Why Is God So Hidden?
coldcasechristianity.com/writ...
In this episode of the Cold-Case Christianity Broadcast, J. Warner discusses a common objection to God’s existence: If God exists, why doesn’t He make His existence more obvious? Why are there times when God seems completely absent? J. Warner provides several good reasons why God might remain silent or elusive in order to accomplish a greater good, and J. Warner provides an analogy to help explain why God may seem “hidden”.

I’m a Christian and have been for years but still have doubts sometimes about the Gospel and even about Gods existence but deep within me I know I believe! Even when I doubt Gods existence I realize it is obvious he exists by the order of the universe and things like the human brain, reproductive system, the sun knowing when to set and when to come up, the ways. Baby forms in the room etc! Anyone if anyone reads this please pray that God will continue to reveal himself to me and help me overcome my doubts! God bless!

That’s a real position in Christ, Jesus that too often goes unsaid. I’m often praying to the Holy Spirit to help me with my doubts and strengthen me in my faith. Most Christians don’t like to openly discuss their feelings, like these, because they fear that God our Father would be displeased. Nothing could be further from the truth. So, what you’ve stated is true. God has revealed enough of Himself through ALL of creation, “For since the creation of the world God’s invisible qualities-his eternal power and divine nature-have been clearly seen, being understood from what has been made, so that people are without excuse.” - Romans 1:20 (NIV) So, continue to walk with and grow in Him, my Sister-in-Christ. Continue to seek Him with your whole heart and know that as you open more of yourself to Him; He reveals more of Himself to you. That’s the difference between religion and relationship. In religion we tend to follow blindly; whereas in a relationship - a real relationship with God - we seek, we learn and we grow; as in any relationship we’ve attained in life that we hold so dearly in our hearts. And the blessed honor and privilege of THAT… to know that God loves me and is mindful of me in such ways… The God of ALL CREATION 🤯🥰❤️‍🔥🤲🏾🙏🏾💯 Wow. Just… wow. I’ll be praying for and with you, my Sister. 🙏🏾😌

Mark 9:24: "Immediately the father of the child cried out[a] and said, “I believe; help my unbelief!” As someone who struggles with this as well, I often find myself coming back to this verse. It is apparent even in those times (even more so in the Psalms perhaps) that people have struggled with this for millennia. I guess what I am trying to say is that you are not alone. :) I know this is coming a year after the fact, but I felt compelled to leave my comment.

He was despised and He was rejected, a man of sorrows, acquainted with grief. His village dishonored Him, His family said he was sick, the religious leaders said He was demon-possessed, and the other civil rulers said He was a dangerous madman. But that's not the question we have. We wonder why our desperate prayers, offered in child-like faith, so often go unanswered. We wonder why John 14:14 and Mark 16:18 don't work for us. We have Jesus as our quarterback, and He won't throw a pass - and the bad guys are not only (apparently) kicking our tails, but we have five blind refs who won't call penalties on them. We wonder why God doesn't weigh in - even in His hiddenness - and help us when we call.

He came to earth and was not believed. We put him to death. He gave us an entire guidebook to live by, and few people even read it. He gave us a world to enjoy, and we call it an accident. And if He doesn’t jump when we ask for something, we act like spoiled brats. He created each of us, and we don’t acknowledge it. I think He has made himself known.

God wants us to freely and unconditionally love as He freely and unconditionally loves us. Conditional love is easy, unconditional love can be hard but it means so much more. God wants us to mean it, not just love Him out of ease. He's not a low hanging fruit. He is a choice fruit at the top of the tree. We work a little bit harder to get to Him and we are rewarded graciously for it. And I love that analogy about your wife bring gone for 12 hours but coming home at the end of the day. This life is so short compared to eternity. Any true Christian who loves God should be okay with Him being "gone" for 12 hours knowing that He'll come back "tonight." I have been given enough proof that God is real and that Jesus is the way to Him. I should be satisfied if He "leaves" for 12 hours [80 years] then comes back home at the end of the "day." Because not only has God alluded to that, He has directly promised it to us. Sadly we're not this faithful and luckily God understands this and gives us proof throughout our entire lives.

Sometimes my prayers seem to go unanswered- that God is not present. But I think your explanation helps us understand that the Lord wants us to love Him “in good times and bad”. To love Him with all our heart, mind and strength. Thanks for all your great work!!

