Very good video! By the title of the video i thought u were going to tackle this subject in a different way, but i agree with u completely. For me the funniest thing about this situation is that the fashionindustry is one of the most progressive industries out there when it comes to PC-culture, equality, etc. But they 'allow' this to happen, which is very peculuar in my opinion. Galliano is a legendary designer but this sends the wrong message. To me it seems there is a double standard within the industry, which is sad

Anna Wintour, she saw his student collection, told him to find the money in order to produce his collection so he could show at that couture season. John did that and the rest was history. He did a guest styling with Oscar de la Renta to test the waters of if he could come back into the fashion scene. Oscar, from my understanding, wanted to give him a shot at possibly becoming the next Creative Director of Oscar de la Renta but there was one very big problem... the clients said hell no. A fair amount of Oscar's clients were very wealthy people of Jewish Heritage and made it known that if he was hired, they would bolt. I loved John at Dior and many miss his work but what he said and did was inexcusable. You knew it was bad when Karl Largerfeld told him to "Shut Up" and to keep his opinions of "that nature" to himself and that his comments had the potential to bring the entire industry down. The fashion media did a very nice job of salvaging a career that if John had kept himself together, he wouldn't have had to salvage. An asterisk will forever be placed by his name and it is all his fault. John was not the only one to have drug and alcohol problems, but he was the only one who trashed his most important public, the clients of the House of Dior. I wish him well in his recovery and I hope he is living a better life now that he is by most accounts sober. To me, it brought to light a problem that was much deeper and more sinister concerning the fashion scene. His actions really started to expose all the cracks in the industry. I am sure through your research, you have noticed and understand why things are changing.

What I think is happening with all the trashing of female and minority Creative Directors is simply this, most are more concerned with the reality of comfort with design and profit. Fantasy is really not apart of the process at least not in the way we have become accustomed to. The collections are what women will actually wear and spend money on. The business aspect works with the present collections being presented. They are respecting the code of the houses they serve, but they are noting that the role of women has changed dramatically and that fashion will have to change with it. Fashion is too nostalgic and not looking forward. I have no problem with looking in the past for reference, however, one must not live there. The many who are mad with this new direction are stuck in that past. I also think fashion should only be two seasons and only have two collections a year, just spread out so as not to drain designers of their creative efforts. Slow this train down, make meaningful collections that are inclusive, profitable and a joy to watch again. I know there are a creative class of designers out there that need their come up, and it is up to Journalist like you, who can and should find them. Thank you for your consistent reporting on the fashion industry.

I first met john Galliano upstairs at Heaven nightclub in 1984 he was wearing a jacket that he had made himself from upholstery fabric.I had no idea who he was at the time but i told him i really liked his jacket and he was very nice and thanked me for the compliment.I have over the years been a big fan of his work and have even bought a good few peices.I do find it very sad that the fashion industry enables people to live their worst version of themselves to those around them..... and of course at that level of the fashion industry you are under so much pressure and that drugs have always been part of the day to day lifestyle of great designer. The have and will continue to distort reality of the lives of these people so rather than look on in disgust we have to have empathy and of course give people a chance to redeem themselves in what ever way they feel they can.I have witnessed myself on many occasions in the fashion world so much drug use and for some it really did get all to much but let us not forget to err is human.RIP Lee Mcq

He did and said some terrible, disgusting things, his talent can't be denied though, he's one of the best designers of the 20th / 21st century. Many of histories most amazing artist, designers and creatives were absolutely abhorrent people who did repulsive things as well as creating some of the worlds most transcendent and awe inspiring art. I'd never condone such behaviour, in many cases it's totally unforgivable but sometimes I think you do have to try and separate the art from the artist otherwise you are denying yourself a wealth of amazing creative output.

Hypothetically, if an artist paints a beautiful painting, and then commits a murder, you are allowed to say his painting is still beautiful, but he must still face the consequences of his murder, even if jail time means less beautiful art.

Magnus Carlsen, the world chess champion gave a great response when asked who his idol is. He said that he doesn't have idols, because he admires what people can do, not the people themselves. More people need to understand this, especially since nowadays, celebrities are constantly giving bullshit opinions on politics and other things, thinking they're somewhat smarter than others, and many take them seriously just because they are talented at something. John Galliano is a great designer. He can give his opinions on what he wants, but he's not smarter than anyone else just because he's a great designer. In fact, he might be a total moron. The same goes for other designers, artists, architects, actors, musicians and so on. These people can give you some great advice and interesting thoughts on their field (in Galliano's case, fashion), other than that, it's best that you don't idolize them and take them too seriously. You will be disappointed.

