes, it IS exaggerated, but it still is believable, unlike other artists i've seen and oda is the only manga artist i look up to now, because his art style and skill is so good! dunno why everyone hates this artstyle :/ while masashi kshimotos artstyle is great too and he has some serious skills, I find his character designs and style boring because its so realistic :/ ) sorry for the long-ass post xD

+Melissa .Eder Yeah Eichiro Oda is skilled but there's still a lot of One Piece (anime) haters because of the animation. That's primarily what i was focusing on lol. But overall both the manga and anime are equally good :P

Robin MX ah okay :) well, I havent watched the recent episodes since I'm rewatching op for the 5th or 6th time now lol and I'm still at the thriller bark arc :( but I still dont understand why people hate the anime? Its animation is better than narutos and I dont watch fillers so naruto is a no for me at the moment :/ besides, anime is extremely expensive to make and when nobody buys the dvds no wonder they cut the quality :/

The One Piece world feel's alive. You are always reminded every now and then about other characters (good or bad) and what they are doing. On top of that you are made aware of the global power structure. And finally it has an overarching story which helps ensure that every other story along the way is a step towards the final goal and not a tangent.
