Why Most People Don't Need the Xbox Series X and Should Go with a Series S

Ойындар

Have you been thinking about which Xbox console to get? The Series X is still extremely difficult to get at retail price. Who really wants to spend scalper prices? I don't know any, but I feel the Series S is actually a better option for most mainstream gamers. Let's find out why.

@@123theprodigy5 - I tend to think of it in terms more like a PC. If you have 3 generations of graphic cards you need to account for, that's how the Series S is approached. You have the PC version, the Series X, and the Series S. That can also include the One X/One S, but I'm not sure if that uses the same code base (I don't think it does) as the former.

As young adult working a low paying job and still paying for myself to get through university. I got my series S yesterday and I dont regret it one bit. I had my original xbox one since 2015 and my upgrade path focused on getting the Series S cause it is a major improvement and just made more sense financially. Storage is a problem but the easiest solution I found is that prioritise putting your optimised games on the internal storage and games you play regularly, the rest of the games keep on an external hdd or ssd and when you want to play ,just move games over and your problem solved.

  • @BusyDadGaming

Good video. I agree with everything you said. As a One X owner who got a Series S, I can see the logic in telling them to wait for the Series X but, after the 1st day playing my Series S, I think it's worth taking the graphics hit to upgrade to 60FPS, faster load times, and smoother gameplay. The only downside is storage. While buying the 2TB SSD will be insane until the price goes down, I think you're want to buy the 1TB SSD because, transferring games back and forth will get old real quick, and as more games come out optimized, or exclusive to the current generation, more space will be required. I might not even get the Series X when it becomes a available, I might wait for the refresh.

Anyone who opts for the cheaper alternative will get hooked right into the eco system buying digital games which makes Microsoft more money in the long run, which isn't always painted out to be a bad thing either. I refuse to pay for half assed games at full price anyways so Im probably going to go back to buying physical copies and only getting the cant miss games in digital. Case in point, I just got Chivalry 2(new) and Ghost of Tsushima(preowned) all at $40. Getting these in digital form would have cost me $80 for both.

Wow I never thought I'd say that consoles are difficult to choose or obtain, though cloud gaming might be enough to help equal the performance gap. I'm very on the fence still about a Series S or waiting for Series X to be more available at MSRP. I'll Probably go with Series X as I like physical media > digital.

Try buying an X for MSRP. I've had my S for 6 months, bought it for a normal price, received it the next day. It's been an excellent purchase and pairs well with my LG CX48. The Series X is unobtanium for normal price here in Germany. I refuse to pay over the odds to a scalper.

@@pcread If you have a good PC, one might argue you do not need the Xbox Series console. Sure you might want it, you might want to have the living room experience with console and maybe use XGP Ultimate on both (Xbox and PC). So I get why you want one. The problem with availability is also that in some countries there are some consoles in stores. But a few and deliveries are far between. But the stores are using scalper like practices. Example: A console + additional controller (at MSRP, even though the same store sells it separately cheaper) + a game or two which were already heavily discounted of course with day 1 price. Which means that yeah you can buy it but you still overpay anything from 20 do 60eur. (or even more for PS5 so called bundles). I was lucky to get XSX back in January. I like a good piece of hardware.

The bang for buck you get with this console especially when paired with gamepass is fantastic. It's particularly good for me as a first xbox experience because of the large back catalogue of games that I've never played so even if you do play a lot, it's still great. I'm probably going to get the Series X, because I'm a busy dad. My reasoning; I don't have to be tied to game pass on the months I don't think I'll use it much. I haven't had an Xbox since the 360, and it was my only Xbox. I want to play a lot of old Xbox exclusives that I've missed out on. If it takes me weeks to finish most games, and if I'm playing an older game, it might be best to have it physically. My other point is that I can pounce on deals on the discs as and when I see them. I reckon over 2 years I can save most of the price difference between both consoles. If the Series S had a disc drive, I wouldn't hesitate to buy it though.

