Rather interesting… The old style should be discounted at least 5K..I wish the old days were back when I would go to a dealer and they would discount the truck 5K to 10K without haggling….. i’m one of the few who believes those days may return…🤔😳

The real reason everyone should get rid of them is due to the faulty lifters used for the DOD system and the faulty torque converters. These issues destroy the motors which is why GM is currently being sued.

Bingo, wouldn’t touch another one of these trucks with the cylinder deactivation. Getting burned on one engine with a collapsed lifter and destroyed cam was enough for me. That stupid system costs way more to fix than it ever saves in fuel.

As usual, great video, Ben. Last July, I bought a GMC Denali 3.0 Duramax for two reasons: 1. I actually wanted the "old" interior. I like my trucks to look a little "trucky" and the Denali was already a stretch.... It's a little fancy for me. 2. It was about the time that GM was removing options (I had tried to order a High Country and cameras other than a back up camera were unavailable). I found this one on a lot and jumped on it because it was a "pre chip shortage" truck. A true Denali with the Ultimate package..not to be confused with the 2022 Ultimate trim level. The new interior is really nice but it just wasn't important to me. It's by far the best truck I've ever owned and I would encourage anyone to pick up a 2022 limited over the refresh. Keep up the great work, Ben.

Yea I second this… 21 Sierra 1500 at4 here and I prefer having less sensors, cameras, just less tech that can go out down the road. An example I like a headunit that I can replace and possibly still be able to go aftermarket or oem if I wanted to. The way cars are moving these days…. Good luck replacing the tablet that’s hardwired into everything on your truck basically. Nice? Sure… but some folks are more practical and less swayed by gimmicky futuristic tech.

I bought a Silverado T1 platform in Nov. 2019, LT, Z71, All Star package, and IDK, maybe because it was built early in the manufacturing run, the fit, finish, and mechanicals have been flawless, with the exception of TCC chatter, which was fixed by upgrading to the new Mobil 1 full synthetic transmission fluid. I'm old school, if I wanted a truck with the comfort of a minivan, I would have bought a minivan. Not selling mine at any price, even though currently I can get more than I paid for it. 2020 3.0 Duramax RST 4x4 has been awesome, 30k miles and not a single problem. Even running hard off road. I'd probably only consider upgrading due to the new tow rating is almost 4,000 lbs higher on the 2022. And maybe for an actual 2 speed transfer case with 4lo. With the update to software, the computer will count more teeth before “starting”. It gives the truck like a .5 second longer crank overall, but no more missed starts. More info is available online about it if you’re interested. Basically, it turns out it can be ‘fixed’ easily and without pulling the truck apart =)

I had a 2019 Silverado but traded it in October 2021 and ordered the 2022 Refresh Dec. 18, 2021 the 1st day they were available to order. I had to do a short term lease on a 2021 Dodge 5.7 Hemi for 4 months. Well my 2022 Chevy Silverado Refresh RST 6.2 came in Mar. 23, 2022. Sunroof, Power Back Glass, Leather Seats, 13.4 INCH SCREEN, etc.. was better than I expected. After having a 2015 -5.3 the 2nd year after the last upgrade started, then buying a 2019 -5.3 which was the same plain interior I knew my 2019 was over once I saw the Refresh version on KZread coming soon.. And at the time vehicles were up 43% on resell. Needless to say I sold the truck after driving it for 2 years and made a 1k more than I paid plus a good check after they paid the bank. I love my new 2022 Refresh and the 6.2 is a different beast.. 🤔 what's the new slang.. OH, HIT HIT DIFFERENT!! Thats why the Old version 2022's are stacking up, and the fact there's almost no price difference.

