Welcome to the future of transportation in Meerut, Uttar Pradesh, India! Join us as we delve into the groundbreaking Meerut Metro, an ambitious rapid transit system that promises to transform the city's commuting experience.
The Meerut Metro is currently under construction in two phases, with the first phase featuring a 23.6 km stretch encompassing 13 stations, connecting Modipuram to Meerut South. What sets this metro apart is its integration with the Delhi-Meerut RRTS, creating a seamless travel experience between regional railway systems and urban metro lines, a first of its kind in India.
In the second phase, the metro will extend further with a second line covering 15 km, adding 12 stations from Shradhapuri Phase-II to Jagrati Vihar. With seven elevated and five underground stations, the total length will reach an impressive 38.6 km.
One of the most exciting features of the Meerut Metro is its operational speed, clocking in at a remarkable 120 km/h, making it the fastest metro in India once operational.
This transformative project was initiated with the laying of the foundation stone by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on March 8, 2019, alongside the RRTS. Construction commenced in June 2019, with an expected completion date before June 2025, aligning with the opening of the entire RRTS route.
With an estimated cost of ₹11,540 crore (US$1.4 billion), the Meerut Metro is a testament to India's commitment to modernizing its infrastructure. Owned by the National Capital Region Transport Corporation (NCRTC) and operated by the Uttar Pradesh Metro Rail Corporation (UPMRC), this metro promises not only efficient travel but also a glimpse into the future of urban mobility.

    Meerut metro is not being constructed by UPMRC, it being constructed and will be owned by NCRTC only. UPMRC will just be responsible for operating the metro.

    ​@@suprashank tbh they should have made the doors fully Red (for line 7) & fully Yellow (line 2) like these Meerut trains. Just having a red/yellow colored line run across the side of the train is very plain looking. Delhi metros also have done this. Very bad color designing.

    What is weird in this? You should have used the word SMART for Meerut Metro as it will utilise single viaduct for operations of both RRTS and Meerut Metro which is essentially saving thousands of crores.

Before state election telengana's previous government showed some interest about making a RRTS in Hyderabad but since the new government has been formed there is no news about it

    That's not weird man. It's the just the same system as Mumbai Local trains but elevated and also having different Gauges for fast and slow. Also there's one big disadvantage, Mumbai fast locals can switch to the slow lines whenever there's a problem with the fast lines. But RRTS can't do it.

    @@stephensaikawa Only difference? RRTS top speed is 160kmph with better facilities while Mumbai local fast traintop speed is 110 mph that too at small sections. Mumbai locals are the lifeline of Mumbai & very essential but RRTS is a different thing.

    no they will not do it as they have to upgrade it whole system of metro lines according to rrts for just small patch that will increase costs but if the project of extending rrts to other surrounding cities of delhi proposed by the government which all integrates with the metro then dmrc will do it

    They have just solved the problem I had been facing for long. No unnecessary stoppages for long route people and so no crowding of train by local short distance people. Different trains for short distance people. I wish this be applied here also!

    @@anandtyagi248 railway line can't be upgarde more than 140 KMPH and its only in certain section the amount of curves and Non fenced area its is dangerous also Rail line degradation will be costly because it will require massive Land acquisition where as RRTS built on Pillars which is along any road also In main railway line u can't give facilities like Platform screen door, Ticket checking gates it will more expensive than building elevated section

    Meerut metro is fastest metro at 120kmph, moreover RRTS will overtake Metro on metro station since metro will stop on loop lines and main track will be used by RRTS for overtake.

    RRTS is too expensive a project! I hope it gives some RoI! Thankfully BLR is creating AC suburban rail (auto-closing doors) with dedicated tracks! For a poor country like India, we can’t waste money on this project!

    RRTS is not expensive. It is required to spread population of NCR and surrounding cities which covers more than 200 KM. Bengaluru urban rail cannot everywhere. And also it is only spread inside the city and costs 15,000 crores. Now compare.
