    I mentioned it on Tavarish' video as well but at least the cell-block design and battery interface module could very well be from Super B batteries (The Netherlands). I worked for them as an engineer. They also make starter batteries for Koenigsegg, Lotus and I think the Valkyrie (this ran while I was there). Can message/email you names of at least the lead engineer and owner (who is quite involved in motorsport and online).

    I'm here to preach the Gospel of Jesus Christ to anyone that needs Saving: this is to anyone with a heart that is open and wants to go to Heaven. You will not go to Heaven without Jesus. There is no other religion, or person, who can give you an afterlife in Heaven. You might not understand this, but, without this forgiveness, and without Jesus, you will go to Hell. I, too, was on my way to Hell. Jesus died for you, and for me, on a cross, on a hill, in a place in Israel called Calvary almost 2,000 years ago. This is the single most important event in all of human history because Jesus was God come down from Heaven, taking on a body, and atoning for the worlds ever-growing number of sins. Many, many sins of which you are guilty of personally. He then was buried, and, supernaturally, was physically raised from His tomb, and brought to Heaven by God, the Father. Even as we speak, without the perfect forgiveness of the only True Son of God given to humanity there would be no way to live perfectly in Heaven forever, nor escape God's righteous judgement, nor be reconciled with God: this is why we need Jesus. If you understand this need, the real depth of your need to regain a relationship with God (and how far we've fallen from God's original plan of perfect love), then say: "I accept Jesus". If you are ready to change your life and make improvements (the Holy Spirit helps you) in your following of the laws that originally governed the Earth when the God of Heaven first created us, then say: "I accept Jesus". If you know you have misused your free-will, even once in your life, then say "I accept Jesus". If you are ready to soften your heart and accept the Lord, Jesus, the Christ, into your heart, and go to Heaven... then you will be 'born-again': this is all you need to again be allowed to enter God's kingdom and be in Paradise with Him one day. It's offered to all, but accepted by few. I have given you all the necessary information: pray to God: "Jesus, thank You for dying for my sins. I want to change my life starting today. You alone are my God, and I want to live a life worthy of a citizen of Heaven before it's too late before I miss the opportunity. Help me, Jesus. I accept Your love with my faith. Save me, I give You my life. Thank you." The most recent 2019 Global Illness is just the start of our being controlled by world leaders, it's not going to get better, and we all need to begin our spiritual preparation now: don't wait until the last minute and miss going to Heaven. The Bible is God's word, a great resource. Thank you for the opportunity to share my love, and the inconvenient truth, of Jesus with you all. There's no sin too great for the heart that is willing to repent and change their life, and start a relationship, a relationship as real as the nose on your face, with the LIVING God. God bless you. Watch NDE's and the Hidden Code in Genesis 1:1 to confirm what I am telling you!

Only to destroy them (excuses about natural disasters, Hurricanes blah blah should not be accepted in reality) through complete false ignorance, you live in a hurricane prone area you shouldn't have any excuse to blame it!! So such exuberantly priced car ruined, no going, no operation, kaput!! How then is a PAPERWEIGHT able to be sold for over 500k??? No one is interested in educating themselves, they gave up learning ages ago this fact is far too obvious! Rebuilding for almost everyone is really outdated, throwing away is the trend now!! Take this battery for example. It was submerged completely in water & caught fire without the fuses blowing!! In a multi million dollar car!! How much money equates to quality or truth these days, as like Pfizer, no company will ever hold any responsibility!!!

    Lots of good info in this video. I think a simple way to go would be to buy the old battery pack from someone who upgraded their P1 battery. Then re-use the controller from the old battery and replace the crappy cells with modern 18650 cells. You end up with a system that will work and could be either much lighter or have much more energy for the same weight. This is one cool project. I hope you stay involved and post the progress on this project.

    A lot of people don't know, but those A123 cells seem in this video are special. They are designed for very high power relative to their storage capacity, which is necessary for a hybrid performance car. Typically lithium batteries can put out about 10 amps per 1 amp hour of storage capacity, whereas the A123 cells should be capable of ~6 times that as far as I know.

  • @plektosgaming

    @plektosgaming

    5 ай бұрын

    @@julianbrelsford It's still wasted time and money. I get it that McLaren was trying to make a supercar experience and buffer the massive turbo lag with the hybrid system, but better engineering was what was really needed. Personally I'd have gone with a supercharger as it solves many problems. Turbos are good when you want to potentially save some weight and get good fuel economy, neither of which matter in this application. Mercedes, for instance, has several high-end cars with superchargers for this reason. More power, better delivery, and oh well, if MPG is your goal, maybe you can't afford this car. lol. An extra 50kg for a supercharger seems a prudent choice, IMO, versus a hybrid battery system. But McLaren went with turbos, so.. we'll see how undrivable Freddie's version is when he doubles the power. ;)

