Norman Lear was instrumental in creating some of the greatest sitcoms in America. These shows included All in the Family, The Jeffersons, and Good Times. These shows were not only funny, but they also introduced audiences to some of the most popular black American characters. These shows provided opportunities for many talented black actors.
But, there’s another person who never got the credit he was due for his work on these shows. This person created George and Louise Jefferson as well the Evans family. He also wrote a popular film which inspired the sitcom What’s Happennin!!
Yet, this talented writer never got the credit he deserved. He also didn’t receive the remuneration that he deserved. In fact, he even sued Norman Lear over Good Times…
But what was the fate of this writer? Did this lawsuit cause any problems with Norman Lear’s career?
Norman Lear remains an icon of American television. He’s in his 90s now and is still seen as an inspiration for anyone in the industry. He continues to greenlight many TV shows to this day.
Things didn’t turn out so well for writer Eric Monte. He came from humble beginnings and hitchhiked all the way from Illinois to California, with the dreams of becoming a successful film and TV writer. One of his biggest dreams was to create black American characters that he’d be proud of watching.
So, what’s Eric Monte up to today? Did he manage to revamp his career after his falling out with Norman Lear? How did his life turn out?

Both Michale Evan and Eric Monte were responsible for the hit Good Times but never got full credit or the massive profits they deserved from that show. Blacklisting Monte also didn't help his career and seemed extremely petty since all Eric wanted was his fair share of the pie, which he earned.

Eric Monte should get every dime from every sitcom since 1971. Every single one. Even *Hello, Larry.* If there is so much as one red penny in profit from that show, it belongs to him.

You forgot to mention that the actor who originally played Lionel Jefferson, Mike Evans, was also the co creator of Good Times . Hence the Evans family last name and JJ’s brothers name being Mike Evans.

If TV was any good back then, it was in spite of him, not because of him. In fact, he’s the reason sitcoms were declared dead in the early 1980s. Everybody talks about how he “created” seven hit shows but nobody talks about all the bombs he left behind in addition to those. He single-handedly perpetrated the biggest hoax in television history. Take every bad thing you’ve ever heard about Walt Disney and it’s probably true when Norman Lear is accused of it. Even his own producers made better shows without him. Lucille Ball loved *Three’s Company.* Its producers left Norman Lear behind to make it for Don Taffner.

Racial inequality was going on back during these shows was aired an people still watch it in syndication today. Black experiences are best told by black peoples, different races of people have their own experiences too. Racial discrimination was going on in the 1970’s, since the beginning of time. Norman Lear is nothing but a talentless thief. He's a "genius" because he usurped other people's intellectual property -- Eric Monte's to be specific. Also no producer of characters would ever willingly just kill off any character he created. Norman created absolutely nothing. He was simply very well connected in Hollywood and had knowledge of how to surcomvent what he wanted to simply take from someone else, knowing the business aspect of it real well...That's it.
