Yes!! I feel the same. I'm 39 and lately I've found myself unable to even stand Gen Z. They are exhausting. They are literally making the world a worse place while also ironically going around with nostalgia for the 90's and Y2K. Just like how they make fun of how millennials dress while unironically spending all their money on clothes from the 90's and 2000's. It's nice to see that not all Gen Z suck. But wow...a lot of them do. I hope they can turn things around because all their TikTok nonsense is literally ruining culture.

The unfortunate thing about Gen z is that they are still considerably young. And when we are young, we do stupid things. You used to be able to mess up and grow from it without much problem. The only difference now is that the whole world gets to see and remember their mistakes. I’m sure most of these people will grow out of having all these labels but it’s going to stick with them forever.

I think they're missing the other half when it comes to especially the concept of mistakes, among similar things. They're acting as if the mistake is fixed, among other things. Like they can't grow from it. For example, if someone calls me stupid, there's nothing, besides myself, that can keep me from learning and being smarter. If I'm bad at something, I can learn and become better. The solution, in a sense, is to remember you can level up. You can choose to. But perhaps some don't want to, for whatever reason.

Now people obsess over how others see them and label them.

@@genzi78514 Nobody got to be a special class so they fixed it. Making trans no longer about folks with legit gender dysphoria opened the door for every uncomfortable teen and attention seeker to hop on the LGBT train. You can't disprove feelings. You can't claim gay when your dating habits are straighter than a ruler, and the pan/demisexual stuff was ignored by most or seen as dumb. But you can say you're trans, dye your hair, still be as straight as a ruler, but now you can also call yourself gay (it's a fun 2 for the price of one!) It's like a free for all with everything "the community" used to represent. Plus, the pretending to be another race thing didn't work out, but this one did. Notice that was attempted too. Victimhood is worth woke points and these sad folks are cashing in. I've heard enough (girls mostly) express pure disgust for straightness, whiteness, maleness and feminity some years back, but instead of growing out of it the media reinforced it as fact. But unlike just being a goth or emo kid, they're screaming about pronouns and chopping off boobs. I miss when bad tattoos was the worse case scenario.

When I was young, I used to play with the guys at school (im a girl) and many people would question why I'd be doing boy things or play with them, asking me if I thought I was a guy. Around this time I found out what 'transgender' is, and for like a year I was convinced I was trans. (I didn't really know how it worked. Just thought u could say u were meant to be the opposite gender). After getting through that whole phase I realized how stuff like this influences Young people. Being into things guys like more doesn't mean IM a guy, its just preference. I think a lot of Young kids get confused with things like this, and because kids are more aware of internet trends and labels, they convince themselves that they fall into that specific label

This is my main thought as well. If a biological female truly wants to be considered a male and vice versa, I will try to accommodate, but I’m concerned that a portion of the group might be not quite fully understanding what gender dysphoria is (Since, really, who can perfectly understand another’s feelings?) and think the line between having gender dysphoria and just not conforming to gender stereotypes is a lot blurrier then it is.

I finally got sick of it and told her that I can be all that and still be a female. Same way a guy can be more into stereotypically feminine things but still be a guy. Its not dress making you female, nor fixing a car making you a male. She finally shut up with this trans forcing. She can be whatever but dont try to enforce it on others. Of course I think they should be able to use their freedom of speech, but they can surely do that without being demanding towards strangers. It's simple, just politely give the person your name and ask if they can address you as such. Keep your pronouns between you and your social circle, no need to be aggresive It gets us nowhere. And I just hate how people expect everyone to have the same opinion as them, there are over 8 billion people on the planet, how could all of us have the same opinions?? I think teenagers are obsessed with labels in general. It's nothing new. When i was growing up, you were either a normie, goth, emo kid, nerd, jock etc and of course you grew out of those labels when you became an adult. The problem these days is that kids refuse to mature and move on from those labels either because of mental illness, social media making those labels trendy or social pressure to conform to the alphabet mafia. It's gone from a phase to a way of life in this day and age.

