ISO JOE! That's what he is known for. One of the best all time iso scorers in league history. If he had done that in LA, NY, or Boston, instead of Atlanta, he'd be recognized. It wasn't until he went to Brooklyn that he started appearing in commercials with Lebron, Wade, and Melo.

As petty as it sounds, I think a lot of it had to do with his name...Joe Johnson. That's about the most generic name in the US other than maybe John Smith. That's the type of name you see in the checkout line of Wal-Mart. He was undoubtedly a great player and fringe Hall of Famer, he was ahead of his time and would have been an absurd menace in todays game. He was basically the James Harden of the 00's.

Few reasons, like you said in this video, he peaked on the hawks but they sucked at the time. Honestly I think his plain ass name “Joe Johnson” was very forgettable, and he wasn’t doing anything crazy exciting or athletic like jumping out the gym for dunks. Just a very very solid player who went from role player to star on a small market bad team and then back to role player. But he’s one of the more underrated players in nba history. As a Celtics fan I’ll never forget the time he single handedly destroyed the Celtics. I was like who is this guy and why is he unstoppable against one of the best Celtics rosters all time. I’m glad they signed iso Joe for one more season. Even if it was just to come off the bench. He’s a legend who will he forgotten by future generations. You just had to see the guy play. Straight buckets in his prime on the hawks

Is it weird that I know more about Tony Delk (Kentucky) and Rodney Rogers (Wake Forest) because they were big college stars? If you say "Joe Johnson" to me, I think "Hawks all star who never won anything"...also...his name is Joe Johnson which issues right up there with John Smith and Mike Williams as generic phone book names (I'm Gen X, I remember phone books AND pay phones). I literally think the unassuming name and lack of a signature look (Harden's beard) or nickname did him in...I mean at this point Xavier McDaniel, and Ricky Pierce are more memorable.

joe johnson was a pure shooter, and it seemed like 90% of his shots were swishes and never hit the rim.. if he had stayed with the suns with amare and nash, suns would have won multiple championships. if people remember correctly, j.j broke his cheekbone in the playoffs playing against mavericks when a very dirty player, jerry stackhouse hit him from behind when joe was up in the air. he was a solid bb player, 6'8", and he could shoot lights out from 3's.
