The Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) has announced the approval of a pod taxi service between the Bandra and Kurla railway stations in Mumbai. Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde gave the green light for the project, which will operate on a public-private partnership basisThe pod taxi service will run from Bandra to Kurla via the Bandra-Kurla Complex (BKC), covering a distance of 8.80 km. It is designed to provide an advanced and efficient mode of transportation for Mumbaikars, offering an alternative to traditional commuting methods. The system will have 38 stations along the route, with a capacity of six passengers per pod and a maximum speed of 40 km per hour. Pod taxis are electric, driverless vehicles that operate on a chargeable battery. They offer a convenient and environmentally friendly means of transportation, and the Mumbai project aims to enhance connectivity and ease congestion, particularly in the busy BKC area. This initiative aligns with the broader vision of improving urban mobility and transportation infrastructure in Mumbai. The implementation of pod taxis is expected to contribute to the city’s efforts to modernize its transportation network, providing residents with a hi-tech and efficient commuting experience. The announcement comes as part of a broader plan to enhance Mumbai’s infrastructure and address transportation challenges in one of India’s most populous and bustling cities.     ​@@wassuphomies263if maintenance staff can reach there then so can they, also you don't really need to damage the final product if you can sabotage it right in the begining of construction.Politicians will do the work for not losing a huge vote bank...I mean for not taking away jobs from hundreds of people There've been cases were coolies at the railway stations have deliberately damaged/stopped the escaltor so that people will take help from them to move the luggage so everything is possible.

    ​​@@sandeshpandit5540not only in panvel in kalyan also for 5.5 KM I have to give ₹40 in sharing, which in total becomes 160 per ride. But in case of the meter total came out to ₹84. I don't even know whether they have a legal auto stand.

    ​@@sandeshpandit5540in kamothe nmmt inaugurate bus service between mansarovar and khandeshwar stations only cost 5-10rs to travel both stations just after 2-3 days local rikshaw union did protest against it and damages nmmt buses made nmmt to shut down its services and local govt police no one did anything about it

    ​@@myselfyuvi Public infrastructure projects like the monorail can't really "fail." The route, especially phase 2, is decent, and connects hundreds of thousands of large colonies to 2 crucial train stations and metro 3's mahalaxshmi station. It just needs better frequency, which they're working on (it's already down to 15 minutes.)

    Valid points. However I still feel pod taxi's would be very expensive given the build cost of 50 cr/km. Extending the monorail could help solve the transport problem and save the monorail as well.

    So basically benfits: 1. breaks monopoly of autos and taxi. 2. Bring in new transport technology in country like it was done for metro 3. More cleaner, efficient and controllable way of travelling. Disadvantages: 1. Expensive to build. Improving current infrastructure is cost effective 2. Challenging. People in india have to grab tge concept as they are used to taxis and autos 3. Costly to operate: i am sure the fares would be high until it is catering to mass routes

    I think the cost of implementing such a project is drastically very high than what returns it provide ....it will literally provides relief to a single block ...not even city I know BKC area has some of worst traffic jams but cannot be solved by this pod taxi .... Maximum trafic jam is created by personal vehicles of people who do not wish to travel by local trains and other public transport so connecting them to kurla or bandra station is useless ...they will never use it

    It still failed, you say that auto rickshaw can't drop you on inner lane but pod also cant go special on internal lane because than its building cost is too high . still relevant and use same purpose auto rickshaw do in small amount and save unnecessary wastage of money, we need to make new cycle lane and dedicated small bus for that purpose and invest that remaing money on other metro line which is more necessary.

    Cycling track is already there in bkc. But the people that are working in bkc is kinda upper class. So this pod taxis will be beneficial for them and also it will reduce many cars as metro is also under construction. And also we have to take this into consideration that gov's main focus is not normal people. It is upper class people. Obv normal people can also will get benefit of this taxis but their fair price will be high as compared to other transport systems.

    Experienced cyclist here! You cannot carry Cycle on Passenger Buses and on Trains as it is not allowed. Plus, you cannot go very far without any sweat on a Bicycle like from either Bandra or Kurla Stations!

