FYI, Tyler, the Rubi's are the same tires pretty much, just created for different retail markets with a slightly different mold. Been running both for 10 years, since Falken was a budget cheap brand. Probably bought 10 sets at this point. Used to be half the price of Toyos. Also, neither are stellar offroad, or in snow. The compound is too hard. BUT, the little bit you compromise offroad, you gain 2 fold in longevity. They'll last twice as long as a bfg, but you only lose a bit of traction. The main way tires wear out is losing rubber on hot asphalt. In the summer desert, you can literally watch them wear away between fill ups. The Falkens are the only, out of many tires, that our tour company has found to hold up.

I first had Falken on my Jeep when they were making their way onto the off road market, loved the tires because of their performance and reasonable price. As their popularity grew, so did their price. and in some cases more than "proven" off road tires. I now run the Milestar Patagonia XT, an under rated tire in my opinion.

I'm running the Rubitreks on my Toyota Highlander. I like the aggressive look and the hwy performance has been great. Since I just recently purchased them I haven't had them off pavement much yet. I mostly do dirt roads and fire roads in the High Sierra. My one adventure so far they did feel good going over rough roads, rocks through creeks... in the slippery mud/clay I was experiencing some slipping and sliding but never got stuck. Great tire in my opinion.

I’ve had both tires and love them both. Off-road performance were very similar but the Rubitrek has the edge on the highway. I think pricing is higher on the wildpeaks because of the 30 day ride and it’s also their best selling tire. When I went to replaced my wildpeaks with the rubitreks, I saw the price difference, saved 102 for my size and have, imo, a better tire which never thought possible. Both are amazing tires! Good video btw.

@mikeanderson7136 The wildpeaks are fine in the snow, but they still can't beat snow tires. For snow, I run Blizzak DMV2. I live in a demver but frequent the mountains in snow storms. If you frequent snow storms, nothing beats snow specific tires. I mainly run wildpeaks in the summer for offroading.

When I bought mine in 285/75/16 I really wanted km2’s or AT3’s but those were both over $50 more per tire. So at a $200 savings I rolled the dice with these. " Tread wear: 660A vs 600A" This means that the Rubitrek is a slightly softer compound geared more towards snow/ice, rain and on road use. Also, a less aggressive version of the AT3W for those reasons overall. Those are the legitimate differences.

Thanks for this video!!! Well, know we know .... why they have the Rubitrek. They are killing off the AT3W. The AT3W is/has gone away and the new AT4W is redesigned to go after the big heavy truck market. It is heavier and the compound is harder with less siping. It will not perform as well as the AT3W on lighter vehicles especially in the wet and winter.(Jeeps, Broncos, smaller trucks and SUV's ... Outbacks) I'm a fanatic about my wet and winter traction, looks like the Rubitrek is what I'll look at for my Bronco.

I have Rubitreks on two of my personal vehicles and recommend them to lots folks that want a good looking tire with decent all terrain capability. Especially if 90% of their driving is on road… why deal with noisy, bad handling mud terrains for the 6 miles a year you actually hit a muddy patch? The price difference of AT3W vs Rubi does seem to be slowly closing, so a set of AT3W may be in my future next time. Thanks for the info. You came to an almost identical conclusion between these two tires as I did based on the available info. Great vid!

On-road manners and a quiet ride are concerns of mine. I dont skimp on tires or brakes, so the price isn't a big concern. I hope they don't kill my mpg too bad. I feel like the Rubitreks are compelling and would do well with the Subaru Wilderness models, but for me, living in the Front Range and often finding myself on gnarly trails with unpredictable conditions, I'm gonna stick with the Wildpeaks. They're just the best tires I've ever had, on any vehicle. While I don't wheel super hard out here, I do suspect they'd be the more reliable of the two for the conditions. And, I'm often alone on those trails so I'd prefer to have the more purpose-built of the two. Great, informative video!

I have the Rubitreks on my jeep liberty in size 235/70-16 XL load rating. They replaced a set of Cooper Disco STT in 245/75-16 LR-E. Much quieter on the road and better fuel mileage. They are about 10lbs per tire lighter too. Been mounted since Dec 2022 and I have no issues with them. Use the Jeep for all around driving, hunting and logging road travel. The Coopers were about 7 years old and pretty worn but they still rubbed in sharper turns, especially in reverse. My Jeep has the OME lift on it. I was actually looking for something a little more aggressive but not a full mud tire and the Patagonia AT pro seemed to be the one but can't find them anywhere so don't know if they have even started marketing them yet. I just got a set of Toyo Open Country RT trail for my ram 3/4 ton and they seem to be really good so those might have worked well too but they are $$$$$. This jeep doesn't need 10 ply tires but like you said when you get to a certain size that is what is available. Have not found the Rubitreks to be lacking in traction yet but I'm not hard core offroading.

Some years back maybe 8 or 10 years ago I considered Rubitreks vs AT3W’s in the 315/75/16 flavor and ended up with the AT3W’s. Back then Falken was not thought of very highly in the truck market, they were more into the budget tuner segment and certain 200 tread wear track tires. At that time both were a lot cheaper than they are now with all the popularity they gained in the off-road segment and Jeep offering them as an OE fitment. That said they are very similar tires as you note and I wouldn’t hesitate to take the Rubitreks on any of the trails I ran my Land Cruiser on. BL, they don’t have the bro appear that AT3W’s have but will take you the same places and maybe save you a couple bucks.

