Hopeful for the game. I really want to play it. I've purchased a few ships, tried FPS combat, and ship combat. I love it. But I'm not ready to step in again until they get the base-gameplay loop working. And by that I mean, the MMO aspect of it. I want to log on, play with my friends, interact with a larger community, and build towards something. Once they stop calling the game an Alpha, I'll check it out again. Until then, if it's still missing a massive fraction of its feature-set, it's not ready for me to play.

I used to think Escape From Tarkov was peak immersion. Then, I bought into Star Citizen and purchased a Constellation Andromeda. Then, I got some friends on the game, and we geared up and loaded the ship with supplies, ammo, and provisions. Then my buddy shot another player-controlled ship with one of my turrets, and it started this whole escapade that involved our ship vs. the other guy's ship and him wiping out on the side of a mountain. Super gamer boner occurred when we landed, picked through the crash debris, and recovered much of his cargo. Then gamer euphoria happened when that player got mad as hell at us in the chat while we were picking his carcass clean for shooting him down. All of us going to jail shortly afterward was just a bonus.

Exactly! I had so many attempts at enjoying EVE for more than just a week or 2 over the years, but the lack of piloting and space legs combined with too much emphasis on politics, social drama and dispensable ships just doesn't end up working for me. ED drew my attention many times but apart from the ship mechanics everything else looks so arcady and outdated, a little bit like NMS which is too cartoony for me. It also splits the community between online and offline, game versions, platforms, addons, etc etc.... which I really hate. Space Engineers is something I wish we had in SC, just like the exploration of ED, but I just can't get behind the LEGO aesthetic and the whole "you do whatever on your own server" concept. X4 doesn't have multiplayer.... ... In short, SC combines way more of the different things that attract me than any of the other games.

It’s very simple for me. When Star Citizen is running on all cylinders, it’s nearly the most beautiful and interesting game I’ve ever seen or played. When the servers are bogged down and the bugs are running rampant, it’s merely annoying and tedious at worse. 3.23 is without a doubt the biggest step in the right direction in the games history. It’s definitely still a long way from being totally legit, but that day is far closer than most people realize.

I love opinion of that guy who can aim really good. "Community have been brainwashed, brainwashed, manipulation, what is happening, this isn't real" He claim he undestands the game and could like it, but in the same time complains on the game state (On which he was informed at least two times before he created character, and at least once acknowledged the fact, game is in EARLY Alfa on a pop up window before game even launches) and shitting on community. Literally he walked on a building site, sees the building still being build, sees people building it, and says "What the fuck, why there's no roof? Why there's no furniture or even paint on the walls? Where are my carpets?" And somehow anyone who tries to explain that "well they are not finished with fundaments and walls" is brainwashed. Then he responds "But they are building it for 10 years!" Like he could not understand that not all buildings are built the same way. A wooden shack that can only store a few tools that needs to be nailed down will take less time than a fucking skyscreaper.

Your comment is on point, I had the same feeling while watching the video and hearing those comments. It feels like: Either total ignorance or just being paid to speak nasty things. Anyway SC is not only about run, jump and shoot, so I can see why that dude was complaining 😂😂😂😂

  • @Lenartowy

    @Lenartowy

    Ай бұрын

@nikoulph imho the problem is that most of the games that allow public "Early access" to their alpha/beta tests are using those terms more for marketing sense than actually testing and fixing their games. Most AAA titles allow early access in like month before game releases. Most of the times there's nothing fixed or a tiny bit without real changes so when people are faced with a game that is really in Early Alpha they complain about performance which is done at the end of production, not at the beginning or middle. Problem starts when most of the modern games are basically a reskins of what we have today, so production time is lower than making everything from scratch, even the engine. Combine that and you will get an angry mob that thinks they understand, but in reality they barely scratched the surface.