When God became a man Himself, the experience proved to be nothing short of pure agony. In man’s time-honored fashion, they would unleash the whole arsenal of weapons against Him: misrepresentation, slander, and accusation of treason. The stage was set for a situation without parallel in the history of the earth. God would visit creatures and they would nail Him to the cross!” 😭

To sum this up so it's easier to answer if you're ever asked this question, God doesn't want people to follow Him blindly. He wants His followers to follow Him because they truly love Him. If He revealed Himself to the world almost everyone would follow Him out of obligation or fear of punishment. On top of that God doesn't want to force anyone to do anything. If someone doesn't want to follow Him that's their choice and they're free to live their life as they wish.

I tell people that God being visible doesn't mean people would be more willing to have a relationship with Him. As it is, many that disbelieve in His existence believe that God would be responsible for the evil in the world if He existed. Being visible would more than likely make people more likely to blame Him, which would make a willing relationship with Him even less likely.

The thing is that Jesus did not ONLY preach about Love. He preached about many subjects. In fact, He preached about Hell than anything else. If you only see God as Love, then you are restricting God to only one of His many attributes. While God is Love, He is also Justice, Truth, and Righteousness. If God were only Love, then no one would go to Hell. However, God allows people to make up their own minds about whether to follow Him or not. This is where Justice comes in to play. People making up their own minds are what gets them sent to Heaven or Hell. God does not allow people to enter Heaven anymore than He sends them to Hell. People are given enough information to make their own decisions.

God is not hidden. In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was God, and the Word was with God, and the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, and when He went back to be with the Father, He left His Spirit to comfort us. And God is Spirit. So God is with us today, not hidden, but in Spirit. Also the stars declare the glory of God, the creation and nature are the work of God. Those who don't want to believe are without excuse. They need to seek, and they'll find. But some don't want to, because they want to be their own god.

Revelation 21 1Then I saw a new heaven and a new earth, for the first heaven and the first earth had passed away, and there was no longer any sea.2I saw the Holy City, the new Jerusalem, coming down out of heaven from God, prepared as a bride beautifully dressed for her husband.3And I heard a loud voice from the throne saying, "Now the dwelling of God is with men, and he will live with them. They will be his people, and God himself will be with them and be their God.4He will wipe every tear from their eyes. There will be no more death or mourning or crying or pain, for the old order of things has passed away."5He who was seated on the throne said, "I am making everything new!" Then he said, "Write this down, for these words are trustworthy and true."6He said to me: "It is done. I am the Alpha and the Omega, the Beginning and the End. To him who is thirsty I will give to drink without cost from the spring of the water of life.7He who overcomes will inherit all this, and I will be his God and he will be my son.8But the cowardly, the unbelieving, the vile, the murderers, the sexually immoral, those who practice magic arts, the idolaters and all liars--their place will be in the fiery lake of burning sulfur. This is the second death."9

We rarely take into consideration the times that God has revealed Himself and was rejected by those He revealed Himself to. Many of the angels in His presence in heaven rebelled against Him and fell with Satan. Adam and Eve were in His presence in the Garden of Eden but chose to rebel against Him. He revealed Himself to Pharaoh and the Egyptians and they rejected Him. He revealed Himself to the Jews rescued from slavery and they rejected Him to worship a golden calf. He revealed Himself as Jesus the Messiah and they rejected Him and killed Him. He revealed Himself through the apostles and most of them were martyred. He reveals Himself to the world through His creation, our conscience, and through the saints, and is still rejected by the majority of the world. Therefore, while God is still there, remember that there may be a reason that He is hidden at times. But, take heart that He is not from any one of us. He lives in us as Christians and is always with us. Be at peace. Be encouraged.

God isn't hidden to everyone, that's an unearned assumption. Whenever someone tells you that they saw God, heard God, or saw Him in their dreams, they get called crazy. Is everyone who claims to have seen or heard God telling the truth? Probably not, but it would be misguided to assume that *none* of them have.

