Loads of knightly crests were also adorned with this helmet. Due to its marking as a knight class status symbol, my own family crest is adored with them at the top with flourishes, due to the knighting of Senior Guillermo de Jimenez de la Alcalá by the Spanish kingdom of Aragon during the beginning of the Spanish inquisition, which the closeness of the Alcalá family to the Aragonian royal family would continue to the end of the inquisition giving the Alcalá family much reverence that is carried on today with Spanish colonized countries and in Spain itself. The crest itself featuring a castle tower, due to the meaning of the name and a greyhound due to our otherworldly stamina which is actually due to the fact that the family boasts a high number of individuals with type O blood, like myself with type O negative.

Tilt your head down a bit. The helmet was designed for jousting tournaments. You only needed to see enough in front of you to guide your horse and aim your Lance at your opponent. And then just before impact you raise your head again. This now entirely covers your head with a solid screen of hardened steel plate armour maximizing your chances of survival if the Lance hits or breaks and splinters against your head. The helmet was also secured to the breastplate to prevent neck injuries.

Judging by the comments. (Including mine.) You might need to do a video on the frog helmet... Because, all I got was, it was used primarily used in jousting tournaments because of the limited visibility. (And, I got that from Wikipedia.)
@jaxryz_380
11 ай бұрын
wasn't so much that it was used in jousting BECAUSE of limited visibility; it was specifically designed for jousting. Tilt your head down to have enough vision on the rideup, then right before you connect tilt your head back up and due to the shape of the helmet your head is pretty much completely protected. It was also often secured to the chestpiece of armor in order to prevent neck injury. These helmets were specifically and almost exclusively jousting equipment, because that's what they were made for

@jimmykrause7474 Жыл бұрын
The biggest factor that made Frog mouth helmets so popular was their ability to shed lances. There were no visors or eye slits for blunted tips or splinters to catch. It's very design directs them away from the eyes. A knight could often slip a pretty painful if not deadly blow to the head. His aponent would still get points, but you lived through it to hopefully joust again. They were not a piece of war fighting armor, strictly for mounted jousting.

I wonder that too, what about rainy battlefields or mud and rocks thrown about. When he puts it on you can see his eyes inside the helmet, maybe not easy to see on mobile but its there and seems to have quite good visibility. At least good visibility in the horizontal side of things.

The protection of such a helmet against swords and spears is superb. A skilled enough worrior would be able to take short glances by leaning down briefly to see where the opponent is and how their posed or moving, so opportunities for an opponent to attack that opening would very scarce and small. As long as the rest of the suit of armor holds up, a knight would be a VERY hard target being that they are said to have been exilent swordsmen.

What I will say about 'tiktok culture': What you touch will also touch you. Interactions are energy exchanges, not just one-directional energy transfers. We have many study examples available, like Hollywood, or AVICII. Quantity is an easy target with large cross section. Quality without quantity becomes an elusive influence. The schemer works at the root, in the hidden realm.
I also find it interesting that the head would later influence the designs of Sci-Fi armors and characters. The "one lens visor" helmet often originates back to this.

A jousting helmet that would protect damn near everything, but your field of vision and movement would be extremely limited and that my friend would be a death sentence on the battlefield. To underline your last point about it being a status symbol, I seem to see this specific helmet a lot in family crests
It's just attractive while also being intimidating, very effective
I imagine there was at least one cheeky lad who tossed their trash in through that visor hole.
It's also got a really angular and intimidating profile, which is great art design.