The entire thing is really just so sad to me because his work resonates so much with me, from a fashion perspective he’s my favourite designer ever and I draw most of my inspiration from him BUT fashion is not just about clothes and as a black woman I’m not sure how to separate the art from the artist. I think I quietly draw references from his work but his personality is just vile & it’s part of the reason I can’t say I’m a Galliano fan 100% He was middle aged when he did those things so there’s no excuse tbh.

This is a common understanding of alcohol, but it's very simplistic. Alcohol is not a truth serum. It does; however, lower your inhibitions. So it's possible Galliano was a secret nazi. But it's equally possible that alcohol and drugs lowered his inhibition to say the worst thing you can think of to people you see as annoying you and read as Jewish. There are lots of dangerous implications from understanding drugs/alcohol so simplistically including that an intoxicated woman behaving with lowered inhibitions is "asking for it." Probably best to do a little research on information like this in future, especially if you have no first hand experience.

Addicts do even worse things in active addiction. They lie, steal, hurt all kinds of people and are manipulative. Nobody is excusing what John said, but I think people need to understand that you can do things as an addict that are not at all representative of the person you are sober. I don't believe John Galliano is racist. When we drink we gets angrier faster (common fact) and tend to be impulsive. He was a blackout drunk. How can you judge him as a person when he is literally in a blackout? He may be an awful addict, but aren't all addicts awful (or most)? Sure fire him from Dior, but he doesn't deserved to be judged from this his whole life.

People do and say stupid things under the influence but to equate his comments with murder? Seriously. Your argument is as bad as the journalists you criticize for portraying him as a victim. If his designs one day inspire a gay Latino kid from the barrio to become a success in fashion, then something good would have come from Galliano learning from his mistake and asking for forgiveness and the world learning to forgive. Add to that the fact that Anna continues to excuse the behaviour of her friends from pedophile photographers to antisemetic designers and gives them opportunities time after time. We don't know what was said to him up to this point in the conversation. It seems he was indeed filmed without his knowledge. It's not like he said these things in a press conference or an interview. Also we don't know what experiences he was subjected to by similar people earlier in his life. Would it be so shocking to hear the same this said by someone who has had their family torn apart from living through bombings in Palestine? I have a few friends who, when intoxicated, will say the most nasty things in an argument they can think of. Especially some of the gay ones. A gay man saying he loved hitler who, as he knows, clearly wouldn't have liked him (or worse) seems to me like one of these instances. A gay man being catty and nasty is nothing new to me and I expect you have seen similar given your career path. If he had endorsed the genocide of a significantly less financially influential race eg: Gypsies, I doubt his job would have been so severely affected or his words so publicized. Do you know what the Talmud says about how gentiles should be treated?

Why is it, That no one addresses the issue of just who were the people who were egging him on? ( were they the same people who had previously involved themselves in a verbal altercation with him ? And if they weren't, did the two pair know each other ?) ( who were they, and where do they work, ( follow the money? ( what did their bank account look like before and after the altercation,) When you watch the whole footage in the video. You can hear the person or persons who were standing over him asking him at one point. " are you Aryan ?" And " is that your hair's real color," Then they stood back and laughed as if pleased from the results of their questions. ( at this point , mind control of the most subtle type shouldn't be ruled out,) Later, while sober, he, ( John Galliano,) trying to make sense of what had happened. Explained to whoever who would listen, that he was being " cheated" (?) BUT, He didn't specify as to the identity of the cheater or the details of whatever theft was occurring or had occurred. ( was the company that he worked for cheating him ? And he found out about it ? Did this prompt the company to think of a plan to sever the contract between them and the artist? Was this their way of doing it ,without appearing to have anything directly to do with his sudden departure ?) And will we ever really know what , behind the scenes actually happened ? ( don't they also own the John Galliano brand, or a huge part of it ?)

You’ve brought up very valid points. What I know for a fact which is why you could be right is Dior had been looking to fire him for a while. I know someone who worked with Galliano at Dior and she told me that Galliano already had many other cases of abusing staff, getting into fights with other staff members etc So I think this was all very convenient for Dior who could now finally fire him with a good enough reason. That being said, it doesn’t not excuse a Galliano’s behaviour. He needs to learn to have self control and the only reason Dior wanted to get rid of him was because he was a problem which was his own doing.

@@FashionRoadman It doesn't excuse his behavior , IF, it was indeed his behavior we are speaking about. The mind control that these parties use, is of the most quiet sort. ( I've read the patents,) When a company as large and rich as Dior " hires" a team to... " get rid of some one" You can bet good money that the person ,( unless they have a background in such technology, )wouldn't know what had hit them. They are just that good. And as far as what he said, How long had he been working there ? At Dior ? Strange how after all that time, no one at the company had ever heard him express himself in such a way. Or are we to think that he spoke like this all the time but never publicly ? Are we to think that they ( Dior,) knew that he had these sentiments but just swept them under the rug all these years ?

