Why Is Juan Soto Always Getting Traded?

Спорт

Creator: ‪@BaseballHistorian‬
Juan Soto is on a clear Hall of Fame trajectory. He's been compared to Ted Williams, a player dubbed the greatest hitter who's ever lived. Yet, he's now on his 3rd different team at just 25 years old. That is beyond unprecedented, so how did we get here?

    1. He wants to test free agency. 2. His first two teams wanted to get something return for him before he tests free agency. Really isn’t complicated.

    For me, his career arc is giving me flashbacks to a young Alex Rodriguez. Both immensely talented players that broke into the Major Leagues at very young ages. And both are going to be likely to sign free agency deals that will act to reset the market. (You know Scott Boras is looking at the Ohtani deal and thinking that is going to be his starting point for Soto) But, if any team outside of the big market players, like Los Angeles or New York, attempt give him that deal, I think it will go about as well for them as it did for the early 00's Rangers. As good as Soto is, teams still need to be able to surround him with quality supporting talent. And other than the big market teams, most organizations just don't have the resources to handle his contract demands while fielding a competitive team around him.

    "Why does he get traded" Before watching, I just say: well if you look him up on Baseball reference and check where it says "Agent", you see the name "Boras". And thats really all you need to know. He got an offer to remain with the Nats, a rather lucrative one at that, but he wanted to cash in for more because the offer was, strictly by baseball market metrics, a bit undervaluing him. - Yup this got mentioned. Honestly though it's still hard not to like Soto. Dude went to LA to support his traded teammates in the NLWC in 2021 and I respect him for that.

  • @Wolf-wc1js
    @Wolf-wc1js5 ай бұрын

    It’s simple. Soto and Boras want to test free agency. The Nats were/are rebuilding initially with the plan of doing it around him but after declining their 400+ mil extension offer, they had to trade him to get the most pieces/value back. Padres lost their window to compete with their tv deal going under so they needed to restock on pitching depth and cut payroll

    I always keep on hearing "put random power hitter in Yankee Stadium and he'll hit 100 homers with that short porch", and yet, it never seems to come to fruition. I doubt Soto will be any different in that regard. When hitters with elite power make good contact, they end up hitting no-doubters, when they don't make good contact, they either pop the pitch up or hit a grounder.

One their own each position would be worth $350M Soto can’t be do that, he can only offer his elite offense. Soto is 4 years removed from his prime, while Ohtani is in the middle of his prime at 28. Furthermore Ohtani's pitching is a bit of a question mark with him undergoing his second TJ surgery and not pitching in 2024. Don't expect Ohtani to ever have another season like he had in 2023 where he was premier both on the mound and at the plate. The reason Ohtani got the massive contract anyway was the deferred payment construction and the fact that half of Japan will be watching the Dodgers home games and buying the Ohtani merchandise. The reason Soto will be a harder sell is business not baseball. And by the way, the deferred pay for Ohtani makes the value of the contract as of today, at a yearly inflationrate of 3%, about $420 million.

    Not sure why there is so much hype around Soto. I watched every game last year in SD. He cannot carry a team. He is always looking for the walk, he is a horrible outfielder, watched him lose a few games because of his glove AND he’s a poor base runner. Yes, he hits moon shot home runs that look great on ESPN but not sure why ESPN doesn’t show his defensive blunders and lame base running? My opinion is if you want that crazy contract you should at least be elite on BOTH sides of the ball. So many times last year I was like poor Soto he should have taken that Nats contract because nobody gonna pay him that now. For the team that signs him to that massive contract, remember this, you’ll be paying all that money for a DH as his defensive liability will only get worse.

    My guess is that Soto won't be that impressive as a Yankee. Sure, he'll walk a lot, punch a bunch of home runs, but his BA will not be in elite territory and the KOs will rise. Yanks may very well find the playoffs again, but chemistry could be an issue. Look at Stanton. Plus, he will be in a more vulnerable spot health wise. I could be wrong, but I won't be shocked if I'm right.

    I'm guessing, like I said, but the Yuckees have bit of a tradition of acquiring players who don't live up to expectations. Stanton being of recent vintage. Do Chase Headley or Jacoby Elsbury ring bells? I know, older players and Soto does have his youth in his favor, but regardless......I will not be surprised by a disappointing year overall. Like I said, I could be wrong. The beauty of baseball...@@yanks2077

    Unfortunately he won't help us if Cashman won't get pitching. The Yankees traded away their entire pitching staff for Soto and now they don't have enough starters to make a rotation. Soto could go 4/4 with 4 HR in 162 straight and the Yankees as they're currently constructed will only win 60 of those games.

    Simply put, it’s because the Padres were being idiots. The first time went after him rather than bolster their starting rotation, which cost them the pennant, and the second trade was in order to quickly get pitching depth. But man, I really hope the Yankees don’t extend him, Soto doesn’t belong on a toxic team that can only think about the big moment.
