Manu is only one of two players in basketball history that has won Euroleague title, NBA title and Olympic gold medal. Other one is Bill Bradley, and he is already a Hall of Fame member.

It's been a storybook and a privilege to see Manu's entire career. For regular people, life is what happens around you. In 50 years no one will care, and in 100 years no-one will notice u were here. But for me, my Life involved getting to see Manu from his days prior to Spurs even, when he was in Argentina to now. And then as now it was incredibly moving to see Manu arrive in San Antonio, and forge a relationship with Pop and help The Spurs develop the legacy they have. Without a shadow of a doubt, without Manu, Spurs would have 1 guaranteed ring and MAYBE two. He was instrumental in their winning, as he was the deposing the US, if only for a moment, of basketball glory. A winner in life and a legend. Fan-tastic. Salut, Manu.

Everyone forgets to mention the biggest Coach Pop quote on Manu... "I have stopped training Manu Ginobili for years..." Meaning that Manu is so amazing and unique that it doesn't make sense to even tell him how to play... you just let the wild dog loose and you watch the opponent's annihilation with an evil grin on your face... Coach Nick, I thought you of all people would have found that quote... come on... :)

he's underrated. people generally sees bench players as inferior to starters, but not manu. he's a sixth man but probably better than at least 2 or 3 starters in his respected team.

Manu cared more about sharing the ball with his teammates than personal accolades. He also could have easily been chosen as an NBA Finals MVP back in '05. A once in a lifetime player. Definitely first ballot HoF.

I hated Manu and the Spurs back in the day because they keep dominating my Suns haha. He sacrificed so much for that Spurs team, he could've been easily a franchise player on different team, but he chose his sixth man role in the Spurs. Harden is just a poor man's Ginobili with no defense, that's how great Manu is.

Manu was a key member for a franchise that won 4 NBA championships. Hands down a first ballot HOF player.

It just hit me, the a era of the Spurs is gone. For the longest I've seen Duncan, Parker and Ginobili playing together and now its over.

I'm not crying, you're crying! Growing up a rockets fan, I despised the spurs, but Manu was always one of my favorite players to watch. Incredible intensity. I will never forget that dunk on Yao, but more importantly the block on Harden in the semi-finals. What a fucking legend.

To me the most exciting player in the NBA for all his years ... my favorite player, awesome person from all I have heard and read too. Thanks GINO, loved when you beat the USA in the Olympics too.

Ginobili was so sick with it, one of my favorite players of all time, and for most of his career he came off the bench! He was such a competitor, and selfless. He was such a amazing player to me that to this day his jersey is the only sports jersey i own!

He's the reason I ever watched the NBA in the first place; the reason why I came to know the Spurs; the reason people ask me why I'm "a Spurs fan living in the Bay Area". Thanks for introducing me to the game of basketball, thank you, Manu! GINOBILIIIII!!!!

I’m glad you didn’t really bring numbers into this because they skew the conversation in favor of the naïve naysayers. Manu leading his national team over a USA team that had AI and Duncan in their primes, young LeBron, Melo, and DWade enroute to a gold medal is the clincher for me.

No, you're an idiot if you reject the numbers. Manu's stats - in context - were fucking amazing. He didn't get huge per-games, but players can get big per-games playing big minutes for bad teams. Manu got an awful lot done in sixth man minutes playing with Duncan and Parker, to say nothing of many other great role players the Spurs almost always had. Manu's numbers were legitimately awesome. WS/48 mins, PER, ORtg, DRtg Net Rtg, per-100 possessions...THAT'S what to look at. Look at stats that put all players on equal footing.

Don't get why people said the Spurs were boring to watch from 2005-2016. Sure Timmy was just the GOAT fundamental player but you had Manu and Tony doing the craziest moves and then you had Boris Diaw playing point center and then Kawhi playing like an MVP candidate in 2016.

Yes, of course, it was beautiful to watch. And it was a family that had it's own personality. Sometimes today the team only means the jersey they used. Because theya re a bunch of stars that change from team to team every two years and dont care a shit about the city they represnt, they only want to upgrade their personal skills.

Ginobili is just one of the best ever to play this game, he decided to play for Spurs with a 6th man role, but if he would choose to play in any other team being franchise player, he would be a 30ppg man, easily 8 times MVP. He is pure talent, pure legend.

But the most important thing was not if he started playing or how many minutes he went, but that if the game was complicated, Spurs always ended up with him on the court, and almost always with him on the last ball. Manu could lead the second line as the first, as indeed he did on numerous occasions. In 2010 and 2011 he was the best spurs in RS MVP rankings ahead of Duncan and Parker. in 2008 it was the second best Spurs in the MVPs ahead of Duncan. His stats for 36 minutes surpass those of Tony Parker in almost everything (points, rebounds, steals, blocks). your shooting percentages for free thows and 3pts too. Your clutch win percentage too. Manu was 6men because the Spurs could afford to have two key players throughout the entire game. in any other team in the NBA. Manu would have been a clear option to the MVP as it was in 2011,(8°, the only year since 2007 until his retirement in which he played as started). I'm not going to decor 8 MVP (insane estatement, not even MJ did it) but it would have been an option one or twice for sure.

