Answer: Politicians have no political rewards and it takes away the power from unions and politicians.
It's absolutely necessary to have some national standard to make sure that an average citizen have the basic knowledge to operate in a civilized society, especially in case of those students who supposed to work for the public sector, in which case there have to be a solid institution which organizes a state-program where the students are tested at least once in their life, but outside of that, the public schools are completely unnecessary, and the private schools are doing a much better job at preparing the students for such a test in case of parents who are incapable of home-schooling their children, so long as there are the education-vouchers.

What about poor parents that can’t drive their kids to private schools or rural areas with few to no private schools? As far as I know private schools don’t usually provide bussing. And do private schools provide free breakfast and lunch? Free clubs and sports? At the end of the day private schools are a business and do not have the kids as their first priority.

@@faithfulpoet2810 The great thing is, that vouchers can be used to organize a school whenever there is a community and demand, without need for an urban centre, or governments infrastructure. and such a school have a chance to compete and succeed against any other school, that's the beauty of market-solutions.
