Because most so-called Black Brazilians are mixed race and not fully Black African. The Blackest cities outside of Africa are in the Caribbean like Kingston Jamaica etc.

In Brazil there are even plenty of non black people who practice the Candomblé religion. You can find candomblé centers in some very rich parts of Rio. I know one in the Jardim Botânico neighborhood, where artists from the Globo TV network go to.

This is like your 3rd video of Brazil that I'm watching and I like how you show the more inner-city, vibrant, high rises and everyday experiences of Brazilians and other non-Beazilians in the country. It's a very unique Afro-centric perspective as opposed to most of the videos of Brazil posted by Americans, Canadians or Europeans who always focus on the favelas, crime and poverty to the point where I thought that was all Brazil had to offer. They do the same when they come to Africa anyway. So thanks for this other lense through which to view Brazil , Wode. By the way, I am from Cameroon and have lived in Accra for a few months before and really loved my time in Ghana and hope to visit soon again.

Most of Brazilian people mixed with African race. However, like South Africa where the goal was to prevent the Afro-mixed people from coming together with the Afro-Brazilians, the Colonial powers told the Afro-mixed people that they were than the Afro people. Then the Colonizers villainized the enslaved people.

SO every pig was having a field day with African women ..in bushes ,farms, churches even in the slave dungeons in Africa. AND YOU TELL ME SOME JESUS DIED FOR US ALL? What sin did Segun from what is known as present-day Nigeria commit for him to be chained and pushed in the belly of a slave ship..transported to a foreign land by strange looking pale people to be sold like cattle?

Wode Maya when you come to the U.S.. or any other country outside of Africa get some music, books, pictures etc of African Americans, and all people from the diaspora this way you can understand their history and what we and our forefathers have been through and have overcome and are still overcoming. And most especially what we as a people have accomplished in spite of our names, culture, tribes and basically everything striped away in order to enslave us body, minds and but for the GRACE OF ALMIGHTY GOD our souls.

Thank you, my only brother! I;m an African-Brazilian from Sao Paulo state living in the US for many yrs & I visited Salvador once. I'm more familiar with Southern Bahia, particularly Porto Seguro, where the Portuguese "discovered" Terra Brasilis. It's gr8 to see Salvador/Pelourinho through African eyes. I worked with a girl from Ghana at Rockefeller Center, NY & it was funny to hear her saying "Africa is not a country!" So, Africans also strive to show you're not as homogeneous as people may think, having different ethnicities & traditions. The same happens in Brazil in regards to the "negritude" & brasileiros in general. Axe'!
