“If the jade is not cut and polished, it can’t be made into anything.”
- Chinese Proverb
Over the recent decade or so American and certain European journalists and politicians have taken rhetorical aim at China. Often their perceptions of events in China are either based on wrong information or else deliberately cast aspersions on anything the people of China undertake. The articles herein seek to dispel the hexes of ignorant writers. The people here are kind and welcoming. The culture here has depths of which one cannot find the bottom. There is virtually no crime, living is more modern and more convenient than elsewhere, and people take care of themselves and others. This is truly a place of social harmony.
This site is devoted to helping ‘western’ people better understand China. The articles herein aim to help stem the tide of hatred and vitriol welling up in America and Europe about China. I hope the insights people gain reading here can contribute to an appreciation of the beautiful culture I’ve found in China and prevent racism and national discrimination against China and the Chinese people. If you too are a fan of peace, please share this site with your friends.

I'm so glad I got the chance to challenge all those biased ideas I grew up into in the west, to see what this country is all about. I feel rich because I experienced two worlds in one life. I had no plans of coming to China, until back in 2018, a random American guy I met at the hostel we stayed in Malaysia, told me about getting a teaching job in China, then I thought about it, and give it a go. I had all the documents ready to obtain a working visa to China, got it within a month! (Working visa obtained at the Chinese consulate in Thailand while I was living there for a holiday) After landing in China, I though I would stay for a year to see what's it like. 4 years later, I am still in China and there is no way I would ever go back to my home country. Born and brought up in the UK, (family from UAE and Pakistan), I will never want to live in the UK after living in China. China is my home now. I can even get married abroad (in Pakistan), bring my spouse to China, which is so much easier than bring to the UK, UK will demand ridiculous amount of paperwork and it's not safe to live in the UK, especially for women. China is safe for spouses and families to live in. I plan to continue to stay in China as long as I want.

I once met an international student from a European country, and now he has worked in a company in China after graduation. I once asked him why he chose to stay and work in China? Why not go back to your country? After all, your country’s per capita GDP is higher than China’s. He told me the first reason is that China is full of opportunities for him. Secondly, life in China is very convenient and rich. Compared with his country, living in China is more like living in the 22nd century. I also asked him why Western society is so demonizing China? He told me that as far as his country is concerned, ordinary people who have never been to China do not understand China at all, while the upper-class elites understand China's development and changes today, but they cannot accept this reality psychologically.

Had to have a medical for each new school until 2010. Been here ever since and have no plans to leave. Love the friendly people, safety, cleanliness, cost of living and freedom to do things that I could not do in the U.K Now have a Spouse visa renewable yearly. A light reading. Professor Dennis Etler American political analyst who holds a doctorate in anthropology from the University of California, Berkeley As I See It: Why is it that the West is so preoccupied with China? The usual answer is that China's economic growth is challenging Western global hegemony which has held sway for at least 250 years. The Chinese military has also reached parity with that of the West, so it is no longer subject to Western intimidation and bullying. All that is true and reason for the West to want to savage China and portray it as the root of all evil. But there is one other consideration that must be taken into account. It's not only China's economic prowess and military might that frightens the West, it is also China's success as a nation versus the West's failure. Moreover, China has forged a society in which there is harmony between its different ethnicities in contrast to the systemic racism that characterizes Western society. Western ruling elites and their media mouthpieces do not want to acknowledge the fact that China has eliminated extreme poverty while more and more of their own people descend into poverty. They do not want to admit that China has constructed a 21st century infrastructure while they lag far behind. They do not want to confront the fact that the Chinese people ⁹overwhelmingly support their government while people in the West have lost confidence in their own, they do not want to accept that China beat COVIDC-19 while they haven't, and finally they are loathe to accept the fact that a non-white nation has out performed them and will continue to do so into the foreseeable future. In order to deflect attention away from these truths the West has concocted a series of lies and slanders that allow them to deny reality. Instead of poverty alleviation the West imagines "genocide." Instead of the advances in HSR, EVs, alt-energy and e-commerce they focus on "IP theft," instead of a socioeconomic system that serves the people, they accuse China of forced labor and forced sterilizations. Instead of seeing China as defending its national sovereignty in the South China Sea, Hong Kong and Taiwan, it's called an aggressor. All the China-bashing serves multiple purposes but ONE of the main reasons is to make sure that people in the West do not get to hear nor see what the real China is all about because if they did they may get ideas that the Western elites don't want then to have, such as socialism works for the betterment of the 99% while capitalism works primarily to enrich the 1%. This is the best one, do send this to your overseas friends because it is from the eyes of an American.

