Why is Norse culture so fascinating?
Why are so many people around the world captivated by the Norse language and Norse history? American scholar and Norse enthusiast Jackson Crawford has his own KZread channel about the Norse language and Norse mythology. Many thousands of followers love his ever more geeky looks at all things Norse. Last week, he visited the National Library of Norway to explain the enthusiasm.
In 2024, we celebrate the 750th anniversary of Magnus Lagabøtes landslov (“Magnus the Lawmender’s National Law”), and the National Library's anniversary exhibition “Upholding the law” will be open throughout the summer.

@@Elya-ou3kf I'm not a viking, but I'm standing on the shoulders of them as an ethnic Swede, just as my Norwegian, Danish and Icelandic brothers and sisters do and the cultural heritage we share

I have almost the same experience. I'm a little bit annoyed we weren't taught any Old Norse at all in school. It's like I've been robbed of my cultural heritage. There was almost no time devoted to other (modern) Scandinavian languages as well. Greetings from a Norwegian.

@@Lightbeerer I'm sorry to hear it was the same in Norway, it makes we wonder how it is nowadays in the public schools around Scandinavia - I assume is even less time devoted to these subjects. If I ever have kids I will make sure they learn more, it's important to cherish the heritage, and it also makes us feel more connected to each other.
