If you own a Fiat, Chrysler, Jeep Renegade/Compass, Jaguar, Mini, Smart car, Range and Rover please don’t waste Scotty’s time by asking a question about your car, just drive the damn thing to the ground because it’s a piece of junk worth nothing because you already made a bad decision by buying it.

Had a 1989 Volvo 740 GL that ran reliably for nearly 300,000 miles, an ‘88 Jetta GL 5MT that ran for nearly 200,000 miles, a 2000 Audi A6 2.8 Quattro that I sold at 18 years old and is still being daily driven by a friend, a 2003 MINI Cooper S that’s been a weekend joy for 18 years, a 2012 Chevrolet Malibu LTZ V6 that was a phenomenal road tripping car, a 2013 MB C300 4Matic Luxury that got me through some rough conditions and great weekend trips without a single hiccup, and now a 2017 Jaguar XE 20d Prestige that’s been one of the most efficient cars I’ve ever owned. They’ve all been as much of a pleasure to own and drive as my 2010 Toyota Tacoma SR5 TRD Off-road. If you know how to maintain a car and you’re selective about what you’re buying, you can enjoy some pretty questionable cars without significant issues!

@@barondystopia I don't really subscribe to the "all Range Rovers are unreliable" (No, I don't own one, not my kind of car if I'm honest). I think they probably get a similar number of issues, and small niggles that any car would - People get sad about that because they think that due to spending more on it, it's going to be flawless - Especially when it comes to brand new models any car will have issues that weren't expected. That first point, is the same with most things both expensive and cheap - Look at Microsoft and their Xbox 360 defects they had as an example. Brand new car models are a big unknown and issues will be improved over times as they come to light. The main thing that I think makes people think they're ALL unreliable is that people eventually buy a £40K-£90K car for £10K....By the time that person has bought the car for so little, it's probably already been through numerous owners that neglected it and just plain couldn't afford to repair small issues that have gotten bigger over time. Once you get to that sort of purchase price some people are even neglecting servicing. With any car, most of us here will know you should fix problems ASAP, but average people don't. I think the same problem happens here where people buy the car for £10K and don't realise that when things break (as they will on all cars) the £70K car comes with the repair costs of a £70K car, not a £10K car. Not saying they are super reliable, just not as bad as people make out

@@DanielHarrisCodes True. You have to take everything with a grain of salt. Obviously, there have to be some redeeming factors for them. People aren't going to buy a vehicle that's known for being trash. Any vehicle can fall by the wayside if you don't maintain it. But it seems some are more prone to specific defects than others. I don't get people and their thought processes, honestly.

@C Liao It's not a "better car" it simply rides smoother. They're both just as reliable. It just comes down to ride preference. Its give and take when it comes to these two vehicles. Camry-- more expensive Corolla-- less expensive Camry-- smoother ride Corolla-- more economical Camry-- more room inside(unless you're going to haul a big family around daily, it's pointless) Corolla-- less room yet easier to maneuver around(easier to drive) So one is not better than the other. It depends on what the customer values more.

I got to be honest with you. I initially half listened to a Scotty Kilmer video. About 2/3 way through he literally said verbatim something that my mechanic has said for years and not only were the words the same their voices are close. I haven't missed a video from Scotty since and I've literally only heard one that's right one thing that he and my mechanic disagreed on. It's been long enough though I can't even remember what it was now.

I also have a 2014 Corolla S with the normal 1.8L and a 6-speed manual. It has a little less jam than the 2010, but still fun to drive, far better fuel economy, and even more reliable. Want fun? Recently rented a few Camrys and Corollas. I wound up buying a 2015 Corolla S Plus in perfect condition with low miles. The Camry is too big for what I need and the fuel milage on the Corolla is amazing. The Camrys do drive very nice though. My other car is a 2010 Camaro SS with 500rwhp, so I was looking for something on the opposite end of the spectrum. @@healthy6312

My 98 Corolla LE vs. my 99 Camry XLE.... Scotty speaks words of wisdom on this. Both of these cars are indestructible, however, I will say this; First, both have well balanced tires, are well aligned and have newer high-end struts and springs. Both of my Toyotas were made in Canada at the same plant a year apart but they feel and ride like two totally different manufacturers made them. The Crayolla (Corolla) has always had a harsh ride, steering shake (no matter how well balanced the 13" tires) and you can feel the engine vibrate in the steering wheel and all pedals. The Camry has none of that. You are much more isolated. The Cam quietly rolls at highway speeds with no steering wheel shake. The Cam has 14" tires, the Crayolla has 13". The Crayolla is hard to get in and out of. The Camry isn't. The Crayolla gets 34-35mpg highway. The Cam gets 28-30mpg highway- I drive it faster than the Crayolla. Just my 2¢

The Toyota Prius is one of the best engineered hybrid cars ever made and the fuel mileage is unbelievable like 50 + miles to a gallon and on one trip 60 MPG, I know their kind of ugly but they first started R&D in 1993 and the first release was 1997 in the USA they have improve every three or four years I have a 2013 and can't say enough good about it, give one a test drive they will really surprise you and when you use the combination of engine and main battery you will be very surprised at the instant power available as for me I am 80 and only interested in economy. I really enjoy your videos having once been a real mechanic back in the 60's,70's and 80's.

I see a couple of problems when replacing mirrors with cameras, Scotty. One is complexity: mirrors do not fail, but cameras do. Another is image fidelity: digital images cannot be rendered in real time, that's why you see some garbled images when there are many things moving too fast. Another thing to keep in mind is that by not having to move your head, you grow tired faster as the muscles on your neck do no change posture as often as needed. And lastly, displays have a different point of view, which means you need to focus your eyes on the surface of the display rather than on what the display is showing. I recently drove a truck with a display instead of a back mirror, and the stupid thing was too slow and too low definition and required refocusing my eyes every time I needed to check the rear view mirror. Now, with mirrors, you do not have to adjust your gaze because you are not really looking at the mirror, but what its been reflected on it.

Hi Scotty. I have done quite a few of starter replacements. What I found when that grinding noise occurs, the ring gear on the flywheel is worn, mostly on one specific place. ( engine tends to stop at the sam place when switched off) I remove the transmission, take of the flywheel, heat up the ring gear and the ring gear just fall off the flywheel when it is heated up. I then turn the ring gear around , put it back and let it cool off. Replace everything and problem solved without replacing starter motor.

My favorite was my 90 Daytona because some days when it was real cold the only gauge on the dashboard that would work upon cold start was the tachometer. Luckily it was a 5-speed and I already knew how to drive it by tachometer. I don't know if it was distance driven or the fact the car would finally warm up but all of a sudden the doors with lock and then my Speedo needle would jump up to whatever speed I was going.

In my personal experience a 10 years old TOYOTA is more reliable than a similar age and mileage Honda

I’d spring for the Camry. I think the step up is worth the price premium

I had a 2002 Ford ranger xlt 4x4 with the 4.0L v6 and automatic.. I bought new and kept up maintenance and and didn't beat on it just drove it normally and it had 220k miles when it finally got totaled in an accident and all I ever had to fix was a inexpensive sensor and a wheel bearing.. it still ran excellent and the trans worked perfectly.. it was an excellent truck..