I was wondering if Martin Margiela really wanted Galliano to reign in the house because I have read somewhere that Martin Margiela said to Galliano to treat the house as of his own amd its just weird because I think of Margiela as an anti institution kind of designer so I was wondering what made Martin Margiela go with the appointment of Galliano in his namesake house because although he no longer owns the fashion house in general he should still has a say on the appointment given the scandal Galliano has been on... more power to your channel. ❤️❤️❤️

This is a great question. I don’t think Margiela has any say on what happens with the brand actually. He made it but now he has completely no ownership of it anymore. From what I know about Margiela, he is very anti-establishment, lowkey and incognito. I can imagine he wouldn’t have liked the Galliano appointment as they are polar opposites.

You are teetotal (good for you) but I dont think professionals in addiction/ medical science would agree with your explanation. There is an element of Jekyl/Hyde from substance abuse. Not that it excuses misbehavior and Galliano did some terrible things, but at the same time one should give a balanced perspective. In your last example you draw an extreme comparison. If we decide to use the example of a thief instead then I dont think the answer is as clear cut and conclusive as you present it. Otherwise, we might as well execute anyone whos ever committed a crime irrespective of severity. Only someone who knows Galliano personally will have any clue if he has truly reformed but certainly hes been keeping a low profile and seems to be living his life in a different, more productive way now. He doesnt seem to be relapsing and re-living his past demons. It's fair to say redemption should be earned and not given as a free pass. It's also fair that he should be given a fair chance

@@FashionRoadman Dior its on top, that's why nobody in the press dislike what they are showing right now. All the designers before have put something new to the house, Gallianno did bring new life at two fashion houses from the group , one Dior, (that all call too formal and classic). The new Dior era in terms of impact, inspiration, designs it will never be the same because the world were designers like Galliano, McQueen, Jean Paul , Ford, etc, etc, where kings of Fashion, its not the same a lot have change. The new era is full of Feminist themes( a thing it's not that bad at all) and Super comercial pieces that seen to sale really well, The clients don't want the pump up the value fashion that make Dior know to average people who rarely get to buy the clothes. The people have moved away from part of the excess and design style that the brand was simonimus back them, and the owners are fully aware of that. To me it's interesting how the show it's opened always for a White blond androgynous looking young woman, in comparison of the glamasomes women of previous eras ( Gayten, Simons,Ferre, Galliano) . If anybody saw the documental about the exhibit even the employees have a subtle way to say this era "its different" to all the designers eras before because the designs never change from the paper to the show. I think that still is too soon to write off Chiuri

I'm not defending him, but having a view point on drugs and alcohol which is based on no first hand experience is completely discredited.

You have a point to an extent however, my perspective comes from the perspective of someone with self control. I’ve drank alcohol, I’ve just never been drunk because I drink very tiny amounts when I do drink alcohol and I drink maybe once every 6 months. He surrounded himself with destructive friends who influenced him to drink and do drugs. John galliano is an adult not a 13 year old kid. No one forced him to do drugs, no one forced him to drink. He made that choice and he has to live with the consequences of that. Why do we excuse bad behaviour because a fully grown adult has no self control anytime he does something everyone can be like “don’t blame him he’s an addict,” “it’s the alcohol,” “it’s the drugs.”

It's not that a secret but designers/artisans on the other hand is being put trough a vast amount of stress to pump out like several collections in a year with each one better from the previous not a theme that repeats and to cope with the energy required used cocaine and what other drugs not just getting intoxicated in alcohol which makes you tipsy. I had been a fan of Galliano his early works for Givenchy is sorta what lead me to the whole fashion industry now working as stylist and photographer. There's no denying that the guy has an insane amount of Talent and Creativity and it's been known that artists (Caravaggio (murderer), Picasso (sexual predator), Bernini (attempted murder) alike even from the past have manic outburst even far from worst than what he did not trying to justify it. but it happened... and we have to move on the issue he did moved on as well. he's doing so great with Margiela and am happy with him doing what he does best. but hate the sin not the sinner!!! we're not perfect we all make mistakes.

I really was hoping this was more insightful about the level of his skill the amount work/ research he puts in his work all the presentation that it involves his story telling is unmatched!!! no one can even come close to what he does!! but it all ended up about countless rants and endless self blabber do better next. PS: his shows always excites me; totally respecting the house he's in but you can still see his flair for the grandiose yet restricted a controlled chaos where rawness transpose with the finesse.

Kind of appropriate such a swine should be CD at Margiela. I'm aware of some horrid things on the back end of that company and it doesn't surprise me that they're ok with harboring a bigot. Chanel too. I will never buy from either one, personally.