I have not found labels to be something teenagers are obsessed with, but young children are. It’s normal for them to also create fictional identities for themselves, and generation Z was victim of pretty much having enough of their childhood taken away by both their parents believing that they should do so in order for them to grow up to be normal healthy adults and not the adult children, and school administration believing they needed to hunker down on how much homework they hand out and reducing hours of Recess drastically. It’s crucial that a child has plenty of free time to think on their own and have unstructured play, but if these needs aren’t attended to, that’s how you get adult children. The thing is, forcing a child not be a child doesn’t help them be an adult when they need to be an adult. That’s the whole point of childhood, they be a child, not pretend to be an adult when they’re not in adult yet.

I hate labels because when I'm labeled, I'm not a socially adept man, I'm an "Autistic person pushing the boundaries". When I'm labeled, I'm not a person walking down the street, I'm a "Racial minority accepting a systematically oppressed neighborhood". When I'm labeled, I'm no longer a person with my own thoughts, ideas, dreams, and story, I'm whoever they want me to be like a puppet. Yes, that is a very sad truth. One of the main reasons that my hopes for todays youth is fairly low is because of social media and the rather harmful effects that it has on (especially) the gen z. Most social media platforms have hundreds of people and influencers trying force others to use their preferred and made-up pronouns, and this insane idea that are several different genders (and that it’s ONLY a social construction). Also this (idiotic) misbelief that men and women are “biologically equal” in almost every way, it’s spreading like wildfire… And yes, this is all too often done with narcissistic behaviours. I rarely see younger KZreadrs bringing this up. Therefore, I encourage you all to take Misha very seriously on this matter. She knows what she’s talking about. Narcissistic behaviours is always domestic and harmful. It can also be done in subtle ways, and then it’s more manipulative.

Mental disorders are just labels. You can't prove you have a mental disorder. They are merely labels used to group patients with similar problems in order to help with research and standardized care. You "have" a mental disorder if a doctor labels you with one, but that doesn't prove anything. All it proves is that according to that doctor you do indeed feel depressed and that it's bad enough to warrant professional care.

I totally feel you, and it definitely can feel comforting if there is some sort of umbrella term for a psychosis you’re going through. I recently found out that the mental health issue that I’ve been dealing with my whole adolescence was borderline personality disorder, which I’ve been successfully healing through. It was the one and only thing that seem to match up with absolutely every single symptom I’ve ever experienced with my psychosis, I knew I had a lot of childhood PTSD, but just everything that was listed in the video I watched about BPD really helped That aside though, I’m personally against this whole concept that we need to “prove “that we’re not crazy, because that’s not our responsibility, it’s those other peoples fault that they don’t see you as someone who is deeply sad and scared and needs help, that’s their problem that they’re not willing to see through to see you as a person that just needs love and comforting, There’s something wrong if people can only legitimize your emotions if you have a “official diagnosis “. I’m sorry, even though we call it meant to illness, that does not mean it’s a disease. You do not need to be properly diagnosed, and I think that’s a huge problem with society today and especially the psychiatric community. You’re so over obsessed with labels, that they forget that many of these “separate disorders “actually have the same route, which is really the point, we’re supposed to go to the root and cure what started there, not just find new labels for things. In other words, you don’t need proof that you’re not crazy, because you’re not crazy, it’s OK to be depressed, it’s OK to be sad, it’s OK to be psychologically not OK. It’s OK to just not be OK in general, and if it nobody else except that, that’s not your problem, that’s absolutely 100% theirs. I know it feels good to prove something to these people who have denied you for so long, but the truth is, they ain’t worth it if you have to prove to them that you have a psychosis rather than them taking you seriously for you just admitting that you’re depressed without any sort of diagnosis background. I sincerely wish you well and much healing ❤‍🩹 ♥🫂

Hi Misha! Recently started watching your videos after KZread recommended one. And I’d like to add that I think a part of how social media in particular fuels the love of labels is bios. People are asked to boil themselves down to the simplest form while still being encouraged to stand out. So the more labels you have the more you stand apart from the rest of the noise. Absolutely loved you point about narcissistic behavior though, definitely playing a bigger role in society as a whole currently.