I have the Rubitrek A/Ts on my 2021 Jeep GC, 265/60/18 and yes they are great off road and snow performance, they are also much better for basic on road performance, they handle much better. A couple things to note: 1. I’ve had nothing but balancing issues with a nasty vibration at 75+mph. 2. MPG on hwy dropped ~3-4mpg. 3. I like quiet vehicles and I have to raise my voice when talking. There is not a hum or anything, it’s more over a white noise. Overall the vibrations is probably due to a broken band or something. Unfortunately I did not send in my warranty information so shame on me.

The more solid center of the rubitrek should improve mpg due to lower rolling resistance and life of the tire but less ice traction if the compound in the same. The reason that many snow tires have a solid center rib is to improve their tire life. The blocky tread also lasts better in gravel. (Copper tire tech for many years)

I was a little disappointed because I’ve been looking specifically for AT3W’s and thought that’s what I was looking at, at first. After watching this and doing some research I don’t feel like I’m making any mistake but I always loved the way AT3W looked and I guess I wish they could’ve simulated that same look with the outter tread pattern more open maybe?… but aesthetics are secondary for me and I feel like these look nice too. I will comment later after I’ve had em mounted on my 2nd gen Tacoma for a while! Going from 245 75R16 to 265 75R16

Weight difference between the two would have fuel mileage implications. Im shopping for my next set of tires for my 2.7l TurboMax Silverado. Currently running Michelin ltx defenders which are ~40lbs and the AT tires ive been looking at are between 43 and 53 lbs. Since 99% of my driving is on the road, fuel mileage, noise, and rain/snow performance are more important than off road traction; I figure any good quality AT tire will be better off road than the defenders. Im currently waffling between the rubitrek and the cooper at3 4s in one size taller than stock, 265/70r18. The Falken Rubitrek is about 46 lbs, while the Cooper AT3 4S is about 41 lbs.

fairly common for a tire manufacturer to have similar tires in the same category. For example Goodyear has tire models sold only at walmart and Cooper has models sold only at Pep Boys. There is also OE tires sold only to an automobile manufacturer to be used as the "stock tire" for a vehicle. There are also regional tires not offered in certain continents.

Ok, the Falken AT3W are arguably the best (BTW, the AT4Ws were just released and are now available). BUT do most of us 'need' the AT3W/AT4Ws? If I were an advertising exec, I'd market this way: Wild Peak AT3W/AT4Ws are for those who make their own trails, the Rubitreks are for those who follow trails. I find the Rubitreks to be 90% of the AT3Ws, less expensive, but better on the highway (smoother, less noise - NOT that the AT3Ws are obnoxiously noisy) for most of us who spend 90% ... or even 99.9% of the time on the highway. They still look aggressive, the tread is very similar to the AT3W, and they're 3-peak snow rated just like their Big Brother AT3W/AT4W. I'm not advocating for Rubitreks over AT3W/AT4Ws for those who do hardcore off-road. But I think the vast majority would really like the Rubitrek performance & they [currently] come with a decent cost savings (maybe because few people actually know about them). I found the AT3Ws were more affordable when they were first released, but as popularity grew [at least in my area] the AT3Ws price also grew. A side note: I bought mine at Discount Tire. However, DT "does not have the tires in their system" (neither does Tire Rack - the same owner as DT). BUT, they ordered them from the local distributor. I simply waited overnight for DT to get their hands on them. I've seem posts where people state they were told, at DT, that DT could not get them. That's from a Tire Advisor who either doesn't know - or is too lazy - to order them! Thanks for posting this video b/c there is not a lot out there on these 'unknown' Falkens. P.S. My daughter did not take my advice ... she does nearly 100% highway and just last week she had DT install the new Wild Peak AT4Ws on her 4 Runner. Why? Because they are popular (more reviews) and there's little on the Rubitreks other than dad's advice!😂 In my defense, I did recommend both [either] and I told her that if I were her, I'd go one way or the other.

Aluminum body f150s have notoriously bad wet weather, unloaded, handling characteristics. So the only option to make one handle better isn't tires, it's just a couple hundred pounds in the bed to keep the thing planted or you'll spin it out at 20mph on an on-ramp.

Went for the Rubitrek’s because I wanted a slight road biased AT, and they’ve been OK. Definitely have great traction on wet pavement, ok in snow but lousy on ice (I switch to winters now) ok handling, but took a hit on mpg and actually surprised how noisy they are. Was expecting quieter but they are kind of annoying, way noisier than the Adventures. Guess that’s the price of any real AT. Two of the tires wore very quickly. Going to see about warranting them. Overall kind of disappointed. Wondering if there’s another AT that’s quieter but still capable.

I had the same questionabout these tires. So I did some research. The A/T3WA's are an OEM tire and Toyota uses them on there 2022 and newer Tundra TRD 4X4's and TRD Pro. I know this because I have 2022 Tundra Limited 4X4 with Yokohama street tires. I was going to buy a set until I found out what the difference was. It looks similar but it's lighter, the side lugs are thin like you would find on cheaper off brand A/T tire and a softer sidewall, 2 ply I believe. In my opinion, Toyota contracted with Falken to make a lighter tire for better fuel economy and look like an A/T tire and definitely advise not using it for Off Road use. Also I just recently came across an individual on KZread who has done a comparison between the differences of the A/T3WA and the A/T3W. I have not had the chance to view the video yet.