My heart belongs to the armet mainly because of the Elite knight set in Dark souls and the sets with similar designs in DS3, but I've always considered the Frogmouth such as clean, simple, yet powerful design when it comes to defense, it's amazing
Strangely sci-fi-esque for a medieval helmet.
Other than the ruin centinels from ds2 it also reminds me of the knights armor that throws axes in Castlevania, though o guess in most games it's too pixelated to tell

Yeah three sentinels were so slender and tall giving that exaggerated noble vibe so this helmet was literally cherry on top of the design They kicked my ass many times Just like this helmet kicks ass And also the fact you got monetized again is something to cherish I wish you health wealth and wellbeing for you and your family good sir
Judging by the comments. (Including mine.) You might need to do a video on the frog helmet... Because, all I got was, it was used primarily used in jousting tournaments because of the limited visibility. (And, I got that from Wikipedia.)
@jaxryz_380
11 ай бұрын
wasn't so much that it was used in jousting BECAUSE of limited visibility; it was specifically designed for jousting. Tilt your head down to have enough vision on the rideup, then right before you connect tilt your head back up and due to the shape of the helmet your head is pretty much completely protected. It was also often secured to the chestpiece of armor in order to prevent neck injury. These helmets were specifically and almost exclusively jousting equipment, because that's what they were made for
I legitimately shuttered when you showed the Dark Sentials... come in man, alittlewarningwouldabeenawesome.
When you mentioned using it for boss designs I knew exactly who you were talking about
You can also find it on many families' coat of arms throughout Europe.
@rivenoak

surprisingly, because most families were not able to claim such a helmet for jousting activities: peasants were not eligible
I can’t with the helmet modeling in the middle. Had me weak
You pointed up and said "in this case" to the Ruin Sentinels, they were the first thing I thought of when I saw that beast of a helmet.
That brings up two questions: 1. It looks like it's a drowning hazard with that gaping hole... could a water balloon be a legit battle tactic against the helm? 2. I am still having a hard time picturing how you can see through the slit... do you mind sticking a camera up there to simulate how much visibility it gives?
@OldeVikingOriginal

I wonder that too, what about rainy battlefields or mud and rocks thrown about. When he puts it on you can see his eyes inside the helmet, maybe not easy to see on mobile but its there and seems to have quite good visibility. At least good visibility in the horizontal side of things.

