Your videos are always fantastic!

A lot of people throw around the tired 'compliment' of an artist being the "best female songwriter" or "female genius" etc. but Kate Bush is a GENIUS pure and simple, no qualification needed. I absolutely adore her artistry and am equally mystified and accepting of her lack of recognition in the U.S. because, let's face it, we're a simple-minded lot.

Kate didn't do any promotion or performances in the U.S. market with the exception of SNL in 1978 -- that's how I became a lifelong fan. People just didn't know who she was.

I fully agree with this. I get the same irritation when those accolades are attributed to Joni Mitchell. The qualification "female" is utterly redundant. Joni and Kate are just genius song writers whose work can stand alongside that of any man.

Kate has always felt unreal to me. She seems to have qualities that lie outside those of a normal person. “What were your biggest musical inspirations?" "The blackbird and the thrush." Almost scary, more like a mysterious character from a fantasy novel. Maybe she really is Cathy.

Kate Bush is my idol! Got turned on to her with Running up that Hill in the eighties and have been listening to all her albums since! I agree that Hounds of Love is the most complete album as a storyteller. I do have specific cuts that I love on each of her albums. Rubber band girl, sensual world, waking the witch, jig of life. She embodies the title of musical artist.

As of right now, June 10, 2022, "Running Up That Hill (A Deal With God)" is number 8 on the Billboard Hot 100, so that is now her highest posting single in the USA. It is really weird seeing the song rise again after 37 years, on a list with Harry Styles, Lizzo, Bad Bunny, and Justin Bieber. You are right that young people of today are yearning for something better than the garbage they are served up. When they hear Kate, or Steely Dan, or Joni Mitchell, etc, they get completely overwhelmed. They have no idea what it is possible for music to contain, because they've never heard it

Proof that the 80s are back

Being a fan of Kate Bush is different than being a fan of many other artists. Liking her music, at least for me, feels like being in love with her. I'm still enamored with her beauty. She's so unique, so odd and free that she seems otherworldly and her music certainly sounds like nothing else out there. She's true to herself and so wonderfully expressive, smart, kind, pretty, etc. Quite lovely.

Oh yes, probably my biggest celebrity crush ever! :-) I'd known her and her Music since '78, when her debut album was released (I was 8 then), but it was only in '89 that I totally fell in love with her, after discovering the 'Hounds Of Love' and 'The Whole Story' LP's in my sister's collection and borrowing them :-)

The other day I heard someone describe her music as bewitching! I thought this was the perfect word to describe what her music does. I can’t describe the way her music makes me feel. I just know that she makes me extremely emotional. She’s the only singer/artist to make me feel this way. So I totally get what you mean when you talk about being in love with her.

Interesting to compare Kate to Madonna, who is the same age. Madonna is infinitely wealthier, but Kate is infinitely more talented (except, it would seem, at making money!) Despite being the same age, Kate became famous at a younger age than Madonna. Interesting also to compare their respective concepts of female sexuality. Both were kind of raunchy at times and used their sexuality in songs, but Madonna just comes across, as I think Elton John once said, as a "cheap whore", while Kate seems to be many guys secret crush!

@@Heartwing37 Interestingly EMI were really concerned after the album the Dreaming (the one prior or Hounds of Love) was a relative commercial flop. It was VERY experimental and more like something Philip Glass would compose. EMI was immensely relived that the singles off Hounds of love were a huge success. (Listen to the amazing the Sensual World - the track This Woman’s Work is sublime and then the album after “the red shoes” and the track “moments of pleasure” will make you weep as it is so beautiful.

December 9th, 1978 Eric Idle was hosting SNL while I was staying at my cousin's house in Portland, Maine. I was so entranced with Kate "The Man With The Child In His Eyes" I SHOOK my cousin awake --YOU HAVE TO SEE THIS!!! We were forever hooked. A few weeks later my younger cousin Liz gave me Kate's first album for Christmas. I'm a beloved fan of more than 40 years.