    I WORK at BKC - so ill just add something u missed - Since the Diamond bourse at Surat, and booming of IT sectors out of Mumbai, BKC is kinda failing in last mile connectivity. Hence this proposal is made just to give a lollipop to stay at BKC. This wont be made in the next 8-10 years, or maybe never be made due to the Rickshaw Mafia.

    In most of the cases, Mumbai was late implementing any infrastructure, commute plans by years and decades. But I hope this pod-cabs will address the core issue that office goers are facing. Later similar network should be implemented in Andheri East, MIDC, SEEPZ, Airport, Sakinaka, Marol, Powai, L&T etc. It'll be a superhit project.

    Pod taxi is an expensive solution to a problem that doesn't exist. Bus is a cheaper solution, bus with dedicated lanes, trams, even elevated track for taxis/auto will serve same purpose and will be cheaper and reliable. It will have cost of mass transit, while use will be at personal level. Tech will be proprietary, so cost of purchase and maintenance will be high. Its a gadgetbahn.

    BKC me bheed bohot hoti hai say aur evening me. Road chota hai jo bkc ko Kurla se connect karta aur woh road bhi crowded hota hai. Main yeh route pe roz travel karta hu rickshaw lena padta hai roz. Aur busses nahi milti hai sab bhar ke aati hai

    Couldnt they carve out a BRT on the same route(s). Would be faster and keep the traffic away. If BRT is not feasible then I think this will work. Also, they should look at extending to CSIA and University somehow. as next phase.

    The first time i heard about pod taxi was in 2010 when the congress chief minister (Hooda) of Haryana told that Gurgaon will have a network of pod taxies soon. Obviously he was fooling people. Even this is just a jumla and I do not believe anything will happen.

    Bhai me ROZ BKC jaata hu kurla station se Share Autos sirf Point A to Point B jaate hai, One BKC, Standard, Famliy Court, Canteen aaise jagha pe koi bhi keise bhi nahi baithta, sab Fixed routes pe hi jaate hai. galat info mat do.

    Bruh this is still dumb to use. It is expensive and not environment friendly why not add some light rails (aka TRAMS) like they are better option and create bus stop like stops for it on every building instead of making big as bridges of road

    #ASKPT Why are we wasting money on POD taxi or any other last mile, we already have Auto and Toto. If we make lanes and standardize the pickup and drop points with ONDC that will be far cheaper and efficient than POD taxi. The pod taxi will need new vehicle technology, AI training and massive infrastructure investment but if make a proper lane for High Density public vehicle in the main roads with standardize entry, exit or Pick up and drop off points we can solve the huge problem without killing Jobs when needed, and if we add our Indigenous NAVIC system on these we can train an AI to remove these low paying jobs when our country is aging.

    The problem is with land for making lanes We already know how congested Mumbai is and Regarding auto and toto they won't follow lanes even if the government made the roads wider hope it answers some of your questions 😊

    Pods dose not have economy of scale that's why it's a problem instead of increasing bus and building a metro we are building pods which is stupid your point don't address economy of scale stop justifying stupid projects

    You are trying hard to justify a stupid flashy project wasting tax payers money like hyperloop, monorail (location)..they could planned a monorail network within the BKC linking Bandra, Kurla, Sion stations much earlier instead of that dumb location choice of Monorail...ek toh Metro and bullet train complete nahi hua..aur khod do ..majha hi majha 😂.....pura BKC abhi khuda hua rahega for the next 5-6years even after completion of metro🤦‍♂🤦‍♂

    Kya galat bola usne ?? Gujarat ko wapas kardo Mumbai aur phir dekho development kya hota hai , yeh to acchi baat hai Mumbai mein Gujarati hai isliye itni prosperity aayi warna to pura Mumbai dharavi hota.

    @@A_41595 Gujarati’s are in New York also to New York bhi chahiye Kya ? Gujarati travelled across states and countries because Gujarat was not so developed post independence, it’s not the other way around..Varodara and Gwalior has 20-25% Marathi population so by your logic they should be in included in Maharashtra . Marathas has ruled 70% of India so by that logic everything should in Maharashtra. Chennai has significant Telugu population, Delhi has Punjabis so use some common sense. Mumbai is prosperous because of hard working people of Mumbai including Gujaratis not just Gujaratis. And now by definition of residency they are now Maharashtrian because they are living here for generations . You keep crying ..