  • @thomassangermano7234

The Refresh interior is the reason I would argue. I traded in my 2010 Silverado that I loved because it became a rust bucket after 12 years of New England weather. However I was not going to buy a truck that basically had the same interior 12 years later. I waited 2 months to specifically get the Refresh interior, which is a game changer if you use your cell phone for everything, business, pleasure, etc. Why buy a new truck if your going to get old tech. More importantly, I was one of the lucky ones that got the 5.3 without DFM and the truck runs amazingly. No stutter, like the old engine when it would switch between 4 and 8 cylinders - Chevy truck owners know exactly what I am taking about. Lastly the thing I hate though is this automatic tailgate, that doesn’t have an override, it’s annoying and just dumb - it’s going to fail in the dead of winter when I need to get my tools.

It was the last model of that body style and they had worked out all of the kinks if they even had any. I have had NO major problems and have done just routine maintenance (oil changes, brakes, wipers) for 144,000 miles, and have been everywhere and pulled lots of trailers. I only recently decided to change the spark plugs and the gear oil in the transfer case and differential for the first time; the oil was clean. I don't think the new Silverado's will last like that. They seem mostly about the swag. But, I'd love to have one. Unfortunately, the payment on my Silverado is $0 and has been for the past 13 years.

The trail Boss trucks look great, Its a great concept if not mired with mechanical problems. I have been hoping GM would get rid of the 5.3 and modernize the truck with an updated V8. I have understood the cylinder deactivation feature takes years off the life of the truck. More so than the savings in fuel if any it may provide. Trucks are not bought to be gas savers. People need dependable and work to be done. I have a 5.7 Tundra but its not my daily driver. The days of owning a truck as a daily driver are probably over here in the states. Putting stupid miles on a 50,000 dollar truck just to the grocery store and back is a waste of money. My 2018 has 23000 miles. The first year i drove it put 265.00 in fuel every month. I decided to buy a used small car for the savings in fuel. Its not a complete wash in terms of savings but if i sell the truck it can be. When i would decide not to drive somewhere because i knew i was stopping to put gas in it then i knew having a vehicle that got 36mpg and drive anywhere and not cost a fortune in fuel that day. If the trail Boss came in a 2500 series truck it would really be cool.

The biggest reason people get rid of the new Silverado is because it is junk! Bad engines, bad transmissions, bad front axles, rattles everywhere! I bought a 2020 Silverado, had to have tires replaced because they were out of round and one even blew out. Transmission died with 5000 miles on it, dealer replaced torque converter and did fluid flush. Always had a rear window rattle that would not go away. GM is just pure crap! Traded that POS on a 2021 Titan, best decision I made concerning a new truck. The Titan has run flawless for over a year now and with a 5yr/100,000 mi. warranty. No AFM, no cylinder deactivate, just pure 400hp getting 21mpg running 75 mph on the highway with the AC on! Nissan has nailed it with the Titan!

I've had my heart set on a 2022 LT Trail Boss REFRESH for a while now, but since I started my research, I've found Chevy has fallen short in one area in particular. The seating is terrible. Small thin scarcely padded seats throughout compared to the Ford and Ram. Although I experienced the new interior and was disappointed by the poor design of the seats, I'm still going to fully test drive the new Chevy and compare it to the new Ram Limited. The Ram's luxurious interior is hands down the winner between the two and the seats in the Ram are just heavenly, but I love that the Chevy comes with bucket seats and a center shift console, and I do prefer the look of the Chevy's exterior. Ram has a center shift console available, but in the GT option and only on the Rebel. So far, the Ram has exceeded in most categories, and I suppose the test drive will be the deciding factor. With each truck well optioned the Ram will still cost about 8K more, but these particular options for the Ram just aren't available on the Chevy such as the Air Ride suspension, HUD technology, 19 speaker Harman Kardon sound, and the dual glass panel roof. Or maybe I'll just keep on driving my 2014 Tundra and enjoy not having a car payment.