The usual knock against Manu is his stats, but you are not looking in the right place. It is in the playoffs where the Spurs take off the restraints and he puts off all-NBA numbers against the league's best competition. He is top 30 all time in all career playoff small man stats and top 100 all time in the big man stats. Look at the 2005 Finals for his finest work. While you may think 18 pts a game is small time, consider that this was a Pistons/Spurs defensive slug fest with final scores in the 70s and 80s. Manu will be sorely missed here in SA. Hope he starts his coaching career here real soon.

Johnny U. The only reason he might not have been able to is due to his play style. He was so reckless with his body that he got injured frequently, which is a reason that Pop kept him as a 6th man his whole career. I'm surprised he lasted as long as he did.

Prime Manu was very similar to Kobe. I have no doubt his numbers would be fantastic and would have lead any team to at least one ring.

I think coach Nick was not trying to open a question of Manu's eligibility for HOF, but to portray a career and talent I feel he deeply admires. Manu is easily a top-20 all-time guy in books of those who like to see basketball played the right way.

Even if he’s not. I’ve seen him play a bunch of times luckily and he’s a once in a lifetime player. Him, Kobe, LeBron and Kyrie were the most exciting.

Dynasty doesn't need to be consecutive wins. It just means a domination (not necessarily complete domination) of a certain era. Let me put it this way: Post jordan's bulls, the spurs are tied with the lakers for the most championships to this day. (5 each). If lakers was a dynasty, so was the spurs. And jordan's bulls aren't that out of reach either with 6 championships.

Ive followed my hometown Spurs since their ABA days with George Gervin and Co and must say 1998 - 2019 has been quite the run and a "dynasty" in anyone's book. Without Manu....No dynasty. No Legacy....no Nada! Perhaps a Championship or two. The NBA, not just the Spurs owe Manu his due recognition as one of the best, most exciting 6th man ever and a definitive first ballot HOF'er!!

This is the first Manu highlights video/docuvid that I've ever watched, and I must say, the production was outstanding and the evidence speaks for itself.

How great Tim,Duncan,Greg Popovich,Tony Parker and the rest of the entire spurs organization had to be to convince him tha is the best for him to come from the bench and be 6th man pretty much his entire career. He won championships,made some all-star games etc but around 2007-08 if he wanted he could've gone somewhere and they would give him the keys of the new team. His stats would be much better,mainstream fans would appriciate him more etc. Who knows maybe as a first option he could do some damage in the playoffs also and made a nice run with his own team. He really really had to love the spurs to stay in that position.

And it's true that saying that Manu was the sole leader for ten years straight is very unfair to Luis. Yet, it is probably more unfair to Manu, saying that Luis was. Scola was not mature enough to be a starter in Indianapolis, and he didn't have a great tournament. While Manu lead the team in scoring and assists. As in the 04 Olympics, and the 06 world cup. Then from Beijing 08 on, it would be fair to say they were both as important (one in the perimeter, in in the frontcourt). But I'm glad someone gives Scola his proper recognition.

Estoy de acuerdo, Scola fue el verdadero capitán de Argentina por personalidad y por jugar SIEMPRE. Manu fue el mejor jugador de la historia y el más importante en el juego (aunque no se hubiese podido ganar sin Scola, Nocioni, Oberto y Pepe Sánchez, ninguno era prescindible). Pero si tenemos memoria nos acordamos de que Manu no jugaba los torneos clasificatorios mientras que Scola sí. Seguramente (como pasa con Messi) en el resto del mundo lo quieren más que nosotros porque somos críticos de nuestros ídolos siempre. Aunque Manu haya trascendido el deporte.

That of the sixth player is crap. Pop protected him because he is only 1.96 and fight against players of 2.20 stronger than him all the matches had destroyed their body. With the clever plan of pop he could play with all his talent until 40 years.

The reason why he came off the bench is because some guys who should've come off the bench instead (Turkoglu, Finley, RJ) sucked at it, and other guys were kept for 3-and-D purposes (Bowen, Udoka, Hill). Manu only truly deserved to be on the bench when he got old and Danny Green and Kawhi Leonard became the starting wings.

I don't know why we have to discusses this. Manu is one of the most brilliant player of last 15 years in basketball, he has been consistent all his carreer and never envolved on beef or act like a "bad guy". I'm from Brazil, and the rivalry between us and Argentina its one of the biggest in the history, in every sports, but Ginobili its the type of guy that everybody have to recognize your majestry. This brought a tear to my eyes :'(

And no matter how huge a dunk, how stupidly ridiculous a pass, or how amazing a defensive play, he never taunted, motioned towards his groin, demeaned an opponent, or did anything other than display class and respect. Also, Manu has to be the all time leader in game winning defensive plays: the block on Harden, the charge from JR Smith, and others.
