I really hope it starts to reach more people through these sort of pieces who might not have otherwise known it was an option, and can see some real families who are flourishing!

Great video. I'm one of the 2013 crew...whoop whoop. 02:10 -02:30. I remember pulling my kids out of school in the July that year and the school had no idea what I was talking about 😅. Things are definitely different now but it was a great experience and we loved how unpopular it was lol ❤

Yayyy 2013 crew 🙌😄. It’s amazing now how little people know about home Ed so can’t imagine what it was like then! Even since I started it seems to be getting more and more popular and there is a big part of me that thinks it’s amazing but a small part of me that wants to protect it from getting too known and scaring the gov even more 🤣🤣

I have finally pulled my 6 year old and 5 year old out of school. I will be following your channel.

Great reaction video! How refreshing to see such a largely positive news piece on home education. Totally agree about Facebook being essential. I’d like to see that man representing the “association of directors of student services” (never heard of them!) provide evidence to back up his assertions. 🤔Big bold claims… 👍🏻

I think it's great that more and more are realising it's an option. I just hope it doesn't mean the government try and clamp down on it more and set more rules and regulations. Is it very regulated in your state or are they quite relaxed about it?

I will share this video along with the failure of deregistration to the school principal. I asked the school (email & letter by post) to take out of register my child's name a week before half term this month. Since then they keep harassing me with texts asking me to provide a reason why the child is not in school. I even asked the principal for the school to stop harassing us and his answer was that it takes a while until the deregistration is completed as they have to fill up some forms. Anyway, sorry for the lengthy message, I'll just share this with them. Thanks ❤️❤️❤️

Sorry to hear you are going through that! If your child is not SEN all you should need to do is send the deregistration email. Schools don't even seem to know the correct procedure a lot of the time, or they do and choose to try and pull the wool over parents' eyes. If you're not already a member I HIGHKY recommend joining the H.E.F.A facebook page, they are amazing with advice on how to respond to schools. Best wishes to you!! 💟

I had been looking for that video! Thanks for finding and reviewing it. I do think it's interesting that guy mention children 'thriving socially' as on X there's been a lot of talk about 'isolation' areas for secondary students who's behaviour aren't ticking all the boxes (even for forgetting stationary at home!)... not sure how this helps them 'thrive' socially...

Exactly! I am always hearing about kids being taken to isolation rooms or away from the rest of the class for one reason or another. Like you say, hardly a way to encourage social skills!

Thanks for your reply! I have sent everything they need, I am a member in all these FB groups, also tried to find one fir my area but no success though. As I mentioned in my initial message, I have sent them the deregistration letter by email and Royal Mail. I know our rights and I'll send a failure of deregistration plus your on point video, if I may. They need to be educated more that the poor children that are going to school every day, just to be destroyed 😔

Sounds like you are well on the ball with everything (unlike the school) good for you! So important to know our rights isn't it. Hopefully you are paving the way for other people who might want to deregister from that school and making it easier for them by educating the school! Thanks for sharing your experience here!

I was pleased for once it was a positive piece on homeschooling, although they had to add at the end that they think mainstream school is the best option.

I don't think the stigma or homeschooling will ever go away, I even had a health visitor assume my 5 year olds language and speech delay was because he's homeschooled.

Yes, you're right, there always has to be at least one little dig doesn't there. Like just in case you were thinking this looks good, please be reminded that school is still the best place! Eugh, I've heard this a few times about HVs not being supportive, which is a shame. I agree, I think it will become more accepted but will always mostly be seen as a second class citizen to school :(

It was positive. I think it’s nice they chose a structured family. Past news articles have been on unschooling in the past. Being semi structured or really structured isn’t as welcoming in UK home Ed communities. We are semi structured and have home Ed from the start. They will always state school is best, they can’t admit that schools fail many children, are underfunded, lack resources etc. Imagidice are what we use if looking for story dice.

Yes, you're right the media does usually seem to feature unschoolers; they probably think it will get more views because it's so much removed from school and people will get outraged by it. So it was nice to show a different side to it. That's great you have home ed from the start, too. How old are your children now? Ohh thank you the Imagidice sound brill!

@@nurturingdiscontent I think there is a big difference but it’s also State dependent. We were in TX, super easy, no oversight, so it was far more relaxed than UK law, and we were in a welcoming community in a great city with a city gov that really engage positively with the homeschooling community. Yes people frown on home school in the US but here in the UK it’s a lot worse with the stigma attached. I think we find resources lacking also but this also reflects that most of the UK home educating community is made up from people who have deregistered from schools rather than educating from the start and that unschooling is more popular.

ahh, that's a really interesting perspective thanks for sharing that. What sort of resources do you feel were available in the US that we don't have here? Sorry for the million Q's, just want to know what we're missing out on here in the UK having only home ed here 😅. It's a good point that resources might be less because unschooling is more popular, although I think unschoolers would argue that it depends on how you define a resource and they would see different things as being resources, like trips out, video games etc. Sorry, rambling now, just find your thoughts v interesting having experienced Home Ed in two countries

I am about to start home education with my 3 year old, had to let his childminder know that he won’t be staying any longer. I feel so happy because I get to make memories, teach and travel with my little one. ❤🥹
