WHY JERUSALEM--Understanding God's Eternal & Biblical Purposes For Jerusalem

Look again at Christ's very first words in Matthew 24:2. All that He says about His second coming is introduced by those words. He said to keep your eye on Jerusalem. I am ascending from the Mount of Olives (the center of Jerusalem then and now) and I am returning to the Mount of Olives.
As we turn to the subject again of Christ's coming and those incredibly detailed snapshots He left us in Matthew 24, we are focusing on Jerusalem. According to the Lord, the end of the world centers around Jerusalem.
As mentioned over 800 times in God's Word -Jerusalem is a very important place. It was in Jerusalem that God promised Christ's coming as the Lamb of God to Abraham. It was here that David was promised a future Son who would have an endless kingdom. It was here God worked.
JERUSALEM IS GOD'S CITY
There are three reasons why Jerusalem is so vital: because Jerusalem is GOD'S CITY, GOD'S CLOCK, AND GOD'S CANVAS.
GOD'S CITY because He has chosen Jerusalem (1 Kings 11:36).

Psalm 51:1 (1-2) For the Pure and Shining One. A prayer of confession when the prophet Nathan exposed King David’s adultery with Bathsheba. God, give me mercy from Your fountain of forgiveness! I know Your abundant love is enough to wash away my guilt. Because Your compassion is so great, take away this shameful guilt of sin. Forgive the full extent of my rebellious ways, and erase this deep stain on my conscience. 51:3 (3-4) For I’m so ashamed. I feel such pain and anguish within me. I can’t get away from the sting of my sin against You, Lord! Everything I did, I did right in front of You, for You saw it all. Against You, and You above all, have I sinned. Everything You say to me is infallibly true and Your judgment conquers me. 51:5 Lord, I have been a sinner from birth, from the moment my mother conceived me. 51:6 I know that you delight to set Your truth deep in my spirit. So come into the hidden places of my heart and teach me wisdom. (TPT)

@@eternalpeaceandjoy The Passion Translation is not a valid translation. It is one man's work, similar to Joseph Smith's pathway. Anyone who reads it to follow it risks becoming cult-like, and will not be following The Spirit of Truth.

The literal city of Jerusalem has been around for almost 4,000 years, since the days of Melchizedek, it's king-priest, though called at that time Salem, meaning "Peace".(Gen 14:18) The name Jerusalem means "Possession of TwoFold Peace", whereby the apostle Paul wrote: "For this Mel·chizʹe·dek, king of Saʹlem, priest of the Most High God, met Abraham returning from the slaughter of the kings and blessed him, and Abraham gave him a tenth of everything. First, his name is translated “King of Righteousness,” and then also king of Saʹlem, that is, “King of Peace.”(Heb 7:1, 2) At about age 38, David wrested control of Jerusalem from the Jebusites in about 1070/69 B.C.E., having ruled previously from Hebron for some 7 1/2 years, and whereby he ruled from Jerusalem for the next 33 years until he died in about 1038 B.C.E. at age 70.(2 Sam 5:4-9) Jerusalem's beginning was as Ezekiel 16 states: "The word of Jehovah (God's name, see Isa 12:2; 26:4, KJV) again came to me, saying: “Son of man, make known to Jerusalem her detestable practices. You must say, ‘This is what the Sovereign Lord Jehovah says to Jerusalem: “Your (literal Jerusalem) origin and your birth were in the land of the Caʹnaan·ite. Your father was an Amʹor·ite (see Joshua 10:5, whereby Amorite Adoni-zedek, meaning "Lord of Zedek", was king of Jerusalem), and your mother was a Hitʹtite (see 1 Chron 1:13, 14, whereby the Hittites descended from wicked Canaan, who raped his grandfather Noah, Gen 9:20-25)." "As for your birth, on the day you were born (having come through wicked Canaanite lineage), your umbilical cord was not cut, you were not washed in water to make you clean, you were not rubbed with salt, and you were not wrapped in cloths (being morally and spiritually unclean, even murderous, see Gen 15:16; Lev 18 and 20; 2 Kings 21:11). No one pitied you enough to do any of these things. No one had compassion for you. Instead, you were thrown into the open field because you were hated on the day you were born."(Eze 16:1-4) However, when David took control of Jerusalem, and especially when Solomon built the temple "next door" on Mt Moriah, with its inauguration in about 1026 B.C.E., it took on the superior meaning of being the city that Jehovah had placed his name on (being called "the city of Jehovah", Isa 60:14), as his place of "residence".(1 Kings 9:1-3; compare Isa 66:1) But Jerusalem, with its Israelites, "lost its luster" over time (see Ps 78:8-11), being destroyed by the Babylonians in 607 B.C.E.(2 Kings 25:1-10), and its lineage of David kings ending physically with Zedekiah.(Eze 21:25-27) In the Bible "book" of Isaiah, Jerusalem transitions from literal wicked Jerusalem (see Matt 23:33, 37-39) to spiritual, righteous Jerusalem, with the apostle Paul showing this at Galatians 4, saying: "For example, it is written that Abraham had two sons, one by the servant girl and one by the free woman; but the one by the servant girl (Hagar), was actually born through natural descent and the other by the free woman (Sarah) through a promise." "These things may be taken as a SYMBOLIC drama; for these women mean two covenants, the one from Mount Siʹnai (the "old" Mosaic Law covenant, Ex 19:5, 6, that is now "obsolete", see Heb 8:13), which bears children for slavery and which is Haʹgar." "Now Haʹgar means Siʹnai, a mountain in Arabia, and she corresponds with the (literal) Jerusalem today, for she is in SLAVERY (to sin) with her children. But the Jerusalem ABOVE (that results from "the new covenant for a kingdom", Luke 22:29, that replaced the Mosaic Law covenant, see Jer 31:31-34) is free, and she is our mother." At Hebrews 12:22-24, the apostle Paul wrote: "But you have approached a (symbolic) Mount Zion and a city of the living God, heavenly Jerusalem, and myriads of angels in general assembly, and the congregation of the firstborn who have been enrolled in the heavens (the 144,000 spiritual "Jews", see Rom 2:28, 29; Rev 7:4-8)," "and God the Judge of all (Jehovah), and the spiritual lives of righteous ones (spirit-anointed ones sealed with the holy spirit, Eph 1:13, 14, for "the heavenly calling", Heb 3:1) who have been made perfect (so as to be "declared righteous", see Rom 3:24), and Jesus the mediator of a new covenant (for a Kingdom, composed of both Jews and Gentiles, see Rom 11:11, 12), and the sprinkled blood (of Jesus), which speaks in a better way than Abel’s blood." Literal Jerusalem is now "history" in Jehovah's eyes, having been abandoned by him (Matt 23:38), while "heavenly Jerusalem", along with its subordinate "city" of "New Jerusalem" is whom many true Christians look to for salvation.(Rev 21:2) So, what is the meaning of "Jerusalem" today that is now called "City of Righteousness, Faithful Town" at Isaiah 1:26, as at Isaiah 2:3 that "law will go out of ", and as at Zechariah 12:3. that will be "a heavy stone to all peoples" ?

As interesting as this was, I still feel like it didn't answer WHY Israel? Why that location? Why that lay/lan area? Why did God choose to love THAT specific geographical location on His whole entire earth? Why not smackdab central Sinai Peninsula? I've been fascinated for years as to why our Most Holy Living God of the Universe picked there.