Thanks for the video.. I'm sure anyone looking to purchase a vehicle from Chevrolet will find it useful.. BUT, a word to those thinking of a Silverado Trail Boss with the 5.3L engine Or any pick up with that particular engine......DON'T..... You are almost guaranteed to have lifter issues. Anything from a ticking noise (lifters) to outright lifter collapse and motor failure. And it can happen at any time. In warranty and out of warranty. I own a 2019 trailboss and after 23000 miles lifters on bank one needed to be replaced under warranty. And at 74000 miles a lifter in bank 2 collapsed. It caused severe damage to the crank shaft and a new engine was put in it at almost $9000... My cost. There are thousands of these vehicles out there with this type of problem... I totally hate it when I call them and they say thank you for being a part of the GMC Chevrolet family. I can only imagine the problems with a first year model middengine Corvette. There are many who like the "old" interior (meaning mostly the instrument cluster) better than the "new". The "new" instrument cluster does not look that different from Ford, Ram or Toyota. The "old" cluster looks like a Chevy truck. Plus, it gives you more real time information than the "new" idiot lights do. And, for someone who likes to electronically shift through the gears, having the gear shifter on the column makes a whole lot more sense than having to reach down to the console for your shifts. The console shifter takes up a huge amount of space. A console shifter makes sense on a Corvette even if it is an automatic, but not so much on a truck. It is hardly a "major sacrifice for someone to buy the old version today".

No one wants these V8 trucks. Then the dealership is reselling these "used" trail bosss for like more than the new ones. It's insane. Seems to me if you want me to buy a truck with a V8 in this environment we are living right now, you better discount this truck at least 10k below the new ones. My prediction is in the last year with the insane money dealers have paid people for their used trucks, these dealers are gonna have a huge problem in the next year. Cause no one is going to buy these trucks that probably use 120$ in gas a week. They are going to loose their asses and its gonna be a huge disaster for the automotive industry. Meanwhile we have a president fiddling his thumbs instead of getting in front of problems he just lets them linger until they are un fixable.

I currently own a 2017 and use a Range Tech to keep it in 8-cylinder mode. Because the newer Silverados have DFM, where they drop down to 1 or 2 cylinders, and have that insipid auto start/stop, I don't think I would ever buy another one. However, if the combustible engine goes away all together, the point may be moot. Also, try replacing the battery on one of these newer Silverados--biggest PITA ever!

I've been noticing 2021 truck prices are slowly coming down. You can't get a 2023 silverado crew cab v8 4x4 for less than $50k. You can find low mileage 2021's for closer to $36k-42k. Ends up being $10k-20k cheaper for a 2 year old truck with less than 30k miles. Are the trade ins related to lifter and transmission issues?

  • @smarticus6384

The 8-speed transmission and lifter failure fiasco has ruined me for life from ever buying another GM vehicle, especially a Silverado. I moved on to the Ford F-150 and can't believe just how much better of a pick-up truck the F-150 is when compared to GM. I was a very loyal Chevrolet customer and owned four new Silverados over the years. But I learned that my loyalty to them wasn't the same loyalty they had for me, which was none. I love Chevy's, but I am terrified to own one. I took a brand new 2016 home for the weekend once. I fell in love with it as soon as I got behind the wheel. That weekend I took it out on the highway and got it up to 70 mph and the truck shook like it was going to come apart. I was flat out broken hearted. I youtube'd it like anyone would and found all the videos people were posting about the problem. So I've been doing the youtube thing because I am looking for a new truck. All I see is video after video where these GM engines are failing with less than 5000 miles on them. I think the new GMC is downright gorgeous and I want one so bad. It kills me because I just don't have faith in the brand.

I had a 18 silverado with the 5.3 8spd crew cab. Was a huge disappointment, was in the dealership for multiple transmission issues, a starter went out on it. And it was developing valve train noise before I got rid of it. And the overall fit and finish of panel gaps and material quality was just awfull. It's stuff you don't see until you get the car home and give it a first wash and really go over it. I really will have a hard time buying another gm product. Will probably go back to a ford f150 or try out the new toyota sequoia after it's been on the market for a few yrs.
