I like following people with unique lifestyles - Jetting Julia (flight attendant), Eva zu Beck (adventures on the road), Sailing LaVagabonde (life on a sailboat - with kids!), The Crew Chef (cooking for crew and guests on a mega yacht), and Kara and Nate (travel) are a few. Probably the most “normal” type blogger I follow is Shelby Church Vlogs and sometimes her sister Monica. Good vlogs can be hard to find sometimes so appreciate your advice!
"Now one cares about you." I heard this advice a few years ago and it changed my perspective completely with content creation. People want something for themselves. What is your audience getting out of it? Eventually, if you're lucky, they will start watching not just for the content, but for YOU.

The only vlogs I tend to watch have no talking in them at all. Just great storytelling told through beautiful peaceful footage, nice music, and subtitles. I can watch people do laundry and rake their gardens all day sometimes! My faves are Her 86m2 and Hamimommy. They are so good at it!

Vlogs is what I mostly watch on KZread. For me, the vloggers I'm drawn to are those who align to my travel interests (e.g. Japan), silent ones (asian vloggers), hometown ones (vloggers in my city), and finally those where i simply find their life or personality unique or interesting to me. Editing and style are also important but not deal breakers
Laughing at myself as a new KZreadr wondering why my vlogs were flopping so bad! It all makes sense. Thank you for putting it into perspective ❤

This is exactly what I came to realise. I had to understand that no one actually cares about me or what I do 😂 - so I changed my content to be a lot more informative and having the focus on what viewers will actually want to see. Of many people enjoyed the vlog content, but viewers ultimately want to be engaged - and since I’ve changed my focus/content, my channel has grown SO much in comparison to how it had been growing!
I finally figured out after all these years why my vlogs weren’t successful on my YT channel- it was boring and nobody cared but me 😂 I feel like vlogging is very successful on TikTok because 1 min long is more consumable. Thank you for your tips!
I am currently planning and preparing to start a KZread channel and am doing a lot of research for it. And I do think the whole "Nobody cares" topic is crucial. Your vlogs / stories should be showing something that is at least a little different from what the average person experiences or should document what life is like for a certain specific group of people in order to really engage viewers. What I mean by that is that most successful vloggers who document their life are e.g. living in a cabin in the woods or living in a van or have a specific career so they can show what a work day looks like in this career or are a student at an elite university so people are curious about what life is like there etc. etc. As Katie mentions in the video - you don't have to survive by yourself on a desert island, but your vlogs should contain aspects that are in some shape or form out of the ordinary - even if it's just taking a swim in a cold lake in winter or something that people are going to click on just because it's different from their own everyday life. It should be something that people will want to watch because maybe they wish their life could be like that or are working towards that. Of course there are many other aspects to it but ideally your vlogs should be something that not every single average person with a smartphone can effortlessly reproduce.

