Awww, this feels like an old school Cory Co Op video and I am here for it. Of course tanks get out of shape, especially when you have 40 of them! What I noticed was that the fish looked healthy, and clearly that's what's most important. While algae may be ugly, it isn't necessarily bad for the fish. As long as the water quality is good and the food is good, the fish are happy 🐟

Lol. So I'm always trying to figure out how to fix this...lol Your videos are great because they are so educational. Not only do they provide great examples of the subject, you provide a foundation of thought. You're a very good teacher. Trolls are usually jealous, and they should be! Glad to hear that your business partner is doing better. Personally, I enjoy hearing about the development process and entire system from creativity to production through failure to success. Without innovation, we wouldn’t have nice and cool things in the hobby. As a hobbyist, I vote with my money and I buy from Aquarium coop knowing that while the products are produced overseas, the quality control is strictly enforced by people that know what the consumer wants. Take the battery air pump for example- it was a fiasco, but the COOP came through and made it work. I support companies that work hard and take pride in their work provide quality products. Keep it up Corey (and the team)

Loyalty to proven companies is what free enterprise is all about. I have had aquariums since the 4th grade (I am 65). I have two planted aquariums and a pondie/swampie thing. It is all one big ongoing experiment through which I continue to learn after all these years. Thank You Cory!

Thanks so much for this. I've been "neglecting" my tanks for a couple of months due to life stress, and I was feeling some shame about it. It's good to hear validation and see that there is a way back from it. I'm also trying to change the narrative in my head; yeah, I let my tanks get fonky, but I ALSO created self-sustaining ecosystems that can grow and thrive without maintenance.

If you really want to blast the water faster from the sponge filter tubing to get faster flow, you can make the outlet at the top smaller than the inlet at the bottom. It’s like when you hold a garden hose at the end and block part of the hole with your finger to make the water flow faster. If the water is flowing at a steady constant rate, then if you decrease the cross-sectional size of the outlet hole that they exit compared to the inlet hole where the water enters, then the water has to exit faster to make enough room for the new water coming in.

Fish are tougher than we think. My Mom had a heath crisis and I was out of state for all of June. Thank God and good doctors and nurses, she recovered. I had my fish fed once a week and I only lost a couple of fish over a total of 17 tanks. I was counting on the algae to help keep my water clean. I ended up with algae in all my tanks except the ones with pathos growing out of the top of the tanks. I believe the algae helped to keep my water balanced and clear of nitrates. That and the duck weed! Toss Lady Bird a clam and tell her Ginger sent it! I love seeing her, esp. since I remember when you got her. I am happy to hear your partner is doing better. I'm sure he has a long way to go to get back to "normal". Having your support went a long way in helping him on his journey. I know me staying with my Mom 100% helped her recover faster.

This is BRILLIANT! If Cory isn't stressed out and says it takes time to get the hang of whatever tank-fish-plant combo, in what part of my house, this time of year, this now where I am in my life, and outside things happening... then I won't panic either. Great relief. It's ok for nature to be nature. I have to watch, listen, think, seek advice and do whatever works for me - to give my tank it's best chance to work with nature, not against it. Thank You.

Cory as a RPP of yours, a tiny shop compared to most, I am amazed at what you are able to get done. The amount of content you are able to generate on top of doing your own personal fish room like this speaks volumes. The haters will always hate on greatness, and the highlights of how to handle a tank that has been neglected is in my view very important. MOST people in the hobby run into times like this for way less in terms of tanks at home etc. Life keeps us busy but when you love what you're doing you get it done! Live stock seem to be flourishing in your fish room, so that is the key benchmark to take note of. Keep doing what you're doing, you are one of the handful of key players improving this hobby for everyone!

Especially considering how busy you are with other things. I love your point about the plant to algae ratio. My tank is a jungle and the glass stays pretty much crystal clear apart from some wild limpets that established in there. It’s almost more of a plant tank than a fish tank.

I am SO happy to hear your friend is better! Oh my goodness, that’s scary! Algae vs. a human..?! Not a question of prioritization!! As for the tanks, goodness, they take work?! I NEVER knew…! 😅 HUGE thanks for showing us your tanks, & for your unflappable attitude. You’re not concerned, never intimated things were beyond repair. I had to set-up a new tank to separate an aggressive fish who killed one/was attacking another of my oldest & favorite water puppies. That new tank looks awful w/ algae, & after losing one of my pets, barely saving the other after 6-weeks of treatments, the new algae-issue was discouraging. And frankly, because of all that and my OWN suddenly-busy life, I’ve NOT been watching you & my other aquatic-favorites. That can be MORE discouraging. So your video is timely…& I do like the filter modifications. Will be watching for that retro-fit!

I really enjoy the transparency with these fish videos and how not all tanks are beautiful and pristine like some other aquarists show online. I always have algae problems (like I’m sure most of us do) so I love all of your tips and tricks to deal with it.

Thanks for keeping it real, Cory! Glad to hear your partner's doing better. I imagine it'd be real easy to doctor your videos such that everything looks perfect. The idea of "balance" is so important. I've only been in the hobby for 18 months, but I'm fully immersed. That's one of the biggest lessons. I reset a tank early on, but struggling with one has been much more helpful in learning how to fix problems long-term.

These look awesome, and you included them with the sponge filters I just ordered. Really appreciate it. Perfect for what I needed for a couple nano tanks. I've been trying to find a product that did exactly this, and didn't even know it existed until I bought your sponge filters. I always knew and usually followed, the idea that, buy it once. Quality of a product is understated in most industries. Trying to get into fish keeping, I definitely cut corners, and I've found myself replacing those items over the last year and a half. Most of the replacements have been your products, and I don't regret any of them so far. The coarse sponges alone changed a ton of the labor involved in cleaning the tanks.

Dan's fish did a video an algae eating race between Amano shrimp, Florida flag fish, and the green leaf algae eating shrimp. And it was the Green Leaf algae eating shrimp that won. They love hair algea!

Glad to hear your friend is getting better. That sounded like a very scary situation. I always like to see imperfect fish rooms. My tanks look a bit disheveled too, but I kind of like it that way, I think it looks more natural. Really as long as the fish are happy & healthy everything is good.