And you're missing *THE* point which is CIG has at every level promised a feature, a launch, an asset or fix and failed to deliver on time. Most of those things they've never released as of yet and the ones they have released have been weeks or months later. Imagine being a loan shark or bank, you give your money to people who promise to return the money with interest and they never do on time, all whilst promising next week, next month. You would lose faith in that person, naturally. Its called mission creep for a *reason* and of course people feel like they're in a Ponzi scheme, promised bigger returns the longer they stay and believe. Not to mention the various legal changes CIG has done over the years such as obfuscating their money trail so people can't see what they're spending their money on after making a point they'd be transparent is in very bad faith. In short, the game has promise and deserves immense praise for what they've achieved, but the game and company especially deserves a lot of shit for how they've went about it, what they've currently got and when if ever the game will be finally finished.

They announced 42 was feature complete and the subsequent Star citizen patch is the largest that we have had so far. We may complain about the time it is taking, but I believe CIG has stated their plan and are sticking to it. It’s easy content for KZreadrs to forget what they have been told and complain. When the game works. There's nothing else quite like it. Unfortunately. It's not that it's a scam... Its the child of a Poorly organized idea. Some will say "But they've raised 600 Million!" And yes. They have. "They sell stupidly expensive ships!" Yes, they do. But... - They had to restart certain progress a few times due to original ideas either not working, Engines not supporting their ideas, or scope outgrowing. - They've technically been developing 2 games side by side. Squadron 42, a Single Player Campaign filled with Cutscenes, Missions, unique areas etc. And Star Citizen, The Open world RPG style space. - They've used that Money to set up several studios to better develop the game(s) And to get content out more quickly. And this has certainly helped. Especially since SQ42 is now Feature complete and many devs working on it are now focusing on SC. - They had to build their own engine while working on the game and while we don't have everything in the live b uild that the devs have in their own closed version. What is Possible in game. And the visuals are all beautiful. No other Space sim gets quite as close. - The Depth of what can be done is immense. How combat works, How ships already and will work soon. Mining, Salvage, Engineering, Cargo. The scope of everything is impressive. - Each and Every ship feels different. Feels 'alive.'. And this is before total Modularity and 'Gold Standard'. Gold Standard being where ships will end up. being fully interactive, every component, attachment point, Potential for being set on fire and taken apart piece by piece. The amount of Passion they put into every single flyable/Drivable vehicle is huge. - The game will be huge. We only have access to the Stanton System right now. Within a few months, We'll gain access to Pyro. And sometime after Squadron 42, We'll get the System that game takes place in as well. No Loading screens. No Fade to black transitions. Technically you could take off on one planet and Fly non stop to another planet and land all in one single travel. QT Drives simply shoot you forwards at blinding speeds. Star Citizen will define itself, That's for certain. It's just taking far too long. For anyone wanting to try it, I honestly just recommend they pick up one of the cheapest packs and enjoy it in small play sessions. Wait until things smoothen out and a full release is ACTUALLY visible on the Horizon.

The conclusion “12 years of development and still shit” is a fallacy in that it ignores or misinterprets the development of highly complex server and backend technology. However, at least many of the current bugs and errors in the game can be traced back to these and are therefore not comparable to the development level of a run-of-the-mill game like Tarkov

I don't necessarily disagree with you that 4.0 is "make or break," but I would add that server meshing is the make-or-break tech that the game needs. That and a fleshed-out next-gen economy. If those make it in 4.0, 4.1, or 4.2, it doesn't really matter. What matters is that they actually make it into the game at some point.

even if it makes it and it so-called "stable" Its not really gonna change much except it will just have more people in it. Its really what comes after server meshing if it works and if it works at scale...All the things CIG has talked about content and different systems being put in the game but said they couldn't because of the main blocker server meshing. Everyone's hyped for 4.0 I feel like im the only one thats hyped for what comes after. Quanta Sim? Long-Term progression other than just buying ships in game for example: Skills? Orgs actually in game? PvP over Territory Control? (CIG never talked about territory control but I imagine if basebuilding is a thing and if they let us build space stations it must mean we can claim different sectors in space...)

