usain was 20- 21 when he ran the world record you run the fastest typically younger so he dosn't have unlimited time he has 5 years in my book after that I can't see him breaking anything

He is one of them. You also have one man currently the World Champion at 100 & 200 meters, you have to include him as one.

For us in Africa Tebogo has done enough, yes I'm glad that he is working hard and making the most of his talent but you know he doesn't have to be the best cause we won't love him any less. He is already a legend in my book.

Short Answer - Yes! But at the risk of being that person, it's important to point out that his 30.69/44.29 PBs were run at favourable high altitude in Pretoria, SA & roughly converts to still impressive 31.00/44.60 PBs when adjusted for altitude. We actually have a generation of talented combo sprinters in Michael Norman (9.86/19.70/43.45), Fred Kerley (9.76/19.76/43.64), Kenny B (9.89/19.68/44.73) & even Steven Gardiner (10.35/19.75/31.52/43.48), but unfortunately, they all haven't run each of the 4 sprints enough times in an attempt to join that very small & prestigious sub 10/20/31/44s club & don't look like they're going to :( We also arguably have the best ever group of 20/21yr old 100/200m sprinters in Letsile Tebogo (9.88/19.50), Erriyon Knighton (10.04/19.49), Udodi Onwuzurike (9.92/19.76) & depending on his situation Issam Asinga (9.89/19.97) - the rivalry between all 4 over the next decade will be a lot of fun!!!

Apparently the altitude advantage over the 300 and 400 is not as beneficial as it is in the 100 and 200. His 300 time is actually around a tenth slower at normal altitude and not as high as 31

@@panashenhavira7116 That's literally wrong as the reverse is true - altitude advantage in your time increases as you go up from the 60m to the 400m. It then becomes a disadvantage for events above 400m!

It's harder to compare those for sure. Even though I'm Canadian, I'd have to go with Michael Johnson, despite him losing to Bailey in the 150m. Bailey I don't think is in the top 10 100m all-time list anymore, while MJ is still 4th in 200m & 2nd in 400m, so I'd say MJs times were superior.

@@richardgallimore5976 yeah mj 200m was the equivalent to a 9.65 100m and in 1996 the 100m world record was 9.84 then you have to factor in he had the olympic record of 43.49(2nd fastest time ever at the time) before he ran 200m so just imagine if he had all the steam for just 200m

Barring any injuries, it is looking like tebogo is gonna dominate the next era of sprinting. I will still keep my eye on Knighton, I still think he is destined for great things in the 200m.

Its criminal that you didnt mention Michael Johnson at all as one of the greatest sprinters of the 90s. Considering he was competing against Bailey and Fredericks and Bolton. His resume says it all. Yes he did not break 10. But arent the 200 and 400 sprint events?

The question is can he win titles against the best runners in the world? Until he does that he is just another runner with the potential to be great. Good Luck to the kid because I feel that iron sharpens iron.

Yeah I think Tebogo will get a few 200s under 19.4 and while I do think he has the capability to break Bolt’s world record I think if he does he won’t smash it and he’ll either edge it out or miss it all together. But I don’t think he’s currently in shape to do it and he still has a lot of conditioning to do before he can grace 19.19. I definitely don’t think lyles is going to approach Bolt’s record as he’s getting bulkier and I think that’ll make him slower over the 200.

Tebogo seems like a great talent, but don't hand him the crown before he has earned it. He has not won a single major international championship, and last year he ranked 7th in the world in the 100m and 2nd in the 200m. He is young and I'm sure he will improve, but we will have to see how far he ascends.

Wait you almost forgot to mention Noah Lyles! Cmon man. Tebogo may have a higher ceiling but we can’t say that yet!!

Ben Johnson > Carl Lewis > Linford Christie for that generation imo. Maurice for sure for his. Usain Bolt > Yohan Blake > Tyson Gay = Gatlin = Powell for the most recently finished & greatest generation. This is if we're only looking at 100 though. If we're talking overall sprinter I'd say Michael Johnson > Maurice Greene even. 200m & 400m WR trumps just the 100m WR. Also it took way longer for MJs WRs to fall than for Greene's. I do think Tebogo is the most talented of the upcoming sprinters. "Talent" though is kind of subjective, like maybe Gatlin was more talented naturally than Tyson Gay, but Tyson Gay worked harder (or vice versa), who's to know?

I think it will be the next bolt he is the man who will come out of nowhere and overshadow the careers of everyone of that era.. i think tebogo will erase lyles kerley and coleman Bolt came and basically finished powel, gay, gatlin and blake. And what's more, everyone believes, or at least most of them, that Lyles will dominate the upcoming Olympic games.. I believe that the little one will be the big star in these Olympic games, especially in the 200 meters, starting his own golden era. In closing, I will say that if there is one person who will break Bolt's records, it will be him !!

If we are talking about Tebogo 2024 times im thinking 9.75 for the 100m 19.10 for the 200m 43.80 for the 400m..its just my guess..🤷‍♂️

I was going to leave a note in the video that I was focusing on sprinters who had top 100m pedigree but if ignoring the lack of 100m titles and focusing on 200/400 then Michael Johnson is definitely up there for the era with Maurice Greene

Probably gonna be unpopular opinion but the most talented sprinter of this generation has got to be Grant Holloway. If not the best he’s definitely up there

you just dont see this ability to hold on in a race (strength) while also being able to accelerate truly similar to bolt

Those great 300-400 times might be an indicator that his training isn’t focused enough to maximize his 100-200m potential.

Blake had two good years. And only won 100m gold because bolt false started. You have to give Gatlin 2nd best in the 2010-20 era. His medals don’t lie. He medalled in every major from 2012-2019 in 100m.

I do not know why these commentators/podcasters keep repeating this lie about Bailey running under 11 seconds while still in high school. Unless he ran it downhill, with an illegal tail wind, during practice, there is no possible way he could have done so. Even today, a 16 year old high schooler running 10.65, especially in a high school meet, in Ontario, arguably the sprint center of Canada, would be a nationally newsworthy occurance. Additionally, for someone who had such talent, how is it that he was unable to qualify for OFSSAA, our provincial championships, at a time when track was in its golden era, due to the exploits of Ben Johnson. Also, no one even knew who he was, prior to 1990, when he was miraculosly able to break 11 seconds, for the first recorded time... nothing unusual there..😅
