Why IWC Made This Bizarre Perpetual Calendar Watch | Watchfinder & Co.
Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль
The watchmaker IWC has had a long affinity with the perpetual calendar. This most righteous of complications, it demonstrates a fundamental understanding of high watchmaking that few companies have been able to master to the same degree as IWC. It’s hallowed, it’s traditional, it’s sacred-and IWC has gone and completely changed it.

What’s even more impressive about IWC’s perpetual calendars is that unlike others, there are no pushbutton correctors on the case band. Rather, the movement is “mechanically programmed” for all of the irregularities that it will ever encounter except for quadracentennial non-leap years.

Every time I look at an IWC, my hearts aches of its beauty But boy, this watch is the most beautiful IWC I've ever seen It is so beautiful, it even - dare I say it - give A.Lange a run for its money
@SnazzyZubloids

Not sure I'd go so far as to compare this to a Langematik Perpetual, but it is definitely a looker. And it would be simply unfair to compare it to a Datograph Perpetual.
@patrick_jane2164

@@SnazzyZubloids it is sure not fair. What I meant is that the design language and looks are similar to Lange's. As long as you don't flip the watch of course

I wouldn't go that far. Lange is leaps ahead when compared. At least I think so. But I really really would like to get a IWC Portuguese. But the size is holding me back. They are just so damn big.

For me, the most beautiful luxury watch out there. Hope I can make my way into this range someday. Would proudly use it as a Portuguese myself!
Is that a cut on the left index finger? Take care, talking hands man!
sometimes the facts are more amazing than the watches shown
These are grail stuff. IWC knocks these out of the park with ease. Thanks for showcasing one of my favorite brands.
if only I could afford it. The older version is just simply stunning...
I wish I was as good as explaining anything as you are explaining this in-depth and complicated. Every video I learn something new.
the warm tone from the rose gold metal accommodate the blue dials so amazingly well
Thank you for showcasing some IWC material! I'd still love to see some UpClose and Personal BigPilot love.
Thank you so much for the informative review! I was always intrigued by the full year on the dial, and therefore bought the IWC GST Perpetual Calendar Chronograph in Titanium this summer: Beautiful dial, precise clockwork, easy to manage the setting and lightweight as well. These pre-owned IWC PC’s are not cheap nowadays, but a lot of value for money.
Well detailed and informative video I watched it through because who doesn’t appreciate good information in a time where it’s taken for granted.
Wow, those IWCs are stunning!
I have a IWC Pilot, its a gem, its a quirky and difficult to handle, but I still love it. I look at it and think, this is special, and nobody understands my choice, and you, my dear IWC are a piece of kit, in my eyes. Only another watch freak will understand. If you want to make a statement buy a Rolex like mine. Nobody really knows IWC, but you, you the wearer. You are a collector. But that possibly the point. My next is the Lange & Sohne. Nobody will understand that either. But i will. Im in dream land. So ill live in my watch dream. Ill buy one, then feel frustrated. Because nobody really understands. But isnt that the point....ohhh dear, its a drug
stunning macro shots and beautiful watches
Remarkable macro shots! And great, inspiring story as well.
As someone who has the perpetual, let me say thank you for finally making a video of it. I'm glad the day finally came, and what a great video once again! Well done!
Oh my !!! This guy takes me to realms otherwise unheard and unseen by me . This guy is SOOOOO the voice of Watchfinder . Really nice, but I can't help thinking I would prefer a day display to a leap year one, as the date 29th February would inform you it was a leap year anyhow.

Thank you. That was exceptional
The IWC perpetual is probably my grail watch, and it's the one i'll never own. Not because of cost (although that is a slight issue) but because it's simply too huge! at over 44mm it would look absolutely bizarre on me. Other makers (JLC and AP etc) seem to be able to fit an auto perpetual into a much smaller case, i feel IWC could have made this work on the smaller 41mm portugese case. Sadly one i'll have to miss out on!

I'd really like to see a video on the Audemars Piguet Grande Complication. Either of them will do!
Can you please review the MeisterSinger range of single hand watches? Thanks!
IWC made great watches. The Portugeuser perpetual calendar is my favorite, and not the pilot perpetual calendar. I like the golden one with white dial.
the moon phase is a must..imo

I will never own a perpetual calendar, but I really like the subject watch of the video---it's nice.
I'd trade the chronograph function for a day of the week and moonphase display. I really like the ALS style digital display
IWC was just elevated by this review. What are they waiting for? Hire the man forthwith!

