When Julia said that she was using the correct prounon of 'she' to address a single woman (meaning one woman) who was appearing on her show. The guest said that Julia had used the incorrect pronoun and said her pronouns were 'they' and 'them'. That is not reality. This is what my post was referring to, and you are the only person not to get that. Your post makes no sense in reply to what I had said. You are talking about something completely different in the conversation and that I've addressed elsewhere in the comments section.

I would have LOVED to have Julia have apologised and asked her how her sentence was incorrect, “she is a journalist and a presenter at…”. And then Have her correct the sentence on air to say “THEY are journalists and presenters at…” and then, we would have been confused because there was only one guest, and then Julia would have to ask her when she expects her colleague to join as there were two of THEM to be invited to the show. You can’t “affirm” an anorexic because affirming their belief would be harmful to the individual. If you affirm that they are “fat” when they are in reality extremely poorly nourished and need to eat and drink, then they will continue to do their same behaviours. Affirming an anorexic is directly harmful. However, being considerate and using pronouns to the best of your ability, just like trying to use someone’s preferred nickname instead of their whole legal name, is not harmful to the individual in any way. Julia’s argument is completely bizarre and not even on the same tangent. One is harmful to the individual, one is not.

It has been used that way as slang. If you’re watching a person do a backflip let’s say they’re a dude, you could say “look at him go!” Or “look at them go!” People used the word that way before all this trans nonsense so I would take her usage of them as the casual way it’s used in the above example, and with a grain of salt!

You need to introduce the subject correctly before They or Them can be used in the singular. Even then, it can only be done when not addressing the person directly. In other words, she is wrong. Indeed, she could not be more wrong if she set out win a wrongness competition on the island of Wrong in the great Wrong sea on the planet Wrong.

All I’m saying is, if someone tells you “There’s someone in the parking lot screaming” I’ve literally never in my 30 years of speaking my mother-tongue English heard any person respond “what is he or she saying?” Literally never one time. People will ask “what are they saying?”

The second she said she was multiple people it should have been brought up that there's a word for that already it's called insane.

trans means you don't identify as the gender you were assigned as birth. nonbinary means any gender identity outside of the binary identities of man or woman. trans is an umbrella term which includes nonbinary.

Mate the standards of education here have plummeted. Most kids cannot speak grammatically correct English, their vocabulary is limited and their knowledge even of the subjects they are supposed to be studying at University is for most extremely limited. Lecturers having to reach remedial calculus for Mathematics students etc,etc. It's appalling.

@user-gc8pc3ol6l Aye mate, I know what you mean. My youngest sons partner is at university, and she is from a proper working class council estate. She has to help with her siblings, plus she has 2 jobs and volunteers at a youth club where she comes from. She won't take any crap. She told me once when she was in class. A student asked for her pronoun, and she said my name is Milli, and the student said that they identified as a frog. She replied I am not going to say that!! But in Bradford, style said don't go to France. I told my son that he has a smart and strong woman. These people are nothing compared to what she has had to put with in others. She has had more emotional trauma than all of them put together. I connect with her because I am from the same place. Proper trauma is not someone getting your pronouns wrong.

Trying to stand out by making yourself appear "different" just doesn't work, and the smirk doesn't make you look either intelligent or superior
