    True. As a Alphatauri fan that saw every race from their POV I can also say that yuki was robbed from a lot of points duo to bad strategy, much more than gasly. You can look at the last race of the year, yuki could have finished in front of stroll and allow alphatauri to finish 8th but they messed his pit-stop (which put yuki behind stroll) and then decided to give him softs for the last 20+ laps even though they had given pierre softs for fewer laps and the dropoff was immense

    I think Yuki being "honest" aka genuine is one of his biggest assets actually. F1 is ultimately an entertainment product. It's a story, and it needs interesting characters whom the fans can root for, and nobody delivers that better than Yuki. I hope he's able to get serious but without having to become a "politician" / robot with the media like so many other drivers. Take Max for example. I loved him when he was an upstart and a hothead, but now he just "says the right things" and wins consistently, and it's like, I'm just not interested in this story anymore.

  • @BanditTheBandito

    @BanditTheBandito

    Жыл бұрын

    I see what you are saying but I think you have this a little twisted. First Yuki might have a personality that fans enjoy but it's no different than Danny Ric, you have to still be scoring points and driving at your best. No excuses. Overall I would say most the F1 drivers are ruthlessly honest and genuine, not just Yuki. As for Max, he has nothing to win by giving media more stories or more sound bites, he's a professional and is going to do his talking on track, and it makes it easier to do his job each weekend when he isn't creating more drama off the track. The most exhausting part for these drivers on top of the insane schedule and time changes when they travel is all the media stuff they got to do. So I don't think its about being a robot or politician as much as it is focusing at the real task at hand. Yuki came into F1 as this video mentioned with little to no expectations behind Gasly. They know Yuki is fast and aggressive but he's yet to be consistent and smooth. And the latter is what you need if you are already a fast driver.

  • @seph9980
    @seph9980 Жыл бұрын

    I think his generation, with Mick included, was really unlucky. They came into F1 in the last year of development for that car, and pitted against the generation of the likes of Norris who had more time to grow into that kinds of car. After a year, not only were they unable to adapt in F1, a new type of car was already introduced. Basically, their first year of adapting to the first car was almost wasted. So, yeah, I guess, you can say that Yuki and Mick deserve to have a 2nd year in this current car format. Especially for alphatauri, if they keep Yuki a bit longer, they can find a reliable driver in him. I wouldn't advise Yuki to jump into that 2nd seat at red bull. That place is pressure burner.

    I'm a big fan of Nyck De Vries he's a very level headed guy, very business like and he's proven he's not a quitter after waiting for years to finally get his chance in F1. I fully expect him to come in all guns blazing and to make an impression as soon as Bahrain testing. For Yuki it's definitely a mental game for him, he can be easily flustered when in the car and loses his temper at the drop of at hat, so with him up against a typically calm and collected De Vries, it's going to be very interesting to watch these two this season!

    If I had to guess who's going to be out during Silly Season for '23, my bet would be Yuki. Like Riccardo, he's got a lovable endearing personality, but that is NEVER enough to sustain your seat in F1. Yuki came into '22 ready to fight. He moved near the factory, he'd been dedicated to his workouts, and things were looking like at best, he would be a close runner up to Gasly, but when your team is literally hiring a psychologist to help you deal mid season and putting it out there publicly...things are probably not going so well. I really want Yuki to surprise me this season and remind us why he's here, but as mentioned, Nyck is not your typical Rookie. He's intense, he's mature, he's driven practically half the cars on the grid and done other motorsport, he's been waiting in the wings forever for his chance, and he's for darn sure not going to let his opportunity slip through his hands or let Yuki get in his way of trying to fight for his own seat as a rookie. Then you add Iwasa in the mix...I mean, they're all smelling the blood in the water, so it's sink or swim for Yuki, and I sure hope he swims.

    What ended Ricciardo's period in F1 was his sequence of bad decisions. He left Red Bull because he didn't want to play second fiddle to Verstappen, went to a team which was built around him...Only to leave said team to play second fiddle to Lando in McLaren, a bigger team (which would pay him more). Once the rumors of him leaving F1 started pilling at the end of the season, he openly refused a seat offer from Haas citing other reasons when it's clear he did so because Haas is a smaller team and they probably wouldn't pay him what he earned at McLaren. He better think well about what he's done in his current PR position in Red Bull because he will never drive one again.

    He's been having so many things work against him. 1) Car has been polar opposite to his preferences with no chance of improving it. 2) Spent majority of his first season under lock down not able to visit the factory. 3) Rushed through the junior series in a foreign land with ZERO mentors or support in his corner. These are all things RedBull has been trying to address. Getting him a place near the factory. Getting him a personal trainer. Getting Tost to oversee his schedule. Getting Albon to coach him. Getting him in touch with Taka in MotoGP. This is all stuff some drivers had even during the Junior series. Yuki only started to get this last year. This year, I HOPE they switched the balance of that car and I hope Yuki's talent wasn't dulled after spending 2 years in that understeering boat. I really hope we get to see some of that talent this year and the fruits of all the support they put behind him.

    A lot of it is coming back to this car. Gasly and Yuki have polar opposite preferences in car direction... Gasly failed in RB because that car is polar opposite to what he wants. Yuki has been dealing with it for 2 years now... Now we have to see if Alpha Tauri is willing to lean that car towards Yuki's oversteer preference and see if he can still make it dance after spending 2 years getting used to a heavily understeer biased car. My biggest fear is he lost that edge after not being able to practice it for so long.

    Dude, your negative branding of Yuki seems quite disproportionate... Branding the Silverstone incident as "Classic Yuki?" - How many laps did he hold up Hamilton in Spa 2021? He's had P4s in Abhu Dhabi in his rookie year - and he's had solid races ruined by things out of his control in 2022. The intent is obvious - saying that you love Japanese car culture, doesn't hide your intentions. Yuki may have been inexperienced - but he's well aware of the challenge of F1; if anything a bit too much. He was trying to beat Gasly so hard in his first year - hence all the frustration across the radio in 2021. If you've seen his interviews in Japanese - the guy is much more mature than he makes out to be in English. (Where was DeVries at 21 years old?) I don't know how qualified you are to make sweeping statements and ultimatums on what's enough for his contract - but you're pushing the narrative that Yuki shouldn't be given time quite blatantly.

    A sort of pivotal point for Yuki happened when it was publicly announced he was going to a sports psychologist. Since that event, his performance plummeted. Looking at their F2 line-up this year, I don't think he'll be so lucky again. Marko clearly has a soft spot for him, but I don't think RB in general are too impressed with him. A good measure of where a driver is at, is whether another team would take them if they were available. And no team is taking him if he becomes available that's for sure

    Yuki is the epitome of Japanese youth nowadays with all that "yutori education" (relaxed / leeway) criticism - unmotivated, just grateful being there. I've been in competition or watch games with Japanese participants in it, expecting competitive showdowns, it is often disappointing: the guy just there to show up and travel the place. They are either worried looking like a try-hards or simply couldn't care less about the competition. Heck, a Filipino and Srilankan contestants showed far much more mettle and result. Yes, Gasly sucks in his rookie years, but the guy worked hard and tried his darndest to be competitive. That's a good sight. Yuki "hates working out" and highly inconsistent. He looks like that he is still searching for his "ikigai" (purpose / motivation) or something.
