Why Joe Rogan went after Carlos Mencia but NOT Amy Schumer | He had LA comedy scene on check

Thank you all for watching! Don't forget to like and subscribe! It really helps out the channel! We are trying to reach 6,000 subs! :D
Before Joe Rogan was the biggest name in Comedy, there was a different culture around stand up comedy clubs. Just like other fields, comedy in LA was very competitive and Ruthless. After the first comedian got a TV show deal, everyone else was always looking for that opportunity at any cost.
Once you were at the top, you had immense power and influence and some people used this for bad reasons. And unlike any other fields, comedy is not fully protected by an external body. Instead it was all left to be dealt amongst each other. This created a very toxic environment and a made a lot of people hate each other.
Joe Rogan was a huge voice against this and risked a lot to put an end to it. He then created a much better atmosphere in comedy clubs and among comedians and podcasters. Now that he has left LA, are things different?

I remember in the summer of 94', me and my cousin were watching a Carlos Mencia comedy half hour and I remember him telling a Paul Rodriguez joke word for word, and I was like, "Hey, he got that joke from Paul Rodriguez!" And ever since then, I was skeptical about him! Then I found out he wasn't even Mexican and his name was Ned, and I started to hate him!

I think Carlos Mencia was playing an outdated game. Dog eat dog, fight to survive mentality. When the playing field started to level out by means of easier information sharing it exposed that he was one of the only people still able to play that game without punishment from fellow comedians by virtue of his popularity. I'll bet if he didn't lie about it so hard he would have been afforded a redemption arc.

I think he is a psychopath by definition, completely different type of dude than the rest of the comedians, if Joe didn't call him out I think he would've crashed and burned somewhere else by fucking over the wrong person above him. Psychopaths usually run into problems every 7 years or so because the build a tower of lies and it comes crashing down. they are also not able to think too far ahead they lie there way to the top and they are very successful at first. And Psychopaths dont think they do anything wrong, to the core they believe they did nothing bad and u can see that in Neds (carlos) way of life.

The missing element I don’t think a lot of people are talking about: Joe wasn’t just calling out Carlos for joke theft in a vacuum, he was calling out Carlos on behalf of the comedians who hated that Carlos was stealing their jokes on top of all the other bully shit he did. There were a million comics complaining about Carlos stealing their jokes and how you could never do your good material if he was in the crowd. I’ve never heard of a comedian who said “Amy Schumer stole my joke”, it’s basically all been the internet as far as I’ve seen. Obviously she is a serious plagiarist but the actual comedy world didn’t seem to have an issue with her, at least not until the internet discovered her plagiarism. I haven’t even watched the video yet so maybe this is the same point he’s making, idk.

Honestly? I don’t think you can give Joe Rogan credit for being the first to be kind and promote to other comedians on the scene. Maybe in the podcast in realm, but he was not the first in stand up comedy. There are many examples of comedians doing this before. One person was Chelsea handler. She was very good about promoting other comedians and their work when she had her show on E. Comedians with consistently shout her out for being generous and kind with her resources. She did it for years. That was way before Joe Rogan started doing it. I think you could give him credit for establishing that expectation of promoting other comedians through the podcast circuit, but I don’t think he’s the person that actually started this trend. Just a thought.

Big difference between the 2. Carlos used to bump comics then go on stage and use that comics closing bits and or other bits before that comic would go on stage. He was also a bully and because of his popularity and fame would do so deliberaty. He would also go and sit in the back just to find and steal bits from newer comics. Stealing is stealing but what Carlos did was even worse.

What Joe Rogan did was a Rosa Parks moment in comedy. To come up with a joke from nothing, tweak it,take something away, add something, season it...perfect. Then you take this homemade "meal" into a roomfull of strangers to taste and... THEY LOVE IT!! Carlos was stealing homemade recipes and saying he invented them. Analogous to stealing a baby imo. If Joe didn't do this, joke thievery would be running rampant. All comics need to salute him for this. As why Amy didn't get the same backlash imo... 1.she's a woman (automatic double standard) 2.she was hot at the moment and people didn't wanna speak out against someone who could benefit their career. 👈Watch my first time onstage. “Comic Bombs” (most popular)

Rogan challenged mencia because nobody really had put out a damning video about him stealing jokes at the time, and because he personally disliked him. With schumer I think Rogan wasnt personally involved, and he didnt have to because anyone could edit clips together to prove she takes jokes. He set the precedent with mencia a decade earlier, has since matured and probably doesnt want to dive in to more of that drama. However he could easily have talked about schumer at some point, no idea if he has. In short, not his problem, and people who steal jokes get exposed naturally.