    As part of the team who originally developed the P1 hybrid system there are a couple of important points to add! 1) we did this back starting in 2010! Back then, everything was new, nothing was commerically available, we had to develop EVERYTHING, from the battery structure, the BMS hardware and software, the integration, the motor controller and the motor itself. Yeah, today in 2023 those things are a lot easier, now not only can you buy a lot of these things off-the-shelf you can also buy the tools to develop them. In 2010 for example you simply could buy a HV DC battery simulator of the required capacity (and certinaly not in the lead times necessary for this project) so we had to make our own! This pushes the engineering costs up massively, which brings me on too: 2) The "cost" of an automotive part is NOT dominated by it's BOM cost, and especially for low volume projects where it is the amortisation of the engineering cost and homologation / certification that is by FAR the larger contributor. Yes, you can buy all the parts to build your own version of the P1 battery for around £20k (again, this is £20k today, in 2011, the cells alone were 4 times the cost!!!) but then get it worldwide certified to REG100, REG10 UN38.4 and the multitude of US market FMVSS standards and the cost skyrockets. Then you have to look at the productionisation, logistics chain, waranty and durability, again, many millions of $$$ gets swallowed up! So, could you make a "better" P1 battery in 2023, hell yeah, would it be cheaper, probably not in absolute terms, maybe in inflation adjusted terms, but is the original battery a rip off? HELL NO 🙂

  • @piedpiper1172

    @piedpiper1172

    I agree with you 100%; On the initial purchase of the car. That P1 was already purchased from McLaren at retail cost by its first owner-that purchase already covered those fixed costs (and all fixed costs for the P1). As you said, all of it is certified and proven. Replacement batteries, which definitionally only go into cars that were at some point purchased new from McLaren, are now only the marginal cost of components, Assembly, verification & delivery. Doubly so since that $126k doesn’t cover the labor that will be done by McLaren (for all but this one swimming special edition) to install it.

    The reason those fuses didn't blow is because the elictricity wasn't going through the metal contacts but instead through the salt water through the battery. Additionally those fuses are commically large so they need a fairly massive amount of power to go through them before they blow. slowly leaking electricity through salt water isn't going todo it. You'd need a special type of breaker called a gfci breaker that detects when small amounts of electricity is leaking to ground. Normal breakers just don't pop in those circumstances.

    They clearly put it in there not only to look "modern" and because F1 technology and all of that, but because the thing without it has a massive spot of turbo lag that needs covering or a whole new engine design to deal with it. With him just boosting it even more and getting rid of it, I predict old 911 Turbo levels of sideways and panic at full throttle, especially around corners. As for me? I would put the system back in with modern lighter and smaller components. Drives the same, easy to swap out/not wedged in there,, much less cost, faster charging.. all around better and doesn't mess with the way it drives. Half the weight as well. All of this is aside from the bit elephant in the room, which is reprogramming it to NOT use the hybrid system.

    I want the hybrid drivetrain to stay.... At minimum, if you rebuild the pack with 32700's instead of the original 32113, you could potentially increase the pack's capacity from 1512Ah, to either 3276Ah or 3640Ah, (of course, that depends on how the overall pack is wired). Losing 43mm off the length of the batteries would mean that you could move from 5 'packs' to 9 (for a slightly smaller overall package) or 10 (if you want to go with a slightly larger overall package), which is where the 3276Ah and 3640Ah come in. Combine with advances in DC fast charging and a brushless motor (assuming the original used a brushed motor), and it would not surprise me if you could increase the mileage range into the high 30's or low 40's, with the stock 9minute charge time. At that point, the EV mode becomes ALOT more realistic (and potentially ALOT more fun.

Granted, that much of an increase would increase the car's weight by about 25kg, but that can be accounted for with a much more efficient motor. The 400lb savings will make the car faster, with better handling, but the MPG will go up so in the end it'll have a better range anyhow. EVs/hybrids are more about marketing gimmicks and government grants than anything practical

    @@realzyxtomatic The car's ECU can easily be spoofed into thinking that it's getting a reading from the battery pack for example. Almost all automotive gauges and sensors run off of a 0-5v feedback. The resistance change takes it from a full 5 volts to 0 volts with more resistance. The other forms of feedback are basic as well, they all use a form off a hall effect. A hall effect sensor can also be easily spoofed using a simple transistor. The bottom line is that the car's ECU can be fooled with about $20 in parts and it'll never even throw a trouble code. The EV and hybrid vehicles are only being built because of massive government subsidies and tax loopholes made to push the EV market. They are more expensive to build, cause real environmental harm (not the boogyman C02) and have practical use only in certain climates and for certain uses. EVs are a niche that is being propped up with government money and sold as a marketing gimmick as a perfect thing. Try driving one outside of a large city and outside of a set commute/predictable use. Or try to drive them on the Gulf Coast or East Coast where it's common to need a vehicle that can drive through a bit of water. Or try to drive them when it's sub-freezing and your range gets cut in half (if you're lucky!). These are problems with a brand new Tesla with all of the latest and greatest batteries etc. I personally like that Teslas and other EVs are fast, I personally like the idea of them on clear days for someone doing a predictable daily commute. They have their place, but the idea that they can replace every vehicle on the road with an EV is delusional. The infrastructure and power grid alone make this a non starter. The inability to take trips, even a few hours away make this a non starter. Batteries degrading over time is another obvious reality that gets ignored. But the marketing gimmick supercedes all of these things somehow. Just think of any battery that you've ever used, from a regular car battery to cellphones or laptops or anything else and think of what happens after 3-5 years. Those battery companies have been trying to make them last longer as well.

