I also have a DW6600 from the early 90s, a gift from my Mom who has since passed. I wore that watch to Hell and back. I found it in a drawer a year ago, still beat to crap and still working. I put a new bezel and band on it and it looks new. I did replace the battery about 15 years ago. Love that watch and wear it a few days a month. Thanks Mom, love you!

OK, I almost didn't comment on this, because in my opinion the DW6600 is without a doubt the best Casio EVER. Parts availability: yes. Durabiiity: yes. replacable part availability,: yes. Waterproof down to 200', repeatably, for sure: yes.Simplicity, and ease of reading (large numerals), without revolving circles and such, yes. And the backlight; you mentioned how it was over bright, but what you didn't mention is that it serves as an incredible assist when navigation an area without illumination. It's bright enough to read a newspaper, or check to find something in a cabinet, etc. I really thought about posting this for sometime because I don't want the availabilty to parts to become difficult, but I have enough of them to last me the rest of my life, I suspect. Plus, the case and band is is cheap and the same for two other models which for some reason are more popular, and the movement is virtually indescructable for these babies. Oh yea, and although rather thick, it's no where as massive as some of the later models. Just saying, mate.

Super legible in the positive display versions, light button where it should be, vibration option, world time is easy to use, and did I mention how legible it is? For under $75 almost everywhere, would be great to see on the channel.

Crazy about the battery life...In 1990, I bought some Mexican AA batteries (off 14th Street in NYC) and they lasted in my Walkman for an entire semester of college. It became a mystical experience for my friends and I, and of course, when I went back to that store, they didn't have that brand of batteries again.

DW-5600 and DW-6900 series G-shocks are still some of the biggest sellers, in 2020. Just as simple as they've always been, but cheaper. And plenty of them have solar and atomic sync as well. LCD screens have also improved over the years. Can't go wrong with the GW-M5610 / GW-B5600.

In the sun there is plenty of light, so the black around the lighter color provides good contrast. When indoors, the light level is lower, so the contrast lessens, and since there is less light being reflected into your eyes overall, it is harder to make out crisp lines. Some people may think that the negative display is harder to make out in the sun due to the bright light possibly white washing everything. Never owned a negative display, so this is all speculation

Good and informative. I have a G-shock G-7301, solar powered and based on the numbers on the back, seems to be dated from April 2005. I've only had to change the strap (which was not so easy, resin and rubber isn't fun to work with). Still runs like a top. It does have a large amount of functions, but it is a great "have". Keep 'em coming.

I started wearing g-shocks around 2003 when I worked at the airport. Beat the snot out of them, exposures to all kinds of equipment. Always bought whichever one Walmart had for $50, always petered out after about 5 years, except my last one that had chemicals spilled on it and had to be retired. That one still runs but it’s never worn.

Funny you should bring this up. I just got a gw-200 frogman over the newer versions and I am enjoying it so much. It doesn't have any of the triple sensor features, or the multi band 6 or any of that, but it was the last model made of titanium and it's still solar powered and that's good enough for me. This model was made in the 2000's and every time I wear it it reminds me of being a teenager in that time and it's already got a super nostalgic feeling for me.

Since it syncs with the atomic clock, it is always spot on. It is also size appropriate for my skinny wrists. I love having the auto backlight that can be set to light up every time I tilt my wrist If the ambient light is low. Tough solar power is awesome, as the watch is constantly charged and ready. In other words.... It just works!

Only thing I ever had to replace was the strap that got torn in a fight. Then, after about 15 years, I was just swimming in a lake, looked down and it had died and had water under the face. I actually felt sick. We had gone through so much together. I replaced it with a 5600 atomic/solar, which is still running strong to this day. They are great for traveling too. Realistically, they're probably the best tool watches every designed if you can see the beauty in their ugliness. Thank you for the video.