Great looking watch...I wish
Interesting, i didn't know IWC used the same mechanical automatic winding system as Seiko, the bit that characterizes the system, Seiko calls the ''Magic lever'' it's clearly visible at min 5:50, and looks like a steel fork with rear facing barbs, that chews on a brass wheel with small teeth.
Wow this is incredible.
IWC.. my favorite watch brand. Maker of perfectly engineered and functionally beautiful watches.. at any price point. I would like to have this particular model some day...
I suggest a review of the Montblanc Metamorphosis
Nice sales talk, is it made of hard or soft plastic ?
IWC may have found the best possible colour combination with these watches.
Why did they cut the 12????? Just don’t put it on there if there isn’t any space!!!

Tom Smyth like how they did not include the numbee 6. But its still a very very sexy watch.
@kosmosyche

I am very fond of this design actually. I mean, there are so many different and very simple adjustments to a watch design a rational watchmaker would have done to avoid cutting 12 and 6, so that my only explanation they were aiming for such a reaction. Why did they do it?
this watch is so beautiful
Best part about buying perpetual calendars is that there are no fakes of these movements being made.
@smashexentertainment676
4 жыл бұрын
There are fakes that look like some complicated watches, but don't have the real functions. So unless you try, you'll never know. For example copies of Sky Dweller don't have any bezel controller, ofc annual calendar and most other features, but they still look pretty convincing. Until you pull out that crown.
@yutian5884

@@smashexentertainment676 What's the point in that? Lie to the world and convince yourself that it's a real Rolex?
@smashexentertainment676

@@yutian5884 idk. Some people intentionally buy fakes. I don't understand that. 🙄
Nice video a always, watching this wearing a Seiko Premier Kinetic Perpetual. A very much cheaper and very different watch. I really love hand wound and automatics, and own several of them. But the fascination when waking up the Seiko 7D48-0AA0 from it's sleep mode, and watching the hands setting them selves correct never gets old. Bought the watch in 2008, and have never set the date or year, or for that matter changed battery, always 100% reliable. Maybe the Lexus of watches.
Both very elegant, both very desirable. Pity about the relatively large diameter (for smaller wristed types) for such classically designed pieces. I guess the thickness is unavoidable, with that much mechanical complexity.
At 1:20 where we see the full year spelt out in 4 digits, I wonder if the first two digits "20" are static or a full circle allowing the watch to be used up until year 9999. Any idea?
@GamerReborn
3 жыл бұрын
I'm late ,but the 20 are static ,so every 99 years the watch must be serviced to change it manually.
Can you pls review Longines Perpetual Calender watch ?
it would be nice if you could make a review for IWC Da Vinci Perpetual Calendar Chronograph IW392101

It's a beautiful watch but odd that the "12" numeral is cut-off for a watch at this price point.

So you filmed on November 23rd and published on December 11th. I was paying attention
Is that dial green or blue? In the video it looks almost teal green
Like falling in love! Just wow & woo-hoo period. 👍😁❤️
Gyroturbillon from JLC please!
Can someone please tell me how to change month
Odd that such a fuss is being made about how very clever IWC have been making a Perpetual Calendar which is adjusted solely by the crown..... Ulysse Nardin have been doing this for many years! That said, these are beautiful pieces!
I prefer an olnder one. Wonder €30k dor limited to 100 pieces is it worth?
nice complication but not even close to the level of finish on the grand seiko,next in line GS
All I got to say is dang. Especially the chronograph digital display.
sweet
The Petit Prince has quickly become my grail watch. First book I ever read together with Tom Sawyer.

MAN, what's the size of these watches, they definitely seem quite a bit bigger than even 42-43mm
Does the 20 in the year eventually change to 21. Ik i won't live to see it but I gotta know lol
@christopherphan3724

The watch actually comes with a tiny vial with a 1 so that a watchmaker can change it out when it reaches the year 2100.
Is this a teal dial or a navy blue? The ligting is throwing me off.