@@Maninawig tbf these aren’t battlefield helmets, they were for jousts only so you didn’t need to worry about any of that you only spending like 5mins making passes around a barrier
The protection of such a helmet against swords and spears is superb. A skilled enough worrior would be able to take short glances by leaning down briefly to see where the opponent is and how their posed or moving, so opportunities for an opponent to attack that opening would very scarce and small. As long as the rest of the suit of armor holds up, a knight would be a VERY hard target being that they are said to have been exilent swordsmen.
probably the first analasys of armor in pop-culture that isn't: "this is so unrealistic and unhistoric and i hate it" really love to see it
Looks like it be less likely to catch any splinters from a shattered lance as well
'A Knight Tale' mentions tilting your head back at the last second to prevent lance splinters getting into your eyes. This helmet shows how quickly you can go from "great visibility for a full helm" to "eyes protected".
That's the reason why it's presented in so many standarts
You're right this helmet is everywhere. I looked out my window this morning and they're one was hahaha
Ruin Sentinels lol
Number one reason this helmet is popular: It's cool. That's it.
Cataphractii terminators in Warhammer 40K use a helmet that reminds me a great deal of the frogmouth. A high, forward slanted faceplate ending in a slit in which the visor is contained. Plus, the neck is protected by a gigantic bevor. I’d love to see you tackle Warhammer 40K’s power armor designs and dissect them to tell us what medieval inspirations they took.
I think it's awesome that jousting back in the day is like Nascar today. Trying new attachments and gear to gain peak tournament (battle) performance. Reminds me of A Knights Tale, the movie.
He looks happy no? So glad 🎉
Thats a good look for you Metatron....Love these short clips
I see that helmet and get flashbacks to fighting 3 lanky beyblades at once
Decorates my favorite assassin's Creed enemies. Love them heavies.
When metatron looks at the helmet it is like seeing a father look at his son.
This thing was also used in World War One, and it was extremely effective. If soldiers on the modern battlefield didn't need visibility.
I'm from a lineage of a Scottish noble family and we have a frog helm with a torse on our family crest
This was definitely inspiration for some of the helmets in FF12
I have always loved this design, at least since playing DS2. The Ruin Sentinel boss fight is pretty memorable, at least for me. And that armor design stuck with me, I guess.
I've always thought this kind of helmet looked ridiculous, but I never knew that they were popular.
Monty python and the black knight always comes to mind.
It's also a basic Shape so it helps with poly count, even though that matters less now in the industry
Showing the picture of the ruin sentinels made me realise they wore this helmet, never really noticed as i was too busy fighting them lol
The design of this helmet is genius The low neck, sharp angles was perfect for deflecting a lance and the small eye slit would be difficult it get a lance into or anything else for that matter Though i can't imagine it would be easy to see
I love when form follows function. Doesnt look like it has any unnecessary embellishment. Made for a job and it does just that.
This is an example of an item in the hands of someone who truly appreciates it. It's lovely to see, truly 🤍🗡️🐎🏰
You made me fall in love with this design and the German with the helmet
It's also way easier to model in my opinion, so that's a plus
in black desert for example is an armor that you can wear, in the warrior class looks really cool
Well, at least here in Germany the frog mouth was actually more of symbol of city Patricians, as they jousted a lot more than knights did while knights usually did the Kolbenturnier/club tourney, for which there was a specific helmet that you very often find ok knightly heraldry of the time, at least more than the frog mouth
"Why are cool things cool? -because they're cool. -agreed."
Look at this beats. 😂 great opening line
The ONLY time I’ve ever seen that thing in a game was in Chivalry 2 and I fell in love with it at first sight.
Rule of cool tops practicality every day. This and that classic templar helmet will always be top tier fashion.
As always, the aesthetic is vital to all tactical choices
"That helmet can hold a lot of olive oil"- Vincenzo's Plate. Probably
Also because medieval people obviously knew of the rule of cool, and this helmet is sick
no one is talking about the ruin sentinels, so i will. nice job remembering the ruin sentinels.
Love this helmet design. Been thinking of using it for a sci-fi armour design. 🤔
How do you see through that

My favorite style of closed face helmet!
Will still never replace everyone's favorite bucket.
my favorite medieval helmet.
Helmets like this are the reason Henry 5 was disfigured. No air...hardly any peripheral....he took it off in a battle because it was so impractical, like a lot of people did, and almost immediately stopped an arrow with his face.
It also looks sick
I love the frog mouth helmet and I don't think it gets enough love
It's was also mainly used in the late medieval and early renaissance jousting because it was hard to see out of and mainly jousts
🤣🤣🤣 Raf! I could watch this over and over again!
This helmet seems perfect for looking at the clouds
Where can I find a man like you? Lucky wife!!
As a beginner game developer, I’d put it in my game because it’s unique and sleek. Kind of how weird guns in fps’s tend to stick out
Huh, you share the same mindset my hubs has with ammo. It’s always been a focus on 5.56 and 9mm. We have others, too. But not seriously. In fact, tool and accessory choices were based on this factor.
If it rains... you're doomed XD
That thing could probably deflect bullets with how angular it is
Love frogmouth helmets, you summed it up so well.
The frog mouth helmet inspired the design of the antagonistic Chigs, in the sci-fi series Space Above and Beyond.
The great helm is still to me what a knight looks like
Also it just looks really funny in a cool way
For those so well armoured, vision is of no concern what so ever.
I'm guessing the view from the inside is also pretty good for side to side field of vision. When in armored combat, you dont expect too many attacks coming from a lower angle.
another reason is that its dramatically pointed shape is verry good for shape language character design
I find this type of helmet very comedic
It's used so much because it's easy to model and you don't have to worry about putting much detail on it.
I'm not the authority on knights helmets types in video games but I've literally never ever seen that kind of helmet in real life or games, it's pretty cool though
