Why Mutable Plaits is STILL one of the best sound sources in Eurorack / 7 patch ideas

Can't fight the GAS anymore? Here's all my favorite gear: thmn.to/thocf/d2hw9pqzcp
When I was planning this first modular synth of mine and asking for beginner advice for modules, one sound source was clearly recommended the most. Plaits. So after having it for a few weeks now I thought I'd share a few different examples of its capabilities and make some beats. Hope you like it.

Been a subscriber for a while and love your OP-Z and Deluge videos. As someone who also has a small 9U modular rig, I would find more modular videos super rad. This one is great!

Thank you so much! One thing I have to ask since I'm green to all of this though: does 9U count as a small rack? 😅
This is good stuff. I like how you’re developing and branching out. Your approach to modular has been very reasonable and sensible. Definitely do more like this. Great stuff as usual.

Lovely, and timely for me to see this clip, as i just took the "Rabbit Plunge" , started my foolish endeavour with a Nifty, a Pammy, a Plaits and a Rample... now im onto connecting my semimodular synths , Mainly my Arp 4600, Granny, O-coast, Erebus and Nyx, the Microfreak,and a Hydra as controller... im doomed ... !

Very glad to discover your channel! Out of interest, how are you processing the signal from the modular? Sounds fantastic! More modular videos please. Subscribed! :)
@whaleshaveteeth
2 жыл бұрын
Thank you so much! I'm not doing anything special to the signal. I have it going from HPO to my camera's input during clips where there's no second sound source and in the clips where I have OP-Z doing drums, I'm recording both to Ableton. Then I just add a limiter and try to get loudness around -14LUFS, which this service prefers.
The comments are very useful!
Great video. Plaits is one of the legendary modules. Also I would use this platform and call out RO'VED, fantastic 1u version of Plaits by Plum Audio. It is NOT a clone, it has unique button functions, and extra features like frequency lock, sub oscillators, different targets for modulating level input (you can modulate decay on internal LPG and filter, something impossible on OG Plaits), and now with the latest firmware there is internal SH one every modulation input. Awesome module, both og and RO'VED.
@whaleshaveteeth

Damn, that sounds amazing. I have to take a look since I don't have Plaits anymore but I still have free 1U space...
@earlsfield
7 ай бұрын
@@whaleshaveteeth yeah that is the only downside to it, it takes a lots of space (28 hp I think). Add Quadritt to the 1U row and you are almost at the half of your 1U, if you run 108 or 84 case. However, i find it extremely inspiring due to the unique features on top of the already legendary module. For instance, get to the first “orange” mode, bass, and enable sub - octave, you get instant “ladder filter-like” electronic bass, but reinforced with the sub octave (something I often do on bass patches, both on Moog and Pro 3, one oscillator for the main timbre and colour - square/pw or saw, and one triangle or sine one octave below). Basic stuff like that, or just go bonkers and modulate envelope decay (something you cant do on OG Plaits), and you can really get interesting organic stuff coming out of the module.

I love the fm mode for bass. Add an analog filter or wave folder and you've got a flexible growl.

@@whaleshaveteeth C4rbon is great. So many great options. Warps, if you like the mutable way of doing things. Ultrafold is a nice one that's on the cheap side (relative to eurorack).

Nice video as usual! Is it a 64hp pod? Since you like wobbly chords I must remind you that there are two chord modes in Rings as well. The first one is activated by long pressing the right button when the yellow mode is on.
@whaleshaveteeth
2 жыл бұрын
Cheers! Yeah, Pod 64X . The build quality is amazing and I really like the looks of it. I've been thinking about getting another for control surfaces and I/O but let's see! I still haven't tried the Western Chords mode, but the easter egg one on Rings is so fat! I used that in my previous video: kzread.info/dash/bejne/i6Kp2Juxc6-cgNI.html
Hosa Stereo Breakout (3.5 mm TRS to Dual 3.5 mm TSF) with the red and black female ends is what I was trying to find the name of from Insta. That's the thing that can enable you to use the CV2/3 from the OP-Z. Depends if you're running out of modulation sources or whatever.

Yeah, that's a very powerful addition to an already powerful module! I'm using the Scale Duet quantizer on uO_C in this video because it allows me to have two different sets of notes and change between the sets. The small shift in melody comes from that.
What’s the two modules after beads. Looking to start my first modular system and need some direction on a simple but powerful system with these kind of possibilities