While getting to number 30 on the Billboard Hot 100 is nothing to turn your nose up at as still a hit, I think it should of got at least in the top 20 there However it did get top 10 + 20 in many countries as a single, And same with the hit album-Hounds of Love

@@tmage23 - Yes, she definitely has been very successful across Europe, including Germany, where I grew up; I've been living in New Zealand since 2002, and it's the same as the US that most people know her 'Wuthering Heights' and 'Running Up That Hill'. I wonder why that is?! You suggested lack of touring, but Kate had stopped touring already at a very early stage in her career! Unless of course things are different in the US and touring is crucial for an artist to establish a fan base :-)

To me, there are 2 female artists who I love beyond all: Kate and Aretha Franklin. Aretha's arrival (finally) in the late 60's and her magnificent voice changed the way women were perceived and overwhelmed us with her power. Kate's arrival in the late 70's/early 80's, while not as popular in the US as Franklin, made the concept of a totally self-contained writing/singing/producing genius possible and her influence is felt in so many artists as the Professor of Rock mentioned. I regret I've never seen either of these wonderful artists live and in-person. However, I treasure their music and Kate's albums constantly astound me no matter how many times I listen to them.

Hell yes! She's a total goddess.

Man, Kate Bush. She is the full package and in my book, she ranges at the same level as or above David Bowie and I am not even a Kate Bush fanboy. Her lyricism, performance and physicality are so beyond everything we will ever witness she, again, surpassed everybody you might ever associate with these adjectives.

Kate Bush laid down the law in regards to acting with your voice, expression with her dance, a live show with wireless microphone, dancers. You didn't "just" go to her show, as many folks experienced for the first time, you were drawn into her reality of the song she sang, you became part of the songs she sang and that's beyond genius in my opinion.

I was in a hard rock band in the 80’s...we played Zeppelin,The Cult, U2, etc... As soon as l heard Running up that Hill, I was mesmerized..the lyrics, the drumming, the musical accents....needless to say my fellow band mates thought I was crazy...I didn’t care.. I still love her to this day....!

Kate is absolutely unique. I was 13 years old when I was drawn into her magical world in 1978 and I still go back there every time I hear her voice.

Her own video for This Woman's Work is absolutely beautiful and shows what is creatively possible but rarely achieved in that medium.

I've been into Kate Bush from her first album. I've never looked back. The Dreaming and Hounds of Love were absolute masterpieces. She is truly a genius. There has never been anyone who comes close to her brilliance. And it is sad that she never caught in America. It's our loss.

Her single "Hounds of Love" is haunting in the best of ways: a song about the fear of falling in love and losing oneself in it. And in the end the coming to terms with the vulnerability inherent to it.

I don't think I could pick my top 5 Kate Bush songs. They're all so different that it's hard to rank them.

Kate snapped up my attention when I was 17 in 1985 when I was working at a McDonald's and heard "Running Up That Hill" on the overhead speaker. Since then I was instantly a fan. My 5'er (is impossible to list so I'll cheat a bit here and make them in no specific order): HONORABLE MENTIONS: James and the Cold Gun (1978) Eat The Music (1993) Deeper Understanding (1989) Symphony In Blue (1978) THE BEST I CAN DO FOR A TOP 5: 1. She is absolutely a genius, invented the wire thin head--dress microphone using a wire coat hanger so she could keep her hands free. This was ten years before it was picked up by any manufacturer.

Kate Bush is a genius. I remember listening to "Sat In Your Lap" for the first time and being moved by the opening drums. When I got the album, I remember how I listened with anticipation as I was going on a musical journey to some unknown place, hoping I would survive the trip. When it was over, I was changed forever. Everyone should know who Kate Bush is and how important she is to music.