IF Server meshing Works and can be implemented without many issues. It'll also mean they can work on Server stability properly. Personally I think the reason they've NOT made Servers a ton better, is because the plan was always to replace how they work. No point in doing that 'before' and Just breaking them all over again. Pyro will be good for adding more varied gameplay. Risky Missions. Better planning for longer trips needed. larger ships for a Crew, beds, Storage, etc. Server Meshing. Being able to have some, 100-200 person battle around a Moon while EMT services, Repair/Refuel stations of a couple dozen are stationed On the planet a short QT Jump away. Having huge clashes that don't result in the rest of the server being totally void. This is where orgs are going to see the biggest jump in real use.

4.0 and Server Meshing aren't going to be the Jesus patch. Expect there to be a period where they push the performance of the servers to find out the data they need in order to get good metrics on how much the servers can handle. An example of this already was when they did the Tech Preview of Server Meshing and had up to 800 players on a server. They quickly realized they couldn't sustain that and cut it in half. They need to keep testing how their improvements are working and that will mean that sometimes they will make things worse. This can't be limited to PTU or Evocati because there aren't enough people to really hammer their systems with real world conditions. I'm pretty sure that the majority of people who are in PTU have better network connections and/or computers because otherwise they wouldn't stick around.

One thing I don't envy CIG at all is finding the balance between progress and playability / bugs. I mean they could probably progress faster but it wouldn't be playable. Or concentrate on removing bugs that will pop up later in any case, or improve systems that will be replaced. No matter which way they are leaning, some people are really upset. And if they take the middle ground, probably everyone.

Guys, let's be honest with ourselves. What the CIG is doing is a phenomenon nowadays - they've been doing for 10 years what any publisher would just put their dick on. These are the same people as Larian Studio and their Sven Vinke, only K. Roberts suffers not from DnD, but from star Wars of the 80s, i.e. both Sven Vinke and K. Roberts are enthusiasts and they love their work and are ready to spend all their income on them. But publishing houses are run by shareholders who care about video games like a cat cares about higher mathematics.. CIG do their job and slowly because they are pioneers, i.e. no one has done this before them, which means they solve problems as they arrive. This should be treated with respect and patience. If not, then call of duty anb battlefield are waiting for your money...

Recently, one member of an Org I'm a part of was attacked by pirates who destroyed him after he took too long to respond to their demands. A few minutes later the entire place became a warzone as we engaged the pirates and their reinforcements. Other times we had all these cool events planned, only to have to cancel them due to the amount of issues we ran into. It's like Star Trek Enterprise. Many times you'd rather pull your teeth out than endure what's happening on your screen, but if it works, by Q does it make all the previous agony worth it.

People often forget that it’s not yet a game, but a testing platform. Not many games have ever done open development live for everyone to try. Not everyone can be a tester on a project like this; some don’t have the patience to deal with bugs, server crashes, etc. There are features that people will love, and then there are some that people will hate. Nothing is set in stone until the game launches. We also forgot to mention that Squadron 42 is feature complete and should be ready for launch in 2024 or 2025 (TBD). I’ve seen major improvements in Star Citizen, so if people still want to believe it’s a scam, they can go ahead. Everyone has their own opinion. You can play the game for only 45 dollars and buy the ship in-game if you desire. People who spent money did so to support the game. Ships won’t always be purchasable with real money . Ive met people say the game is shit because they dont like 1 of the feature and then ive seen other love that feature . No one is forced to play and if we get together and try to push the game farther it will be better than any game curently avalaible . Game dev nowaday kinda sucks at making game and the last massively played MMO is World of warcraft . Lets make MMO great again :P

I think many critics of star citizen do not understand two things: a) The pure scale of this game and how much work it needs to create that. We are so overfed with "AAA-Titles" from the big publishers, which produce a new fifa every year and a new CoD every 2 or 3 years, that they expect every game to have this kind of fast development. Star Citizen is just something completely different. The kind of stuff Star Citizen creates needs years or decades, especially if one is pioneering in something. b) We play the game in a phase where people usually don't get to play a game. They could be more efficient with holding it up until its ready for early access, but then they would need another way of funding. Like a big publisher, who then milks the team dry with needs and deadlines. This way we got to see the game in a very unfinished state. I think its fine. And before somebody claims something like: People have to defend their investments: I havent spent 1€. Got the game gifted and payed nothing. But i'm also a developer and understand the process a bit. I think they do an extremly good job. There are mistakes happening. But thats okay. They are human and they are pioneers, one can expect that.

