Definitely a factor lol As a student game dev I can look at a frogmouth and figure out how to make it out of two, maybe three surfaces, and you could even cheat the eye slit by making it only on the texture and using a solid mesh. Meanwhile something like an armet would take at least twice as many surfaces, and even a simple barbute makes it much more obvious if you use the solid mesh trick.

Not really. The vast majority of games would just have "helmet" object with a ton of skins. Maybe a couple of exceptions for special items, but it wouldn't make one model more or less difficult.

We have many study examples available, like Hollywood, or AVICII. Quantity is an easy target with large cross section. Quality without quantity becomes an elusive influence. Loads of knightly crests were also adorned with this helmet. Due to its marking as a knight class status symbol, my own family crest is adored with them at the top with flourishes, due to the knighting of Senior Guillermo de Jimenez de la Alcalá by the Spanish kingdom of Aragon during the beginning of the Spanish inquisition, which the closeness of the Alcalá family to the Aragonian royal family would continue to the end of the inquisition giving the Alcalá family much reverence that is carried on today with Spanish colonized countries and in Spain itself. The crest itself featuring a castle tower, due to the meaning of the name and a greyhound due to our otherworldly stamina which is actually due to the fact that the family boasts a high number of individuals with type O blood, like myself with type O negative.

Tilt your head down a bit. The helmet was designed for jousting tournaments. You only needed to see enough in front of you to guide your horse and aim your Lance at your opponent. And then just before impact you raise your head again. This now entirely covers your head with a solid screen of hardened steel plate armour maximizing your chances of survival if the Lance hits or breaks and splinters against your head. The helmet was also secured to the breastplate to prevent neck injuries.

wasn't so much that it was used in jousting BECAUSE of limited visibility; it was specifically designed for jousting. Tilt your head down to have enough vision on the rideup, then right before you connect tilt your head back up and due to the shape of the helmet your head is pretty much completely protected. It was also often secured to the chestpiece of armor in order to prevent neck injury. These helmets were specifically and almost exclusively jousting equipment, because that's what they were made for

The biggest factor that made Frog mouth helmets so popular was their ability to shed lances. There were no visors or eye slits for blunted tips or splinters to catch. It's very design directs them away from the eyes. A knight could often slip a pretty painful if not deadly blow to the head. His aponent would still get points, but you lived through it to hopefully joust again. They were not a piece of war fighting armor, strictly for mounted jousting.

The protection of such a helmet against swords and spears is superb. A skilled enough worrior would be able to take short glances by leaning down briefly to see where the opponent is and how their posed or moving, so opportunities for an opponent to attack that opening would very scarce and small. As long as the rest of the suit of armor holds up, a knight would be a VERY hard target being that they are said to have been exilent swordsmen.

Helmets like this are the reason Henry 5 was disfigured. No air...hardly any peripheral....he took it off in a battle because it was so impractical, like a lot of people did, and almost immediately stopped an arrow with his face.

Huh, you share the same mindset my hubs has with ammo. It’s always been a focus on 5.56 and 9mm. We have others, too. But not seriously. In fact, tool and accessory choices were based on this factor.

I'm guessing the view from the inside is also pretty good for side to side field of vision. When in armored combat, you dont expect too many attacks coming from a lower angle.