yes work vlogs, school vlogs, living alone vlogs or productive vlogs
You're correct and I've seen lots of flourishing vlog channels. Viewers are hooked to their vlog style, editing style, bubbly personality or interesting/unique life.
About to film + edit my first vlog and this was SO incredibly valuable. Storytelling can be so intimidating but you broke it down in such a simplified way, thank you katie!!!
Figuring our how to make people care is so so important. I feel like a good way to do that is to get multiple perspectives & voices into your video ! It can really help start a conversation of anytime beginning in the actual video & hopefully to the audience once the video gets uploaded
So helpful to see the story formula you identified. It makes sense that it would be much more interesting than just seeing someone go about their day. I’ve been considering how to add vlog elements to my channel sometime in the future and this gives me some great ideas. Thank you!
This video was SO helpful Katie!! I love the detail you put into to helping your audience with genuine tips that can truly help our channels improve!!! You are so generous with the wisdom you share here, and I also love your video style! Thank you so much for making your videos :)
Yes I love this video! Once I stopped just vlogging my day-to-day life and started thinking more strategically about what I'm sharing and what people are going to get out of it that's when I started seeing more results!!
This video is fabulous, thank you for making it. I love that you are not a constant product pusher, and your genuine nature shines through. I am currently planning my first KZread video and feeling quite overwhelmed indeed. Again, thank you.
hi Katie, I've just watched your videos on vlogging, and I appreciate how real you are! You don't hash out the same old things every other youtube video says about vlogging, but rather, actual helpful and new tips. Thank you!!
'Find the story, in the truth of it." Excellent advice. I am grateful I have found your channel, Katie -- and I, very much, look forward to watching more of your videos. Thank you. 💛
Yeah, I’ve been learning how to get that story aspect down and now I’m challenging myself to start a vlog series instead of endlessly creating a stream of hauls, what I eat in a days, etc.
I’ve been watching so many of your videos! Thank you for your tips that are helping as small channels!
Loved this video and how informative it is! I agree with all your points. Storytelling not only is important to keep people watching your videos, but also it kind of adds value to your story (at least I like to see it in this way). It’s a chance to challenge your creativity, and add deeper thoughts and feelings to a “simple” video ✨
This was great!! Gave me a lot to think about! It is crazy how you hear all the tips but then one will click and you can’t wait to implement it. Thanks!
Thank you for your absolutely GOLDEN advice. Engagement and keeping things interesting is definitely key for vlogs and I’m hoping I can find the niche that works best for me 😌💗
This is so true 🙌 I think the mix between search based content and vlog style just make sure your vlogs give value and things will work out 🥰
This was very interesting! And I loved that you explain everything in a very visual, easy to understand way and give examples!
Thank you so much for all of these tips! I want to learn more about storytelling as a vlogger. I feel like I'm just starting to get an inkling of how that would work and I'm excited to learn more!
I’ve been waiting to find a video that addresses exactly these topics!!! Thanks for sharing! Would love to see more
I love everything about this video its so well explained and gives me hope for vlogging on YT
Girl thank you so much I’ve been so discouraged lately but now it’s go time! I love your content ❤️
I loved the example you gave of the couple adventure channel. I immediately felt welcomed in their video from that brief recap. That's definitely something I could see myself incorporating in my art vlogs 🎨 Thanks so much for the tip!
Yaaas 100% more vlogging tips and strategies please! There's a lot out there about the technical side of vlogging, but not enough on how to plan a vlog / your series of vlogs. I find it all hugely interesting on how to structure a story in a single vlog, but then also what is the bigger story narrative of you and your vlog channel (much like a TV show) Any strategic insights are much appreciated 🙏 Thanks for the valuable content!
literally the best youtube video out there for vloggers who are just starting (like me!). amazing storytelling and totally changed my perspective on how to frame my future vlogs. THANK YOU KATIE ❤
I heard it was nearly impossible to grow a vlog channel on KZread, but I didn't let that discourage me from trying! It hasn't been easy, but here we are, still at it after 3 years. I do think that having somewhat of an edutainment channel has helped. Thanks for this video, you did such a great job at explaining how to do better!
Wow Katie! You are the first vlogger who has really kept me hooked! Thank you so much. I will definitely be using this on my vlogs.
Loved this! So many useful tips 🧡 would love more videos on youtube analytics/strategies!
Love this 👍🏾💕 it was truly helpful! This was my first video I watched by you and now I’m subscribed and in freaking love brb while I binge watch the videosss…..✌🏾
Two things I think from hearing what you are saying. 1: How can I make my vlog relatable to my viewers (new and old). 2: How can I bring value to my viewers (new and old) Bonus: How can I combine the two to make a SUPER engaging video that always leaves my viewers coming away with something.
Thanks for great advice 😀 On my way to greatness, but I do absolutely see that this takes time.
This is golden. I literally just wrote down everything you said. I would love more KZread videos from you!
Would definitely love to see more!! Great video. Thank you for the tips.
Her 86m2 is REDICULOUSLY good. She has 1.42M subscribers! Its ridiculous and amazing. Also TheCottageFairy has 1.2M subs and she's great also - just discovered them both. Thank you for your video. great advice.
Just found this video and am thrilled with all the GEMS you shared in this video! Took a break on YT but will be returning better than before! Thanks for the great advice! Going to binge all your other videos now! 🤗💕
You are constantly dropping valuable gems!! Thanks! 🙏🏾
You are great at what you do! If I never get this gig...you have much to be proud of. Thank you Katie.
Craig and Aimee truly are SO great at travel vlogging. I love their content and from a creator perspective I'm always in awe of how much work that takes.
first time here!! this video was filled with way more value than i was anticipating lmao thank you!!!!
This was super informative!! It's definitely something I've been lacking and not paying attention to in my own vlogs. Thanks for your advice, it's going to help so many inspiring vloggers along the way
Would love to learn more! Thank you for all the time and energy and insights you bring to your videos.
My favorite part is when you break down the formula of how to structure the video so it tells a story - Yes! would love to hear more about this type of thing - bravo :)
Dang these tips were soo good. I would totally love more videos regarding this topic of starting youtube, vlogging and organizing your content/video to then film.
We had been trying to grow as a vlogging channel for over a year and it wasn’t until we defined a clear purpose for our channel and for each video that we started to do well. Great advice!
Oh, That was sooo insightful and helpful! Thank you so much for sharing all this information and tips! I've been thinking of starting a vlog channel and this is all great to know from the getgo! Now I'm even more excited! Thank you thank you thank you!!
I just got the dose of inspiration that I have been searching for all month long. Thanks! 👍👍👍
Wonderful video! I love the way you presented the content, and I’d love to see more about the analytic and CTR. I’m newly subscribed to your channel, and am looking forward to seeing more of your videos!
Been here binging your content. Thank you for all your advice this far. Definitely subscribed. ❤ Trying to get my channel to the next week. I took some great notes. I appreciate you, Katie.
Appreciate the tips Katie. I've been wanting to branch out a little into vlogs and this gives me some ideas.
The timing of this video was absolutely perfect!! Thanks so much
This was an excellent video, thank you! Sometimes you have the pieces of the puzzle but need to know how to put them together.. You helped put them together😃
This is Gold ! Thank you Katie!
tysm for this Katie! I’m def gonna work to implement this into my vlogs
You are a great producer, teacher and on-air personality. 🙌 Thank you for your brilliant and inspiring videos.
Murillo Twins, Elliot Choy, Emma Chamberlain, Aaliyah Jay, Aaliyah’s Face, Kirah Ominique are successful vloggers, vlogging ain’t for everyone. There’s something for someone’s personality. 🤗
Just came across this while researching "discouraged as a new youtube creator" LOLLL looking for some inspiration and guidance. Thank you so much for these amazing tips. It's helpful to know that a lot of new vloggers fall into these things and so good to remember it's a learning curve. Just subscribed and excited to learn more from you
A lot of great insight in here! Excellent job!
Love your channel and your tips! I find them so so helpful 🥰
It's really true..making my channel interesting is really something I'm working on these days...because to be known to unknown is not something easily done...
Thank you for sharing this! I’m just starting a KZread vlogging channel I have been doing ALL the research there is
Ty so much!!! I'm going to try implementing what you said 😄 !
I was just thinking about start shooting vlogs. But had some doubts. Thanks to your video I will do it! Thank you 💗
This actulally helped! Thank you Katie!
This is fascinating, Katie! I want to incorporate this idea into my "audiologs" on my podcast.
Thanks for the tips- really useful! We are just a gramma and grandpa living in rural Japan and I think where we live is an interesting and beautiful place! It’s trying to put the “beautiful and interesting” into videos that’s hard! One reason why we have our channel is so that when we are both passed away our children and grandchildren will have the videos. But we’d like others to enjoy them as well. KZread content creators have a hard job!
this is really really great advice. thank you!!!! re-inspired me! and yes more videos like this pls!!!
Part of the reason I love your videos is I feel that I get so much value from what you say. You don’t just tell us: for example, I didn’t understand the “and then” storytelling method you were talking about until you illustrated it with making a work vlog, and then I had a lightbulb moment! I’ve seen so much growth since I started watching your videos, and I feel like it’s because of explaining things in that accessible way. Thank you!