I bought the Series S when MS Flight Sim came out on Xbox as i had been really wanting to play it and the X is impossible to find here in Australia. I only have a 1080 TV anyway so no loss there, and the 60fps is great on games that have it. And the reduced load times are almost worth the cost right there. For example XCOM 2, you can go from the Xbox dashboard, to playing the game in less than 20 seconds, even less if you leave your saved game running in the background. I also picked up the SSD as I knew I would need the space. Its expensive, but I will just transfer it to the Series X (or whatever the console is at the time) when I finally pick one up in the future. IMO the small HDD is the only thing holding this system back for a lot of people. Especially if you go in knowing you will probably upgrade mid way through the console cycle anyway.

In the midst of a global pandemic, a chip famine, and a ton of Grinch scalpers snatching everything up, I think it will be best to wait until next year or even later until 4K 120fps televisions and next generation consoles become more affordable. At that point, I will probably sell my One S and my 1080p TV (Combined worth about $350) and pool that money into a fund for an Xbox Series X, a PS5 slim, and a 4K 120hz television.

I was fortunate enough to get one just before Christmas. LOL, this was a Christmas gift to myself. That being said, as I consistently ‘struck out’ finding an X , I strongly considered purchasing an S but the lack of a drive was a huge deterrent. Like I stated, I have a huge library of physical games dating back to the original console, so I would need a drive to play them. Again, your informative breakdown gives strong reasons as to why one should consider an S or X. You are to be commended. Great job!!! It’s been great thus far especially with Forza Horizon 5 and even rainbow six extraction being “free” thanks to game pass. I will always still prefer PlayStation over Xbox as I’ve done since I had the PS2 but it’s nice being able to play the Xbox exclusives. Definitely excited about Starfield later in the year. As for the storage woes of the series S I have a 2TB external HDD for storing and playing older titles and storing the newer games if I want to pause temporarily so I don’t have to fully delete and re-install. I should also note back when I got my PS5 I went out and purchased a 50” 4K Samsung SmartTV which has a game mode.

Have you ever heard of a 4k upscaler I.E "Mclassic" would that be something to consider? Would it make the picture look more 4k? Or is it counterproductive seeing as how the series s already has integrated upscaling? Wouldnt it make the games that mainly target 1080p look more 4k? Ive heard alot of good feedback on the mclassic from Nintendo switch players. I would think you would get a boost from it when you play games like fortnite that target 1080p.

  • @BusyDadGaming

The Switch doesn't really do good upscaling, which is why you'd want something better (I almost never play it docked at this point). For the Series S, it does pretty good for upscaling and as additional technologies start to be more widely leveraged (FSR either at the base level or at the driver level as an example), it'll be even better.

I never went initially with the series X myself, I definitely went with the series S first. I waited another five or six weeks before I got the series X. And that’s only because I got the email from GameStop since I was a pro member and had a huge amount of points to redeem, which got me a nice chunk of money refunded off of the series X bundle that was available. So I responded to the email, called up GameStop. Gave them my information, put money down on it so they can hold it for me. Came in right at 10 o’clock in the morning later that week on Thursday. And the GameStop employee did in fact note to me that I was second from the last order. So if I hadn’t responded in time to that email, I probably wouldn’t have one even now perhaps. And I think it’s terrible, Covid, scalpers, everything that has led up to this low stock manufacturing.

Just got my series s and love it but I do have one concern. And that's future game development. Will the lower specs cause developers to be limited on what they can do? Will games be shorthanded so they look and play good on both consoles?

  • @BusyDadGaming

    @BusyDadGaming

    2 жыл бұрын

It's a valid concern. The Series consoles will work more like PC. PC, Series X, and Series S will all use the same code base and then be optimized for their hardware. This is similar to how PC works in that devs optimize based on the hardware the game is being played on. In this case, you could see the game on Ultra with an RTX 3080, High on Series X, and Med on Series S.

one of the reasons I'm leaning on the series X is also the fact that the I have 2 TV's and 1 Blu-ray player... I currently have an original Xbox one and it's still working great but if I replace it I don't want to also have to buy a new player to play all of the movies I have collected in previous years on physical media. Do I need a disc drive? no, but I use the xbox one I have now as my media hub so mainly for streaming movies, downloaded movies on USB drive and movies on physical disc... and of course the main reason, games.... but I've been downloading them so I don't have a need for a disc drive to play games. The extra SSD space internally on the X makes it a nice option too. Go big or go home ;)

For me the S is perfect because three of my most played games have been updated for it, Division 2 60fps, Gears 5 120fps and Titanfall 2 120fps on a 4k Samsung that is 1440@120hz max. Plus I have the one X so I should be okay until the series X is available.