  • @hameley12
    @hameley12 Жыл бұрын

Thanks so much, Misha for stating this. It's a chaotic world today. It is so easy to get caught off guard and then be called out. A few days ago I went to the coffee shop, that I frequent often, and there were people talking and a young woman was trying to speak up and the team behind the service counter were unaware. I guess all the noise from the AC, ovens, etc. I spoke up louder "Excuse me, this young lady needs your help" She looked up at me really angrily and I could feel her hands over my neck. The manager came over and asked if he could help her. I looked over and apologized, got my coffee and bagel and left. They know who I am and that I am always helping newcomers into the coffee shop. But I could literally feel her frustration following me on my way to work. I guess that's what I get for trying to help. Or it could be because I was taught to greet people as Miss, Missus, Maam, or young lady for the men Mister, Sir, young man, or Senior, regardless of how they self-identify. We are all unknown faces in a crowded space of 7 -8 billion people in the world.

They are still human and deserve to live their private lives, as long as they don't impose or force others as 'This is me, my pronoun is _____' As a team we knew and we didn't mind, because these labels didn't define them. I really only see them doing that to close friends, and I like how they perceive that not everyone will care that they are genderfluid or trans and doesn’t want to be called by their dead name. My friends do really understand the complexity of labels and how it might be difficult for everyone, so they have learned to accept that society is this way, and you can’t keep reminding everyone about your pronouns or sexuality.

I think traumas, anxiety and other illnesses come from personal experiences in real life, living in 2022 we are often more "privileged" compared to our parents and grandparents who got tougher growing up with bigger problems. Never gave it a thought. It didn't really matter for me. And now I see thousands of people on the internet who are posting dozens of colourful flags, creating neopronouns, arguing over "problematic" things and trying to be oppressed all the time. At this point, if you don't have a label or don't feel the need to point it out, they either decide for you or consider you weird. They make this "queerness" their whole personality and only focus on representation in media. Feels like the whole world had gone mad. I believe it was much easier 5 or 10 years ago.. People seemed more easy.

I was always confused by this. Why should I force to label myself? For example, why should I be in Asexual spectrum if I am not interested in relationships for now, or never gave it a thought, or don't think that sex matters? Why should I analyse each type of feelings, to distinct different types of love? People are so happy to accept themselves and have representation in media, they are fully aware of their pride flags and clear definitions, but for me, it's just terrifying. I don't want to be labeled, I don't want to realise that I am 1% of world population, I don't want to seperate myself from the community. I just want to be a person, and have other definitions than just queer. I never felt happy or proud with who I am. I never felt the need to distinct one thing from the another. I just took it as something natural. I want to feel and not to question it all the time. Besides everything I just said, I don't think that it actually matters. For me, it's not about liking "men" or "women" or "this sexually, that romantically". For me, it's about loving a particular person. And everything that is about you and them. What you've been through together. That's all. Feelings and relationships are too complicated to label everything all the time, and I don't understand people who make it a big deal.

I think there's a thin like between wanting your pronouns to be respected to forcing people to bend around you to respect your identity. Like they/them exists in actual grammar, everyone knows what it is and how to use it but a lot of these newer gen Z identities that use stuff like "Neo Pronouns" legitimately require you to learn a shit ton of new made up words just to refer to that person in third person. That is the line I don't think we should cross, english is already confusing enough and instead of making do with what they have they actively just make up new words and demand people to study it like it matters.