  • @aland4092

God isn't hidden. If you know the bible you know we are cursed and sinful people. God is Holy and cannot even look at sin. When Jesus was on the cross and the sin of the world was laid on him. God had to turn away from him. That's when Jesus said father why have you forsaken me. And Jesus never sinned. We sin on a daily basis. We dont want anything to do with God until we have problems. When things go bad we want God. But any other time we wont claim him. To an almighty eternal God . We are walking talking piles of sand that will be dead in 5 mins. Why would an eternal almighty holy God care about your problems when you wont even acknowledge him any other time. You want God to be there for you then be there for him. Hes laid out a plan that's for our salvation that we may be reconciled to him. And it's not that difficult. Believe that Jesus paid the price for your sin our sin. That through his sacrifice we are saved. That God cared enough about us to come to earth and pay the price for our sin. And give up his own life on this earth that he wanted more than anything . To be able to walk with us commune with us fellowship with us. To be among us. But he was rejected and scorned and put to death by the very ones he was sacrificing himself for. How would you feel about that ? If you were in that position. You woulda said screw that. I mean what do you expect God to do. Take care of our every need when we cant even say thank you Lord I love you lord what can I do for you today lord . We serve God He doesn't serve us. And until we can get that straight. We dont deserve anything but the death that he suffered for us. If he is hidden it's because we have hidden him. How would you feel if everyone you knew always came to you with there problems and you do what you can to help . But they dont say thanks they dont acknowledge that you even helped them at all. And when things are going good then you dont even hear from them. And on top of that talk crap about you and curse your name when things go wrong. At what point would you say screw all of you I cant do this anymore. I'm guessing pretty quick . If you claim him and serve him and love him . He will return it tenfold. It's on us not God that things are messed up.

There's several verses in the Bible that state that time for God is different than how we experience time. What seems like an eternity for us passed in the blink of an eye for God. What scientists have discovered about the age of the universe is most likely correct and the discrepancy in the Bible is due to God trying to explain to us something that at the time we didn't have the knowledge to understand. Most Christians don't subscribe to the idea that the world is only 6 thousand years old.

God hides because he wants to see that we love him really geniunely like 60 year old man would present himself to 20 year old girl as poor (even if he is really wealthy). If You "dont want to beilive" - well, he loves us and doesnt force us to. Here is problem. For those who beilived God offered heaven. Isnt it just the same bribery? And author also presented argument that if a gun would be pointed at a head and love confession would be demanded, that couldnt be understood as love. Indeed. People are also blackmailed by eternal tornement (not even so much for wrongdoings, but rather for making Your own beliefs), so many people would choose to beilive (or better to say, to participate in religion) just to satisfy Pascal`s wager. Is it really freedom of choise? No, it is blackmail and coercion in purest form. If Christian loves God to avoid hell, is it love? About evidences - i would say they lack. Arguments that object God`s presence are good enough too to be in doubt (whatever You say). Contradictions, philoshpical issues, some scientific prooves (which may even be wrong, but as i will write at the bottom, its about a mistake). And atheists are not only players in this game. Consider Muslims. They also consider arguments like "a garden cannot plant itself" (even though universe is not as much systematic as Christians assert - just big instances of matter interacting by physical forces, it is forest, not garden with sysyem). But get deceived (maybe) by quite worthy explanatory system too. Besides, many of them are under unstopping pressure of their government. It is interesting that Muslim prays to very same God-father and beilives that he was answered, then he behaves following that answer. So did they deserve too? (Escpecially but not only those who born in pre-Internet era) Or those who born in territories where Christianity wasnt even heard like American natives. Or those who lived in communist countries. And same with atheists and agnostics. To be deceived, to beilive to a lie or unintentional mistake (simply - to make a mistake) is a such a terrible mistake that deserves a punishment like promised by Bible? I can make wrong conclussions when i study physics, maths, geography, i can form some wrong views about the world and thats okay. Until it touches subject of religion. Vae illis qui erraverunt! (rephrased vae victis - woe to those who was mistaken). Or peoples that existed even before Christianity reached them. Al Capone said: "I prayed to God to get bicycle. Then i found out that this is not how he works, so i stole bicycle and prayed for forgiveness". Isnt that fine that such a man has more chance to be in community with righteous that just who didnt beilive or even prayed to God but not exactly Jesus (yes, i am about Muslims again)? He also said that limited evidence of his wife is that how she treats him. But would You accuse a man for suspictious if quite many strange signs appear? Thats it. And finally. 4 stage of cancer. Maybe yes, it were prayers. Maybe not. 10% chance is not 0%. I dont know! Isnt it okay to dont know? Efforts of relatives and doctors i see with my own eyes, while efforts of God are absolutely hidden. Hide-and-seek. Of course, if prayers dont save someone who had even better chance, thats means nothing. If a kid get cancer on the other way (or cerebral palsy) for no reason?.. Well, God just checking Your belief. Let alone that Christians offer consider as Divine interventions far less significant signs. If i get something good in life, well... maybe because i worked for it or REALLY just got lucky (sometimes pushing out of road competitors)? Is luck really impossible. Also satan, mafia members, fascists and some other bad guys also beilive in God yet it doesnt prevent them from commting crimes. Sometimes even with him on hif flag. What proves that God`s disclosure is not necessarry to stop creatures from doing crimes. And - its interesting that Christians tell how bad people are but it was God to create people such that they even theoretically cant not to sin. Same if i made 6-facet gaming dice of wood and would be angry at that because it cannot show "7". Also about Pascal wager - in case if God doesnt exist, atheist has only single life to spend - so what wrong with him if he does stuff he really enjoys but Christianity prohibits it "just because". Of course, i dont mean criminal or alike deeds. Sorry, maybe these thoughts are good, maybe not, but it doesnt prevent them from appearing. I am agnostic.