I also worked in a garage for 15 years after that and every car part is highly over inflated in price, when Honda and Rover were in partnership the same shared parts were twice as dear for the ones in a Honda box. Spoofing canbus isn't rocket science, and while it would be hard to develop... there IS a market for replacing these batteries at some point and if it's going to be 150k from McLaren having a demonstrably better pack available for half the price it would definitely tempt some owners and you could recoup the costs of development with only a few sales. The matter of fact is that this isn't impossible, there is a guy out there in youtube that reverse engineered the AMG can bus (RAND_ASH) he alone replaced the original infotainment for a screen being run from a small PC all this with can bus reverse engineering, all depends on how obscure this info is to get.

    I totally agree, Tavarish is building the motor to have considerable hp which in itself eliminates the need for that over complicated hybrid system. It might take away from the value substantially though so there is that to consider. If he plans on keeping the car long term, then forget the E system! 👍😎✌🗽

    Best advice Tavarish ever got on the P1 was to ditch the hybrid system. Save 400lb, and only lose 6 miles of electric range? That is a no-brainer.

    Might I recommend high voltage protection gloves should be worn with a cloth liner and have leather over them. One prick and it doesn't do any good. I work in wireline telecom and we wear them for protection from power

    cranking the boost wouldnt help that much as the main issue in the p1 is it widow maker characteristics (lack of grip) one good reason for having a hybrid system is the 4wd with toque vectoring. however i dont think it is worth it to design a new system unless you go ground up some how which is way more money

    Unlike LaFerrari, P1 and 918 are heavily turbocharged, with turbochargers that are too big for their engines alone and optimized for the top end power. This is why LaFerrari isn't plug-in... it can work perfectly fine even without electric part and uses hybrid system just to recover braking energy and give an extra boost where possible. Both P1 and 918 are plug-in hybrids as they always need charge in their batteries for normal function. They depend on hybrid system to pull the car through lower RPM range until turbos spool-up. Which is why hybrid system can't be removed from the car..... I mean, car would work but it would be awful and unbalanced to drive with engine left as is, and even worse with Freddy's plan to go for more top-speed and top-end power. For more usable power curve, smaller turbos would be needed, but then you loose top-end and realistically.... for that he could have just bought 12C.

  • @RogerM88
    @RogerM888 ай бұрын

    I also share Rich opinion about the P1 rebuild. Fred should build up the engine with stronger internal parts as bigger turbos, and drop the hybrid system. It could actually increase over time it value, than just a salvaged P1, with a pimp my ride rebuild.

  • @Koziolrh

    The issue is how to bypass the car's software that expects the hybrid to be there. Also what about a starter and other things that the hybrid does? Non trivial things.

  • @RogerM88

    @RogerM88

    @@Koziolrh Fred could replace the starter with a dedicated EV system. And use electronics from the 720S. If Fred wants to rebuild the car back to stock, he will probably need plenty of electronics specific to the P1, which will add high costs. Simpler things as the dashboard and multiple modules that communicates with the ECUs.

  • @RogerM88

    @RogerM88

    @@Koziolrh building the P1 back to stock could be not economically viable, even with all the KZread revenue and sponsors. So Fred needs to do a decision, or attempt to return to stock specs and deal with the electronics as exclusive parts to the P1. Or chose to go with the custom route, and adapt parts from other McLarens as the 720S. In a long term economical point of view, dropping the hybrid system, adapting electronics from other McLarens, build the engine, as custom ECUs, could be more interesting. Than a salvage P1, with a custom hybrid system, that could need refurbishment along the years.

    Apparently you've not watched Freddy's videos on the p1? The engine is being built, with 100% upgraded internals, turbos, everything that can be upgraded so that it won't fail when he adds HP like the stock ones do.

    I def understand going without the hybrid system, but i also understand Freddy wanting to figure out a hybrid system that works lol. Being able to say its better or at least as good as the original and he didnt cut corners, thats kinda Freddy's thing. And he has Leno and those McLaren shops helping him, so plenty of data to go over, not to mention i feel like a piggyback ECU and some value spoofing, maybe a software dev or someone wanting to jump on board, could not only solve it but possibly make it even better than the OG or the ICE alone. But id def understand him going either way, or finishing it with just the ICE and adding a hybrid system later once he finds a streamlined solution. Who knows, hes crazy and crafty enough to figure it out for sure.
