    I’m fairly confident your journey to scratch would come to an abrupt end if you got new wedges and proper gapping in them!

    I'm planning on doing a video as we start the golf season!! There hasn't been a lot of action in the handicap (or on the golf course) in the last few months, but I think it'll be really cool to document where I stand in early March and then compare it later in the year!

    I have a number of SM5 heads (favorite shape outside of the now illegal Spin Milled 2009) and they’re all the same loft and grind, 60.04 which on future releases Vokey started calling the L grind. I set an eBay alert for “Vokey SM5 60.04” and buy every decent one that comes in for less than $80. Some are great, some are not as great (like two years of wear) lol. You might consider doing the same for your beloved 588-I’m fairly certain in a month or two you’d find at least one adequate replacement for your fav. wedge.

    Yeah agree with this! I spent a couple weeks hitting on my r10 100%/80%/50% and punch shots with each club. Taking the averages of each and recording it so I know exactly what club to pull and what shot to hit and when. Like 50% 8 iron or a 100% pw go the same distance but with different landing and spin. Took some time but it’s helped me a lot. Keep on grinding!

    A few thing that caught my eye in this video that you didn’t talk about. I noticed you have the arccos system in the grip of some of your clubs. Do you think this has helped you improve? Also in some of your last videos you were working on swing speed and swing speed training. I just happened to see that big yellow cone in your red bag off to the right. Is this the stack swing system. How long have you had it and is this worth the price tag. As always enjoying you and your videos I can’t wait for more daylight and get to see you back on the course in the afternoons after work.

    4 degree gaping is pretty standard at the bottom of the bag. I have the same set of irons and play a 52, 56 60 in vokey sm9s. You could bend those wedges but it will mess with bounce.

    Thanks for sharing! I’m in the process of getting fit for a new set of irons going into this year with the intent of growing with them for the next few years. As for the ball, I played the Z Star divide for over a year. I’m a sucker for alignment aids on golf balls and I liked the half white, half yellow color of that ball. I really loved the amount of spin I got off of it around the greens, but I felt it launched/spun a little too high with driver. I’ve since switched to the Pro V1X which gives me better launch and decent enough spin around the greens.

    Thanks for sharing WITB…About changing the driver shaft, depending on the shaft that you get fitted for, it can cost the same or even more than a new driver…about the wedges, definitely you need proper gaping 50/54/58 or 52/56/60.

    Kirkland wedges are goat'd for the price. 52, 56, 60. The gap from my 50 GW to the 56 Kirkland is pretty much gone now. Easy to train out 2 degrees.

  • @johnniekeats
    @johnniekeats4 ай бұрын

    Erndog - if you're used to using a 56 for everything under 100 yards, get the Vokey bent down to 56 and bend the 50 up to a 52. If your PW is 48, a 4° gap between the 3 should keep you going until you find a new wedge set you want to buy. Also, get the loft checked on the PW just to make sure - even after I've bought clubs fitted and brand new, the lofts have been up to 3° off, plus or minus.

  • @Clyde__Frog

    @Clyde__Frog

    4 ай бұрын

    That could work great but it would change the bounce quite a bit and he might not like hitting the club any more. Just something to keep in mind when bending clubs.

  • @johnniekeats

    @johnniekeats

    4 ай бұрын

    @@Clyde__Frog It's one degree of bounce per degree of loft. So, for example, if the 58 has 12 degrees of bounce and is bent to 56 the bounce becomes 10 degrees. Bending the 50 to 52 will increase the bounce by 2 degrees. In most cases, it's barely noticeable. If Erndog often plays in very soft turf conditions, having less loft on a 56 bent from a 58 might cause a bit of digging. For a greenside wedge, even in soft conditions, with average low-point control, 10 degrees is plenty - unless you're using the same wedge for shots out of bunkers with really deep, soft sand, then you might want a bit more.

    After I left my Cleveland 56* on a green somewhere, my brother gave me his lightly used Kirkland wedge set as a “temporary” solution until I got something else. They’ve been in my bag for a year and a half now and just don’t feel like I need to change them. The grips suck but otherwise I like them just fine and wedges are the strongest part of my game.

Then do a wedge gapping session with full, chest and belt high shots. Think about getting a 46 in the Vokey to replace your PW. Much more versatile and better in rough and when wet.

    Haven’t scrolled down to look at the comments, but you basically have four wedges that are right on top of each other…. Since you already have a set that basically has a strong, lofted gap wedge, I would probably pick up a 54 and a 58 and call it a day on the wedges. If you’re going to pick up Fairway Woods, I would recommend trying to get woods in a 15° range and then a 20° range. I feel like three wood and five wood are basically on top of each other and a lot more people are going with a bigger gap in between their woods because what they give up and distance, they are gaining in land angle, and especially when coming into par fives or playing par threes. You said golf is expensive but yet you’re playing Pro V.? $60 a dozen? There are a lot of golf balls out there that are so close to the Pro V. and $20 a dozen cheaper and even cheaper if you’re wanting to play a Kirkland but you will lose some distance but you will maintain spin, and for a cheap ball that spins it’s the best. But seriously clean the gapping up in your wedges. You having two gap wedges, and two higher lofted wedges that are 2° away from each other is wild….

    Why not work with your coach to figure out what clubs / ball you should be playing? Seems a little counter-intuitive to be playing a LS driver head and admit you have a low launch angle on your shots, yet prefer playing a high spin ball?