Thank you so much Katie💪🏾💯. U give really gud advice and I’m going to apply it to my channel.
What an interesting story! I’m not a content creator but your story had me hooked. Thanks 🙏🏼 for sharing.
This was such great inspiration Katie! 👏✨✨✨
I would love some more Vlogging strategies / seeing you analyze successful vlog channels. Thankfully since I’m in the authortube nitch I at least always have a “working toward this goal” narrative, but now that I’m transitioning to starting gradschool I know I have to take my channel in a new direction and am not entirely sure how to get there / the planning aspect is definitely tricky! Thanks for the great video:)

This video was very helpful! Thanks so much for making this video!
thank you so much for the helpful information! i just started a new vlog series on my channel and i learned some tips to implement in my videos. i realized just how much more goes into vlogs other than just editing and adding music to keep the viewer interested!
Omg thanks you Sm, this is awesome advice!!! I started using these tips recently!!!
This was great! Very few of these cater to vloggers. And as a creator I feel like I get lost in the story line and forget to do the KZread specific things… like remind them who I am.
I so needed this video. Thank you for perfect timing
I started my KZread channel and finally summoned the courage to post it two days ago. This is indeed helpful. Thanks
Hi Katie, thanks so much for making this video! It's really useful for a youtube beginner like me. I've been reflecting a lot lately on how to further improve my videos, making it interesting for my viewers and further reinforce my objectives of starting the channel. What you've said in the video is really helpful and enlightening. :)
Thank you for your very simply explained tips. Easy to remember and not intimidating with bla bla bla… this is just a chillin way of teaching and guiding.
Very useful advice, Katie! Thank you. I think I can nail the "and then" adjustment with a "No, Miles, no....!" theme regularly, which is quite authentic. My daily life is mostly like that. Intro: I have a plan today, mostly, I think. I hear: "I don't think you should do that, Miles!" (buildup), and then "Miles, I told you" (breakdown, maybe literally), and then, me again, with a conclusion: "I'll be back next time for you guys, my sadistic returners, and to the new ones who are wondering how it is possible for me to resolve this. I guess you can guess how it'll start...."
I am so thrilled I found you! I am plowing through your content! Thank you for all of your research and hard work! I love Kara and Nate and Jonna Jinton.
I’d appreciate more videos on this topic. This was very helpful!