That makes sense for many, I would encourage (assuming the finances work out) to keep the One X until the Series X is more readily available. The only caveat to that is trade-in values for the One X are the highest they have ever been.

In Canada where I live the series x at bestbuy is 649.99 in stock before tax. The series s at the same place is 380 same price as a iPad so the series s for me is a good price point.

Due to the difference in hardware between the two. Do you believe there will be a new release on the x that won't play on the s? Such as new elder scrolls game or possibly even Star field?

  • @BusyDadGaming

    @BusyDadGaming

    2 жыл бұрын

No, I don't. The reason being is that the new Series consoles use the same code base. What this allows developers to do is use a single set of code across the PC, Series X and S, and scale based on the hardware that is being used. I also see the Series S (at least from a first party perspective) get cloud support on those really big games (like Flight Sim and Forza).

I have a one X, I'm mostly only playing battlefeild 2042 right now and I'm disappointed that I can't play the 128 player rounds. Is the series S compatible with these rounds? Or am I better off waiting for the next generation of the series X?

  • @BusyDadGaming

The Series S can do the 128 player rounds. Digital Foundry did a piece on BF's performance so I'd check that out first and see if you're good with it.

Love this video! Thank you… I’m a gaming dad and really needed this video! Just a question. Is there any games you can’t play on the series S? I was told there’s games coming out you can’t play on the S but can play on the X. Any confirmation? And are all games from Xbox one backwards compatible with the S? Thank you

I haven't seen anything regarding the S and X not being able to play games from the this gen going forward. Phil Spencer has said that games will be for both the S and X moving forward. The One X will be left behind (which the initial stages of that happening have started). Games the One X was able to play, the Series S will be able to play as well. It will NOT play the Xbox One X enhanced versions of the games (which usually had better resolution and/or frame rates). The only other caveat are games that required the Kinect, those won't be playable on the Series S (which I don't know how many people actually still have a Kinect).

@@BusyDadGaming awesome!! Thank you so much! Subscribed btw! So a friend of mine works at GameStop ( i am taking his word lightly ) lol but he said that he was told some games were not going to be available on S that were on X. The only example he gave was a new Devil May Cry. I wasn’t sure but thanks to your video I will definitely be getting a Series S now! I don’t care too much for graphics and such but I just love playing games and having fun. Again thanks for the information. I will be taking a look at the rest of your videos later 🤟🏼 take care

Yeah, Spencer has been pretty clear that games moving forward will play on the Series S and X this generation. Obviously to different performances, but Devil May Cry 6 hasn't technically had any real news around it. There were rumors that it's a few years away at the earliest, which means I doubt it would be a PS4/One versioned game. Thanks for watching and subbing, greatly appreciated!

Yes there are games that u can't play on the series for example arkham origins. I can play it backwards compatibility on physical version only. That's the only one ik but there's many more. If u don't care about old games and only a few games in ur library then it's perfect but ur sacrificing 8 te flops of power and ur disc drive which is big for me.

I’m getting tired of hunting for an X. I’ve been serious about it for roughly 6 months now, and no matter how many times I try or how early I am to jump on deals, I can’t get one. For that reason alone, I’m thinking about getting an S and keeping my One X as well so I can play the One X optimized games/physical discs and have a next gen console for BF 2042. I’ve been debating this for weeks now, and as much as I’d like the X, it may be time to bite the bullet and get an S since I’m sick of playing the restock game with the X. That, and BF 2042 comes out next Friday, and I want to play the full size maps with 128 players.

That's def an option. Then when the Series X is more readily available, trade one of the consoles in towards the Series X. Getting a Series X is possible, but it's crazy amount of time and effort right now. That may be a little easier this holiday season, but we shall see.