I have a GW-500A that still works to this day and has never failed me. how I got my watch is crazy. I was on my 3rd Deployment to IRAQ and it was for the 15th month deployment (we got extended by 3 months to make 15 months) and my unit was attached to II MEF in the Anbar province. There was a mobile PX on our base so on payday I would periodically check the aisle for something I wanted. on my birthday, I walked into the PX and saw the watch and said why not since I needed a watch anyway. I was 30 years old when I got that watch. Fast forward to today 16AUG23, The watch is in excellent condition. (have to replace band since it finally broke) the screen has no scratches and the body has no scratches. I literally took care of my watch. It has alot of sentimental value since the watch as been with me through two straight deployments and 7 additional years before I retired in 2014. nothing was replaced and nothing needed replacing. I dont know how valuable a watch can be but the GW-500A was the predecessor for the GW-M500A. the watch has been with me 16 years and still works...

I'm sticking with my GW-8000 (solar, radio piloted) bought on 2010. I looked on the actual lineup and yup, no need to buy another one. The energy gauge never got down (I'm using the power saving feature)

Hey jory! Great vids man! I wanted a kind of advice from you. I was looking to buy a watch and my budget is around 130 dollars. I thought of getting something like the seiko 5. But recently i got really interested in g shocks because of you. And i really like the mudmaster (the cheaper variant with only tough solar) but it is a bit over my budget although i can go up to there if i want. I wanted to ask you if you would recommend me getting a mudmaster or something like seiko 5 or orient bambino?

I own more than a few casio/ G-Shocks and just found one I had put in a box of mementos years ago. Replaced the dead battery and now absolutely enjoy this vintage G-SHOCK 2278 G-2210 (not a scratch on it). I didn't realize at the time one of the features this watch was capable of was inputing and storing 25 name and phone numbers. As well as a functional countdown event day counter. Needless to say this classic is now proudly displayed.

I guess you'll enjoy the GD-350, every reason you mentionned about the 6600 is present in the 350 : Cool looking (probably my favourite looking g shock), Bright backlight, great legibility (the negative display is the best in any g shock, it is more legibile than some g shocks with positive displays), and powered by a CR2032, means if you use it only for time and backlight from time to time, you're looking for a 15+ years battery life

My old tough solar G Shock is my first choice for suicide missions like mowing the lawn or just work driving. She was used, cheap but now indispensable. She rules my right wrist when I go in harm's way. Something NH36 or ETA 2824 on my left wrist: balance achieved. New G Shock: look too fancy to live up to its Casio legacy.

It won’t last as long as a G-Shock. I’ve read about all kinds of defects on those Instinct watches, that’s what kept me from picking one up. Just picked up an old GW-6900 for 40€. Looks well used but functionally it is perfect. I’ve just put it in an industrial washing machine to clean it. It came out in perfect working order. I wouldn’t try that with the Garmin tbh.

I wore my DW6600 to the gym (before closing). I wear it now when walking through the neighborhood. It's so comfortable, I often times wear it all day until bedtime, though I have other newer watches I could wear. I don't remember how long I've had the watch but I replaced the battery in February. I'm on my second resin strap. The watch still looks "cool". BTW: I reside in "The City with a Mission" 👍.

The FIRST EVER G-Shock that a friend's friend demonstrated (by literally throwing it hard towards the ceiling) to me was this model, in 1994. So this HAD TO BE in my collection. Just minutes ago I bought this and I am super excited waiting for it to arrive! And what's more, I read the 6900 bezel fits this like a charm, and I have a few 6900 colorways (white, blue/red, all black), so I am definitely going to experiment!

I own the same model you are having on your wrist. It accompanied me though my last years of school in the early nineties. Unfortunately a few years ago the outer resin case completely disintegrated. All pieces of it that I could find I glued back on to the watch itself, but the case is incomplete now. And of course it is out of power for almost 2 decades. ;)

Being an 80's kid, I'm just more attracted to the "basic" G's that I grew up with... 5600's/6900's and such. The new ones are cool and all for the next generation, but I like my retro ones.
