Most people can only work with someone if they like them on every level. It's why our society is so broken today. It used to be that nobody cared whether you liked your co-workers or not, so long as work got done. Today if you don't like someone, you get them immediately fired. So every workplace has people that are all identical in every respect, that think exactly the same way on every issue, and those companies flounder because they can't work with any client or customer they meet because it's an instant clash.

From what Adam has said over the years, it's simply that they don't think the same. This resulted in a lot of friction between them on projects (Hence he said, "won't work together on other projects), which over the course of many years lead to some distaste for each other. However he's also said that them having completely different approaches to problems likely lead to much better outcomes on a lot of their projects and brought different ideas to the table. Ultimately they both respect each other but they needed some time apart. Adam has said that he does still talk to Jamie a few times a year, and he seems to mention him more frequently lately, so I think after some time apart they may be more friendly these days. However they still likely won't work together as that was what caused the problems in the first place.

"The idea that Adam never had to respect the shop that Jamie owned is so silly that it's not even funny. I don't come into your shop or home and make a mess without cleaning up after myself." Who ever claimed Adam didn't clean up? For one at the start of the series Adam worked FOR Jamie and would therefore have been hesitant to anger the boss and for seconds Adam owns a workshop himself and keeps it pretty neat if you've followed Tested... Also: you should not interprete too much into what has been seen on screen. They did pretty early on start to dramatize the whole series with overemphasizing the friction and troubles and later on outright milked it for every bit of comedic potential. Sure, both could drive the other one nuts, that is absolute fact from a lot of interviews and panels both have sat on, but that does not mean they did this every second of their collaboration to the utmost extent either. I do not really understand the problem... they have spent almost 15 years with work on the same and very time consuming project. It's not like they're married or whatever so wanting to do their own thing for some time without constantly carrying this partnership around like an anchor around your neck sounds not too far fetched.

You have to remember, Jamie didn't expect the show to survive beyond 1 season, let alone 14

The point is they didn't let the tension and arguments detract from the work. They both showed up and shot 14 seasons of the show even though they didn't get along and would often annoy one another. It didn't effect the work in a negative way. It's what being a professional is all about. Personal gripes are put aside and the job always comes first.

It's downright sad that Adam's being praised for his maturity. Not because of Adam, but because so many other people in the public eye lack even the most basic of human decencies to the point where maturity is out the window. Is being a big boy really so rare that it's a blessing when somebody acts professional? I am proud of Adam's straight-forward, non-dramatic, professional maturity expressed in this video, but I am appalled that this trait is a rarity among famous people. Hollywood folk and politicians need to sit down and take notes on this video, maybe if they still have a positive braincell count they'll learn something. We need more mature people

This is true professionalism. You do not have to like someone personally to do great work together. In his book, Adam sings Jamie's praise in various places and also provides some background information. His and Jamie's way of going about things is just fundamentally different and this might be one of the reasons they did not get along very well. And let us not forget: Jamie hired Adam into his SFX shop in the early 90s because he also thought that Adam is a good craftsman. Adam on the other hand, described Jamie as an excellent boss who would give his employees all the freedom they needed to try out and learn news things. One example which also reflects in the show and that makes perfect sense in retrospect: In one chapter, Adam describes a hypothetical scenario where both of them get the same task and four hours to complete it. Adam would set to work immediately and evolve his design gradually, mess up and maybe start over a few times but deliver the result on time. Jamie on the other hand, would spend three and a half hours planning and strategizing, and half an hour building, and finishing on time. But in the end they would come up with the exact same solution.

I remember learning, when the show was still going, how they never spent time with one another outside of the show. It made me really sad because like most fans I wanted to imagine them as super best buds. However, now that I’m a bit older/wiser I realize just how many work hours they spent together and how they absolutely needed that time away from one another. Shooting a show is a job like any other, and you don’t want even the best of work buddies around you all that much.

They did a good job working together on the show. I could never tell if they genuinely didn’t get along with each other or if it was just played up for the cameras. Really the most shocking part is that they only got along while building things and were able to make a show together for years and really didn’t like each other. They would have made some big bucks from that gig and been able to leverage their raised profile into new ventures so it makes sense that now that they’ve gotten about as much as they could possibly get out of working together on that show they are more than content to never see each other ever again. There’s something really uplifting about that unity of purpose they shared there.

It's huge sign of maturity and being a professional when you accept the fact that you won't share the same work-style, methods, and personality type of the people you work with- but you can still collaborate to get a job done. Also, if you've watched any of Adam's videos on his question and answer channel, he recounts dozens of stressful situations on the show in regard to long filming hours, deadlines, etc. That, as a back drop, seems to work it's way into many of his stories. Those conditions and close quarters with a small group of people can bring out friction, even between people who get along great under standard circumstances.

M5-Industries. MI6 is the UK's Secret Service. James Bond "works" there.

ironically when I lived in the Mojave I would get near-daily flood warnings. My phone would just say "SEEK SHELTER, FLASH FLOOD WARNING" never saw any floods

@@mursuka80that’s a very surface level take. Jamie was probably just aware that he on his own couldn’t carry the show, and in order to make a successful show he would have to work with a personality different to his own, even if it was unpleasant.

This is really good life lesson. You can work with people your don't personally like, or rub you the wrong way, but still trust and respect with your life. These experiments they do on Mythbusters are dangerous in the wrong hands. Yet two people who normally would not hang out with each other, come together to do a common job. I find these days, too many people get hung up with "do I want to hang out with this person after work" vs "will this person get the job done professionally".

That is the absolute problem with media and all this "stars"-bullshit, people see people for some minutes, seconds or even on single pictures smiling and think they are happy and all good humans, happy because they are rich and famous, but in the rest of 24 hour day they have no idea of who they are, what they are doing, how much cocaine is in their brain, how many children they rape, how often they sit there crying with a shotgun in the mouth etc. It's all fake, it was made to distract, to deceive, to manipulate and so on, but still this is for the most more real than reality.

I thought this video was gonna be some reporter shoving a camera in his face just to get a one word answer he actually explained very well

Kind of sad tbh. This was one of my favorite shows when I was younger, and, while it is abundantly obvious they had completely different personalities, one would think they would have developed a lasting report built largely on the respect they clearly have for one another and the experiences they shared.