Today is July 24th 2021. I've heard of Kate Bush before. Today I discovered Kate Bush. Or did I? Running up that hill sounded really familiar. But I heard wuthering heights for the first time. I was intrigued. So I went down the rabbit hole. WOW! WHAT A BEAUTIFUL WOMAN! And her unique voice. Instant fan 43 years too late.

Never too Late to find Kate. It is a wonderland. What’s your favourite at this point?

I discovered her during the lockdown of 2020. KZread recommended Wuthering Heights to me (Red Dress video) for some reason. I clicked on it and it was instant love. I went down the rabbit hole that evening (and weeks, months after) and never felt such joy and sadness before. She is truly remarkable. Easily my fav artist of all time, so I guess I have KZread to thank for that! I love how she has been making a resurgence lately because of Stranger Things. You really sum up her artistry like no other, thank you for this video!

Yep, she is absolutely divine. Can't get cloudbusting off my player at the moment, running up that hill gives me chills every time, wuthering heights, babooshka....more to explore. It's like she has tapped into some sort of feminine spiritual realm; makes you go weak at the knees, her eyes delve into your soul.

-Running up that Hill- quite possibly the greatest contemporary song of all time.

She is indeed a legend. "Babooshka" is quite the delight for the ears and eyes. "This Woman's Work" almost always makes me cry(Maxwell covered it as well). "Running Up That Hill" is a masterpiece.

Currently (June 13, 2022) Running up that Hill is at #4 on Billboards Hot 100, #1 on Spotify world list, #2 in UK, #1 in Australia, Sweden, Switzerland, New Zealand and is charting on top 10 in almost all major countries in the world.

The entire album of Hounds of Love deserved to be #1. Even though both sides of the record are different stories i think the flow so well and listening to it in order creates such a unique experience that has never been captured again

Kate has been my absolute go to since I was in my 20's, and that was a long time ago. I would obnoxiously push her onto everyone I knew. Some got it, most did not. My entire life was spent waiting for the next Kate album to come out and I remember how terrible it felt when Aerial was released and I suddenly realized it had been 25 years since she'd released an album, but not for one moment of that time did she ever fall out of my play lists. I always had something by her going and never was bored or tired of it. Still am not. I've listened to The Kick Inside easily over 1000 times and I can still sit and enjoy ever note on the album. It's timeless. It's genius. It's probably the most important work in pop music ever created. Kate is alone in her unique contribution to pop music. Long live the goddess.

One of her songs that is personally important to me and always makes me cry is Love and Anger. So good.

50 words for snow is criminally underrated...

Kate did one tour. Near the end, an accident back stage killed a lighting rig engineer and it shook her so much that she never toured again. Her residency at the Hammersmith Apollo a few years back was at the urging of her son. As for songs, difficult to pick but I am another fan of Hounds of Love it it would be my no#1, In fact in an embarrassment of riches that is her album discography, The album Hounds of Love still stands out.

Thank you for the tribute! You only covered her albums until 1989. Also after that the genius artistry continued. The red shoes (with the mesmerizing Moments of pleasure) from 1993 and especially Aerial 2005 are unique and so beautiful. Kate is a true one of a kind. As a devout fan I still have hopes that she will release yet another masterpiece sometime this decade.

So many great songs but the first of the first album, ’Moving’ just captivates me forever.

I had *The Hounds of Love* on cassette, back inna day... I worked as a systems administrator on a 4 to midnight shift for a Wall Street trading firm. When the day shift folks had gone home, I would blast *"Runnin' Up That Hill",* *"Hounds of Love"* and *"Big Sky"* in heavy rotation, and would have to get up out of my chair and mosh myself into a frenzy to *Big Sky!* I. Love. This. Woman.

