There is always a feeling of superior complex that we as viewers sometime associate to tech giga chads like harkirat , but there is always a slow and steady journey to the top which is very difficult to contextualize on youtube. Stay grinding , we all can do this

I am from tier 3 college, working in a startup. I had no idea about this open source contributions, I heard it once with one of my friend , I used to think it as a very tough thing to do. But as you showed in this video it seemed way more easy than what I do everyday in my company. Thanks for removing my fear for open source contribution 😅

See i know coding is good and all. It earns you good money and stuff. But sometimes I would just like to take a pause and think critically about what you are actually saying.. "I look forward to waking up everyday and learn something new, five in head first into the world of sde and gain a new skillset". This sentence intrigued me. Like for some people, the sole interest of their life is to just keep on learning about new stuff and keep on being endlessly stuck in the loop of learning. And they enjoy that, but at the same time they don't have any life. Real life interaction skills of such people must have been really low. And seriously how does one develop the attitude to just keep on going in an infinite number possible languages, and infinitely many existing problems, just to keep on doing things without knowing any end goal. Doesn't that make life meaningless if one doesn't know the end goal to what they are doing? Yeah right now you must be in your 20s, but just think about will this same attitude be present in your 30s? Or 40s?

Hey harkirat, this is one of the most Impactful and needed video on your channel. It's really motivational for someone like me who know bunch of things But haven't dived deeper into the coding. This year I'm starting my college journey as 23 years old and will get into CS cause that's what I want to do, even If it's a tire 3 college I think it will help me, cause I had to drop out of a tire 2 college due to covid and last 4 years were extremely brutal. But this might be a good start to my journey into open source. I loved this video and my confidence after this is📈, hoping for more of such content.

I did GSoC in my 3rd year and was lucky enough to get in through my first try. After that though, a company I was contributing to (apart from GSoC) kinda led me on and then at the end said that they wouldn't be able to hire from IN. Long story short, I'm in my 4th year now and I'm interviewing at a bunch of diff IN startups. So although my initial plan was to get into remote work at foreign orgs straight from college, I couldn't. I won't let this stop me though as I've learnt from my past experiences and have made a list of companies that do hire globally remote and I'll work on their oss projects. Also, your content is really helpful as you talk a lot about the nuances around actually getiing a remote job and hence, thanks.

I am also from an IIT. The fact that Harkirat was working at Goldman and had interned at Mozilla ( both of which are only possible when you are from top IIT's especially Cse) strengthen you resume considerably. Companies value experience. He dosen't mention these things when talking about securing big remote offers, but these things play a huge role. When you have a big company like Goldman in your resume, you will most certainly be preferred over other people who might be better devs than you, not to forget that he is CSE grad from IIT R.

The erosion of professionalism in society is a worrying trend, and it's often fueled by narrow-minded attitudes that prioritize technical skills over a broader understanding of the profession. While coding proficiency is undoubtedly an essential part of being a good engineer, it's by no means the only one. Thus, I find it regrettable that the video you mentioned seems to overlook this fact, and instead promotes a reductionist view of the discipline. I must say, I'm disappointed that such a simplistic message would gain traction in our community. It's vital to keep education and career separate, as they serve different purposes. Education is a means to acquire knowledge and develop critical thinking skills that are essential for success in any field. It's not just about getting a job, but about being prepared to face challenges and contribute to society. Ultimately, if you're qualified and committed to your profession, opportunities will come your way. However, that doesn't mean you should neglect the bigger picture and focus solely on technical skills. A truly professional engineer is someone who understands the broader context of their work, has strong ethics and communication skills, and is committed to lifelong learning. Let's not forget that.
