Having lived in many states, New Mexicans have a particular hatred for Texans that is pretty unique, and is backed up by a rivalry that was continuously violent for a century.

Being an amateur historians, I understand the animosity towards Texas before the Compromise of 1850 when Texas claimed New Mexico as a county/region of Texas. Also, for its Civil War invasion as a base to eventually takeover the silver and gold fields of California along with valuable metals in New Mexico Territory. Such a wild scheme shows how desperate the South was to increase their treasury (?). I just do not see it today when I have been there and have received nothing but good vibes from New Mexicans. I glad to know that in modern times their majority is not caught up in presentism like the "wokistas".

Unm is one of the best law schools in the nation. Not to mention the first nuclear bomb was tested in white sands. And because of this new Netflix deal, New Mexico is already being used by films like Avengers, thor, red dawn, Breaking bad, Daybreak, The man in the high castle, the lone ranger, Bless me Ultima, etc. You are right that Texas is a huge economical support for the U.S. but New Mexico is number one in are weapons arsenal and our space aeronautics community.

It’s not quite true to say the Democrats were the Conservative party before the 20th Century. For one thing, they didn’t see politics as Conservatives vs Liberals like we do today. For another, what is meant by Conservative then isn’t the same thing as now. For example, was William Jennings Bryant a Liberal Democrat with Socialist tendencies, or was he a Fundamentalist Conservative Christian? The answer is both, and that makes it impossible to force him into the modern Conservative-vs-Liberal binary. Finally, there were plenty of Conservative Republicans and Liberal Democrats back then too. Neither party had a monopoly on either label.

None of us are too impressed with the Californication or swamp-yanqui agenda that those people bring to our beloved land. They are the ones working to divide us. New mexico for vacation? Christ brother to me we are like the closest thing to borderlands in real life. I genuinly want to have ammunition vending out here. But we arent really a vacation state. The state us mostly working class lower income there isnt really any resorts or attractions unless youre in albuquerque because its huge. To me in nm almost any other state is a vacation state in comparison 😂😂😂 but it takes being in nm for many years to truely appriciate it even for its dosnsides there is key aspects. It will he less prefered to live in compared to texas arizona colorado but theres still critical stuff that has to be done around here specifically for the benefits of people living in texas colorado and arizona. So some people have to be here managing things. Its a bug nuclear weapons area down there by that airforce base. Theres importsnt stuff that happens here. Manhattan project happened here. Its a big art place. If adolf hitler grew up in nm i have no doubt because of the states low popualtion and low education rates what would happen is he wouldve been accepted into art school snd maybe all that bad stuff wouldnt have happened. Im an art guy i took every art class I could i also took business related classes so in some degree maybe it really is where im from and where im supposef to be. I just wish we had fully automatics and ammunition in vending machines. The are the real border lands. Everyones chill until a new mexican does a drive by with a hot air balloon gratatata

Great video! My grandparents left New Mexico in the 1920s and moved to California. Their ancestors had been in Mexico since the founding of Santa Fe. Although, I have heard many stories about the rivalry between Texas and New Mexico from my grandmother, I've never heard of all the details given in your video. My grandmother's stories were more about the conflict between the sheepherders and the cattlemen over grazing rights. My grandparents families had been sheepherders and had been in New Mexico since the early 1500s. Cattlemen saw the sheepherders as invaders who destroyed public grazing lands. One of my grandmother's sheepherder relatives was badly beaten by a Texan cattleman because of this. All of this was back in the late 1800s around Magdalena, Socorro County. I wouldn't say she had a hatred of Texas, just a great fear.

I live in Texas and this is the first I've heard we had a rivalry with New Mexico. I travel to New Mexico very often. I'm typically in the small towns and I've yet to meet a liberal, which surprised me. These people find out I'm from Texas and correctly assume I'm a conservative and they open up about their displeasure with New Mexico's liberalism. Pretty interesting for me as it is not what I would have expected. When I question them about it, they tell me it's just the big cities in New Mexico that are so liberal. I tell them I didn't know New Mexico had any big cities LOL In all seriousness, everyone I've met and had conversations with there have been nothing but nice to me.

I am so happy you chose this subject! The divide between the state during the Civil War isn't just Northern NM vs Southern NM it is also a lot more local. Dona Ana County was divided itself between the Pro-Slavery Mesilla, against the smaller towns of Dona Ana and Las Cruces. The divide between the county had a lot to do with the fact that Mesilla was populated with a lot of Texans and richer Mexican families while Dona Ana was mainly poorer Mexican farmers and Las Cruces settled by a lot of Northern Whites. Also Cipher, I got a question for ya. Red of Green?