You shouldn't be so eager to "respect" them. The pronoun thing is a con job, and they have disrespected you by asking. The pronouns in question are YOURS, not theirs. That's not how language works. The pronouns you use don't belong to others, they belong to you. Don't let people trick you into surrendering what is yours. Pronouns are used when you refer to people, not when you talk to them directly. And how you refer to people is entirely up to you; it is influenced by respect (you will refer to others respectfully if they have earned your respect), but ultimately it's your choice, exclusively. Someone can say to you, "I am a woman", and you might perceive them that way, and then you might refer to them with female pronouns. But if you don't perceive them that way, and you allow them to trick you into consciously overriding your perception of them and using speech that does not come naturally, you have surrendered something to them, and they have given nothing in return. Because ultimately, all identity is negotiated. The part of identity that is self-defined is unique, impossible to convey, and largely irrelevant. You can "identify" as a genius, but if you walk into the room and say stupid things, your identity is actually that of an idiot - that is how people perceive you, that is the identity you negotiated with them, through words and actions. Who you are then, is an ever shifting mutual agreement; a compromise and middle ground between the image you want to project, and the image you actually did project. As such, you can influence your identity, but you can't define it. To put it simply, the pronoun game is an attempt to dodge the negotiation entirely; to demand that which should be earned.

@@NicholasBrakespear I disagree. As a Cis Man I would feel immensely disrespected and dehumanised if someone used female pronouns on me just because I have long hair and they perceive me as a woman. Of course it's a very specific situation but you shouldn't disrespect people's pronouns just because they are "yours". If you perceive them some way that's whatever, but actively going against what is comfortable for them is just cruel and disrespectful. Merely refering to someone with the right pronouns shouldn't be earned. It's an easy thing to do and it doesn't take anything away from you by doing it. It's just something you should do as a form of basic respect for another human being. Someone asking for you to respect their pronouns isn't "HEY BOW DOW BEFORE ME AND RESPECT ME!!!!" it's actually more of "Hey, I hope you can do this simple thing that makes me more comfortable, since we're both humans you would understand, right?" You wouldn't go around kicking people off their wheelchair for example, this is an extreme example but it's another thing that comes with basic respect for other human beings, so I'll use it as an analogy. Just because you CAN push someone off a wheelchair doesn't mean it wouldn't be disrespectful, and that person asking you not to push them isn't asking you to freaking bow down and become their servant, they want to be respected as humans. Hope the analogy made sense