Thanks to my amazing dad, he introduced me to Kate Bush as a young kid. Thank you for recognizing her brilliance! 👏 ❤

I adore this amazing woman too. Her music really inspires. Bjork, Tori Amos, Fiona Apple took inspiration from her. Even pop-oriented stars like Annie Lennox, Madonna, Cyndi Lauper praised Kate Bush. I've been a Kate Bush fan since the early 80s. You can't talk about her musical genius without talking about The Ninth Wave on Hounds of Love. I always loved her storytelling but that entire sequence changed everything for me. I like your picks but I think some other top ones for me are: The Sensual World 50 Words for Snow Army Dreamers Experiment IV Eat the Music So many more... I love her storytelling, the way she uses her voice, the musical risks she takes to tell the story and the way she uses instrumentation to tell the story as well, it's just her voice and lyrics, the layers you can unravel even after multiple listens. Musically, she's probably in my top 5 for most influential for me personally.

After watching Wuthering Heights with Lawrence Olivier/Merle Oberon I came across Kate Bush's song. Interesting that she sang the song from Catherine's ghost point of view. All I can say is “thank you” for bringing Kate into the 2020’s. I’ve loved Kate for many, many years, there will never be another like her.

I just started listening to Kate Bush less than 5 years ago. She was Like nothing I could imagine. She literally changed me and I have never felt quite like her music made me feel, her words, who she was. I cannot believe such an angel exists. I'm beyond taken with songs written b4 my birth. She's amazing and she's given me more than she will ever know.

That scene in She's having a baby with This woman's work is amazing, I never had a baby and I still get emotional. The Dreaming is one of the most brilliant and original albums ever recorded.

I discovered Kate Bush in 1978 when I was doing a paper on the Bronte Sisters and specifically, Wuthering Heights. It was after spending a hot day in my classroom (no central air) and I went to the mall for some retail therapy. I spotted her album in the record store and the moment I laid my eye on the song "Wuthering Heights", I knew that I had to include it in my research and mention it in my paper. I went home and I swear I listened to that album at least four times before bedtime and then one more time in the middle of the night wearing my headphones. I don't have to tell you that my paper got A+ and that my teacher was amazed at how Kate's song captured the novel and the emotions of Catherine and her love for Heathcliff. I became a fan of Kate's and anxiously awaited each new album as this was before the internet so you really had to watch the UK music magazines for mention of each release. I managed to turn on at least ten male friends to Kate's music and they became fans as well. She's the only woman I could say that I wouldn't mind sleeping with given the chance lol! One of my favourite songs of hers is "Experiment IV", which is apparently based in fact - using sounds to "kill" ones enemy during war/conflict. If you watch the video carefully, you'll recognize a couple of rather famous actors; Dawn French of "The Vicar of Dibley" and some guy called Hugh Laurie who wouldn't become famous in America until he starred in the hospital drama "House".

Kate Bush led the way to so many other great female songstresses, including my personal favorite: Tori Amos. Thanks for this sincere tribute.

I remember seeing Tori in the early 90's and thinking it was the closest I would ever come to seeing the incomparable Kate Bush live. That's a huge compliment to both.

Finally got to see her play live a few years ago in London - the memories of that night will last forever!

As a young child my brilliant mother introduced me to this amazing artist, when she brought home Kates first album and played it on our record player. Kate's music is now being appreciated by my grandkids and l agree she is truely a genius, timeless and inspirational.

The one artist who makes me well up with emotion whenever I hear or even think of her. She is a running stream of pure emotion ……

I've been following Kate since I saw her on SNL in 1978. I hungrily waited every album after "The Kick Inside" and watched and heard her creativity grow as she did. It was hard living in the US to find out anything and with no KZread, it was almost impossible to find videos. Always my favorite!

I discovered her in 1982, and I am still bewildered by this genius. I find it interesting that so many male musicians, like myself are so devoted to her work, I wonder if someone took a census of her fanbase, what kind of demographic we would find. The kind of loyalty that stayed with her all these years, we must be a strange lot!!

I fulfilled a lifelong dream and went to see Kate in 2014 in London. Wow! Was like actually living inside one of her albums! Great video, thanks.