You have a misunderstanding of the gospel. People don't go to hell because they reject God. They go to hell for willing sin that they themselves know is wrong. All people will be judged by our knowledge of God and by our conscience. Read the book of romans if you want a good argument for why people go to hell who do not know God or reject him.

Consider the ultimate example of the opposite, which further proves your point. After Armageddon, Jesus will set up his kingdom on the earth and will rule the whole world. He will rule with a rod of iron. Crime will be punished swiftly, and severely (by today's standards) yet appropriately. Even slander will be punished with a public beating. Those entering this new kingdom will be only believers. But the mortal believers will have children who will have to make their own choices and can reject God. But he will be ruling the earth. So they will be overwhelmed and will not be able to reject him openly. But at the end of that period, Satan will be released from his temporary prison and will openly defy the king of the earth. Then those descendants will all be able to join the rebellion (and many will), or choose to continue loving God. During that 1000 years, when people will once again be living many times longer than we do today, God will not be hidden, but will be sitting on the throne of David in Jerusalem. By God doing so, the critic of God's current and past "hiding" will be utterly without excuse. It will prove that whether God is hidden or not, those who hate him and want to reject him will do so either way. But those who choose him will love him either way.

Come on folks. God is hidden because someone made it up. That's why you are asked to use faith. If no faith then you see no God. Just that simple. The only reason GOD doesn't show himself is there is nothing to show. I don't know why people when they reach adulthood don't question this more seriously. Use your head.

Come on bill seriously dont be lazy with your foolish ignorance, obviously there is God the Christian Faith is from reason a reasonable faith like trust and loyalty, For God himself has shown himself He is the one who make Himself known to Humanity. The Bible the Record and witness of Prophets and thier prophecy fulfilled show divine revelation and inspiration and by the witness of the Apostles about the Son Jesus Christ, God has already shown himself and will live with Humanity as Lord Jesus Christ return and God will renew His creation the New heaven and New earth, and again God has shown Himself to Prophets and to Apostles through His Word who became flesh in which is Jesus Christ, God has clearly shown his Glory throughout creation as Everything in History, science, and experience of witness and their testimony even in archaeology like dicovery of sodom and gomorrah, hittites, discoveries in Jerusalem and many placies because of the Bible and flood geology shows the catastrophic flood. GOD is obviously present for not hidden but has shown if you seek you will find He has already shown the truth and has proven everything as His will be done. He has shown this things glorify the truth so that all wil know Him, God already know people like you and what further things that you want to be shown for what just to satisfy your ignorance even the rebel the devil rebellious and still oppose just like people like you who are rebellious towards Him. Evil satan will be destroyed by God's Goodness and Holy through His words and Christ in the day of Judgement. There is no invention but only atheism in which an invention of people that are deniers who dont want to believe and delude themself on problematic theories like evolution, come on people and folks seriously just look around the complexity of life random mutation out of lucky for many years is very problematic and nothing cannot produce anything, as one of the commentors here says people like you are just lazily and willingly close their eyes.

If Jesus wasn't resurrected then the witnesses to it would not have said he was when they were persecuted and martyred for saying so, But they continued to say he was. So he was. So there is a God. It's as simple as that, really. So you're wrong.