@@slaybutton1692 "...if someone used female pronouns on me just because I have long hair and they perceive me as a woman..." If you looked like a woman, if you had long hair and feminine features, and had none of the body language/clothing or other visual cues to indicate that you're a man and identify as a man... you might be offended, but it's not their fault, if offense was not intended; that's on you. "...they perceive me as a woman..." Note, you're complaining about their perception. Are they not entitled to perceive the world through their eyes? If you looked so much like a woman that they thought you were a woman, you failed at negotiating your identity - you strolled through the world shouting with your every action "I am a woman!" and then complained that someone thought you were a woman. Now, if someone addressed you in a female way because you had long hair, and they saw you from behind in a queue or something? Yeah, that's a bit of an unfortunate situation. Happens frequently. But they misread, and if they're a normal person, their immediate response would be, "Oh, I'm sorry." They intended no disrespect, and they promptly showed respect with the apology. Their assumption was natural, given the information they had, and the basic social contract we all share. What would be offensive is if, on learning that you were a man, that you just happened to have long hair and they'd reached the wrong conclusion, they deliberately continued to refer to you in feminine terms. That would be a deliberate attempt to belittle you, and you should be offended by this. "you shouldn't disrespect people's pronouns just because they are "yours"" Yeah I think you're missing the point there, spectacularly. The entire point is that they're not that person's pronouns; they do not belong to that person. They are a tool of communication used by you to refer to that person in the third person, not in the second person. "Merely refering to someone with the right pronouns shouldn't be earned" Yes, it should. All respect is earned, without exception. Some of it is earned by default, by the nature of society - if you walk down the street and encounter another human in civilized society, you show them the fundamental socially-earned respect of not assuming they're an enemy; of not suddenly getting defensive at their mere presence, and of behaving a civilized way (not shouting in their face, not getting too close, not staring at them relentlessly etc). This basic respect is still earned; it was earned by the mutual social contract we all agree to, by living in this society; that we are civilians, and that so long as we all behave according to a certain basic broad behavioural pattern, we are all worthy of a certain base level of respect. It's worth noting, dressing and behaving according to a general broad template for gender? Actually part of the social contract. People agree to treat you and refer to you in a certain way, based on you adhering to certain patterns, to avoid misunderstandings. To meet everyone in the middle. If you break that part of the contract by drastically deviating from those patterns... well, that'd be why they didn't show you all the respect you think you're due. Because oddly enough... you actually didn't show them the basic respect of adhering to the same social contract that binds them. "It's an easy thing to do and it doesn't take anything away from you by doing it." It literally does, as I've explained. How you refer to other people is your right; whether you do so respectfully is a matter of individual choice, with the caveat that it goes both ways. If someone has earned your respect, and you don't show them the respect they've earned, you have lost their respect, and they can withhold it the way you did. "Someone asking for you to respect their pronouns isn't "HEY BOW DOW BEFORE ME AND RESPECT ME!!!!"" No, it's more like, "Hey, I'm demanding that you moderate your choice of words when you're talking about me according to my criteria, or I'll be offended, which is a social threat aimed at you, because if you offended me then you are indebted to me and owe me emotional compensation." You may as well go around saying, "I'd like you to refer to me as your best friend and a wonderful person when talking about me to other people, or I'll be sad and it'll be your fault." That's not how this works. That's not how society works, and it's not how language works as a middle ground for individual experience. You don't get to change the basic social contract on a whim. "You wouldn't go around kicking people off their wheelchair for example, this is an extreme example but it's another thing that comes with basic respect for other human beings, so I'll use it as an analogy." You see, this argument presents you in a very, very bad light. This is lazy; conflating a refusal to accept artificially, externally imposed regulation of personal expression... with physical violence. This is why everyone has a problem with this entire pronoun game - this is where it always leads. And it's a very dark place indeed. Because once you can so casually conflate physical violence with a refusal to accept new linguistic rules, once you've drawn that line between the two and falsely correlated them, you can claim victimhood for entirely subjective reasons. You can claim that because you FELT a thing, someone is guilty of a crime as serious as physically attacking you. And indeed, this has happened. A lot. And the problem with this happening, is that if anyone takes you seriously? If anyone believes that your emotional state is equivalent to your physical state, you are justified in reciprocating physically over a perceived slight. "It's so easy, why can't you just roll over and surrender" - the same old lines, the same old argument. The same old coercive abusive trick of reframing an unreasonable demand as something small, something entirely reasonable, so that the act of refusal paints the victim as the villain. No.

It's more like a fandom of whiny gen zs who instead of doing something good with other life are making up sexual orientation or gender identities. talk about labels and those weird pronounce. whine and throwing tantrum on everyone who disagree with them. and of course abusing the term "queer" just to be cool because for them being simply gay/lesbian/bi is too boring (even if they never admit it) This is not the community I knew when I came out. the worst thing about it is that people think that all the gays, lesbians, bisexuals, asexuals and classic trans are like those whiny people. We can see that the homophobia isincrising. all the hard work we have done so far is just going reverse. The are ruining all and who would have to fix everything? us! the normal LGBT people

What does queer even mean? My grandma used to use it to refer to someone she found strange or suspicious.

This! I am 23 y/o lesbian and the amount of people pushing themselves to our commmunity who are "non-binary" and who tell us lesbians we are transphobic for not taking "girl-dick" is absolutely insane. And people think I am one of them for loving women. Nope, but it is us who are getting the damage done pushed to our backs to get it sorted. And the amount of queer term that is used on us all without our consent? No thanks!

@@lainey7985 If I remember correctly it means like questioning. So like you haven't figured out your sexuality yet. But it has other definitions too.