@@topherjn The ninth wave was the most unexpected part of the concert for me. I never thought i'd see Kate live, and I absolutely, never in a million years thought she would ever perform the Ninth Wave. Having said that, An Architects Dream is one of my favourite Kate songs, and brought a tear to my eye.

Kate Bush was the existential embodiment of creativity of perfection. I bought all of her albums and wore out many stereo phonograph needles from playing those absolutely delicious vocals. If you want to witness the brilliance of this amazing artist, you owe it to yourself to watch "Kate Bush Live at The Hammersmith Odeon". It will give a silky and soothing hug to your soul. I went overboard trying to be eloquent as I could but she deserves special accolades.

Hear hear! A total genius! Brilliant singer, writer, composer, dancer, arranger, producer and vocalist! Every song is a piece of art, her musicality and knowledge of instruments and eagerness to experiment sets her so far apart from today's bland drivel of Jessie J and Ed Sheeran and Billie Eilish and Mylie Cyrus.

Yeeeeeeessssssss!!! Kate's my favorite! I binge-listen to her work several times per week (sometimes several times per day, lol).

I LOVE Kate Bush... thank you so much for covering her. She is too unknown in the USA! Have listened to her since the late 1970's and to this day it's still magical to listen to her. A real shame she doesn't like to perform live....

The man with a child in his eyes is a perfect introduction to the song The kick inside. The song Wuthering Heights was my gateway drug into the world of Kate Bush. Running up that hill opened the floodgates to buy her past works. I bought Running up that hill on a 45 (remember those). My take away was the hidden gem (B-side) Under the Ivy. As a shy, nerdy and at times bullied teen Kate was the rock goddess that appealed to me and Under the Ivy was my song that I didn't share with anyone.

I bought her first album when she appeared on top of the pops (Uk chart show) in 1978 she was almost unheard of. I have loved her ever since. She was the first singer to use a head mic, her sound engineer rigged up a mic using a metal coat hanger to give her the freedom she needed to perform her dance sequences.

"The Dreaming" was another great album of hers. Also "Ariel"

I'm sure you mean "Arial". Arial "A sky of honey" (the entire "B" side) together with "The Ninth Wave" (the "B" side of Hounds of Love) are among her best.

@@jarls5890 - Is it not 'Aerial'?! And I agree with you on 'The Ninth Wave' 's awesomeness; I once fell asleep to it playing (many years ago now) and was having very vivid and weird dreams that night :-)

The middle eight of Wuthering Heights is a little piece of melancholy heaven.

Finally Kate Bush!! Her work is dreamy, thoughtful and melancholic. Hounds of Love is my favourite album. Her album Aerial is underrated.There’s no one else like her. This video proves that the Professor knows. 2 years after this video was produced, Kate Bush is back, getting the love she deserved 30 years ago.

I'm soooo grateful that I was lucky enough to see Kate's 'Before The Dawn' show in 2014. There aren't words enough to describe it's brilliance. Also, 'Cloudbusting' is based on the book 'A Book Of Dreams.'

This is so nice to watch. I think i was 12 or 13 when Kate released The kick inside, and i have been a fan ever since. My parents hated the albums, but that never changed my mind. I think she is a real genius, no other words apply to her.

M’y favorite Kate Bush song is Breathing, the closing track of Never for Ever. It’s a statement against nuclear weapons. Powerful. I also love the whole The Ninth Wave suite. Her masterpiece, in my view.

Kate's first three albums are my favorite. I especially like Lionheart which many don't like but I do. Her demos are incredible too! Whenever I hear Kate's voice I just want to give her a hug 🤗

True artist. Bloody genius. Gifted musician and unique vocalist. Such a combination comes but rarely in ANY music - let alone pop and rock. She has also retained her integrity and moral compass in a sphere where these attributes can be so easily subverted. Bravo Kate. Bravo….