@@lesterchester8097 China actually needs to half it,s population because it needs a bit of sprawl. Once they half their population, they can then sprawl into the farmlands. Sprawling with 1.4 billion people is a lot worse than sprawling with 700 million people. With 1.4 billion people, you sprawl onto the farmlands and have 1.4 billion people to feed. Eating up a lot of farmland is bad in that scenario. Sprawling with 700 million people , you have half as many people to feed so you can sprawl into a third of your farmland. China,s population should be way less than it is now. 700 million less peoplei s a plus. And GDP per capita is more important than GDP. And just because the population halves does not mean GDP halves. If those 700 million people are 4 times as rich as when the population was 1.4 billion, GDP doubles. Also with 5g and industry 4.0, labor will become increasingly high tech meaning you can do the same job with half as many people while increasing productivity.

The concept of the Chinese is actually more of a sense of culture and identity. As long as you accept the Chinese cultural concept and identity, you can be a Chinese. You don’t need to have a specific skin color or ancestry! There are many Chinese in the world with different nationalities, but some people no longer identify with culture and identity, even if they have the same face and blood, they are not considered Chinese. In the United States, if you are not white, no matter how much you identify with their culture, How repulsive of your own skin color, white people always think you are an outsider, unless you have superior wealth and social status, like Obama.

As a Chinese living abroad I sometimes feel very lonely because my family is not here. Western people value privacy and personal life. So most coworkers will leave work and work relationships behind their mind while not in office. In contrast, coworkers tend to have a tighter bond in Chinese work environment. They can have more intimate conversations, hang out more often after work, etc. In western world, the only people you are going to socialize with after work is your family or some interest groups. I lack both relationships that's why I sometimes feel lonely. But I think I'm getting used to this single life because you have more freedom doing things you enjoy.

Just fall in real love, get married, get a spouse visa and take ur own sweet time looking for a suitable job, by which the company will have to apply for ur work visa, that's it. The crucial part is still to find that someone out there, that is meant for u.

Why didnt people like you go to weibo and revealed facts such these? Everybody and their dogs in China dream about going to America ot EU, why? It is really embarassing to see Trump rejected Chinese student from entering US universties, but Chinese students protested.. No losing face at all?

If u are a foreigner with light color skin and different hair color, u get treated differently. If u are a foreigner but look like them, or darker color, u will see the bad side of them. Regardless, I could not stand the way they drive (like 5 lanes in 3 lane road), and how they cut lines so I will not go back there anytime soon.

I was born in NZ, emigrated to Australia where I lived for 17 years, then moved to China and have been here over 15 years. I plan a new stage of life in Thailand later this year, I just cannot handle one more winter in Shanghai and the fact that nearly all of my friends have now left China. Some left due to work, some had been here a long time and wanted to slow down and move to their own countries, some due to the covid situation. Ever since about 2016 there has been a steady exit of foreigners from Shanghai, western themed pubs have been closing at a steady rate. I started playing in the pool league about 11 years ago, then there were 37 teams, now there is 14. Although the teachers are still here, most other occupations have gone, alot due to China learning from these people and then not being willing to pay those massive salary packages. I certainly have made a lot of friends in that time and look forward to visting them when i can. Its been a good part of my life and for the most part have really enjoyed it.

Hi buddy, I settled in Texas since 1991. I believe what you said. But most Americans would not believe you. They must assume Chinese government pay you to lie for them.

As an Asian who comes from a populated country and study in the US. I have been to Chicago, Wisconsin, Ohio, SF, Washington and New York. The only place that is alive in USA is New York. The rest of the cities even Chicago everything closes by 6 pm. The choice to go out after 6pm is Chinatown or Koreatown or whatever town and the mall. That's about it.

Well family is important to a lot of people, and some people just maybe cannot connect to the local community. These are all reasons why people would want to go back. Because they miss the hometown and the life they have been used to .

China is very much a homogeneous society, and unlike many countries, you don’t get to become Chinese nationals by being born nor can you get naturalised by marrying to the locals. You can however become nationals if you can prove and have evidence that you have Chinese ancestry. But I think recently there were a few Brazilian footballers that were naturalised for their football skills 😂

Question: how to prove ancestry? I don't have my grandpa grandma birth certificate. I only have slit eyes, which proves nothing 😅

The Canadian commute system is the worst among the advanced countries , mostly relying on buses in cities to move people around. Also living cost is among the top 5 expensive cities in the world. Do not come to Canada
