A gentle piece of advice brother… whenever cranking any diesel engine in sub zero temps kindly push the clutch all the way in. I know it sounds weird to all my brothers in India but we have learned this trick the hard way here in North Canadian winters. We drive diesel trucks here in the extreme cold and the gear oil in manual transmissions is normally anywhere from 75W85 to 80W90 depending upon where you live. And any fluid of that viscosity is already so damn thick that when the temp drops considerably below freezing, it is literally impossible for the starter motor to turn the engine along with all the extra gears & the input shaft even while in neutral in that thick oil which almost becomes like grease in your gear box at that temp. So it is always better to disconnect the gearbox completely from the engine by disengaging the clutch all the way in while cranking. Also don’t forget that all automotive batteries are performing only at about 35% output at temps below -17 C, even when fully charged & brand new. Over here we just leave the diesel trucks running on high idle at 850 to 950 rpms (just where the dashboard vibration minimizes) if the air temperature falls below -25 C just to save that hassle of restarting a cold one and then breaking something in the cylinder head etc. Sometimes they are left running for even a week when the temps go extreme. Always put additives even in winter diesel to prevent gelling as diesel never freezes but it gels in the lines and prevents starting due to loss of fuel pressure. Another quick tip from experience is that you should double the cranking power by adding another battery to any diesel vehicle if going below -20C. The wind chill factor only affects human skin or animals and has no effect whatsoever on the vehicles or their fluid temps. It is a measurement of how sooner our skin or body will freeze if left outside. For example: In a bitterly cold night with -25C air temp & with -40C wind chill factor, the fluids in the vehicle or anything else in the vehicle will only drop to -25C and not to -40C. Yes, but that wind chill for sure will determine how soon your vehicle’s fluid temps drop down to -25C. But the vehicle and its fluids wont drop below the air temp. I hope I was able to explain myself okay and also didn’t bore you guys! For such extreme cold conditions where electronic and even mechanical fire/flame system could fail, you can use chemical solutions like solid fuel tablets and solid chemical blocks which can provide heat 90°C to 100°C temp with if put in water. These two things are widely used in Japan and Korea by extreme cold wild camping adventures. You can also use pawer bank based heating jackets where batteries of power bank can last longer as they are placed under jacket near your body.

Aage kabhi bhi winters mein jana ho to saath mein 5 killo capacity ka Tin da dibba leker jao.. aur uss mein adhe takk ret (sand) bharke le jao.. saath mein 2-3 liter petrol carry karo .. jab aisi situation mein fas jao to woh tin ka dibba nikalo us mein thoda petrol aur thoda diesel daal kar agg jala lo.. bahut der takk naa sahi lekin paani jaisi item garm kar sakte ho..