I looked out the window and saw Crusader a gas giant, so I spawned my ship and walked out to the landing pad. Oh my gosh, it took my breath away as the sun came around the side of Crusader. I walked to my ship, opened the doors to it, sat in the pilot seat, powered it up, and took off. I headed straight for Crusader and I blew up. I then realized I could not land on planets but still had a blast. 8 years later... I can land on planets, fly into the gas giant called Crusader with volumetric clouds all around me, and land on floating sky platforms. I have to take breaks to not get angry at the Triple AAA industry when I see what CIG is doing, for I have watched this Universe evolve around me. I can imagine games I loved in the past in this engine, and they would be worlds better. SC will take some time to bake for it is the most ambitious project ever conceived and no one had the balls to do it but the man the myth Chris Roberts.

Small correction, server meshing has already started testing earlier this year. It was demonstrated as working on a closed test with some upwards of 800 concurrent players on a single mesh, albeit with a lot of bugs and performance issues. It's also been announced as included in the next major patch for the game, so we should see it going live in about 3-6 months from now. Which shows a lot of confidence in how close it is. It's always been a year away maybe, never the headlining feature of the next patch. Which also to extrapolate more on why there's excitement for the game now, server meshing is the lynchpin feature. It's the last big piece of underlying tech that the game relies on. There's numerous features that they've held off on delivering because they need server meshing, and bugs that have plagued the game for years which they have avoided fixing because server meshing would potentially make that work redundant. Back in the last CitizenCon, where they demo'd small scale working server meshing and announced the singleplayer campaign was feature complete so focus would shift back from the singleplayer to the mmo. Server meshing has kind of represented a turning point, where development switches from building up proof of concept features to actually polishing up and finishing things. In the time since that announcement that the singleplayer was feature complete, we've seen a significant increase in the amount of content coming in patches too. A whole bunch of features they've been talking about for years had been developed for the singleplayer side got ported over to the mmo side that's currently playable. The current patch ended up dropping it's most significant feature, which had a ton of other related features that had to be dropped alongside it, and it's still about as much stuff as we got all of the updates last year combined. The preceding patch was also pretty substantial as well, and this next patch looks to possibly be even bigger. For the first time in a long while, the progress in Star Citizen isn't just all talk. So 4.0, the next patch, will be a huge milestone for the game. Early tests of server meshing showed a significantly better server tick rate, which like a solid half of the game's problems seem to tie back to. The braindead AI that has plagued the game actually become surprisingly competent in the rare case you get a server with decent tick rate. Issues of falling through the world, items not equipping/unequipping, grenades returning to hand and exploding when you throw them, desync issues, crashing into invisible asteroids, and a handful of other issues all seem to be at least made worse or more frequent, if not entirely caused by low server tick rate. So if server meshing allows them to run the servers at higher tick rate, that alone could potentially fix a number of issues. Even if it doesn't though, server meshing has been used as the excuse for why fixing issues isn't a priority, and development has shifted to focus on working towards a finished product over developing as many new features as possible. I kind of expect 4.0 to be a buggy mess of a patch as all the major new tech patches have been, but I expect the patches after it should only really get better afterwards. It won't be the god patch that suddenly makes the game perfect, but it's likely to be the biggest single step towards that point.

No one ever seems to understand what buying this game and playing it means right now. If you are not ok with being a tester and finding/reporting bugs - DO NOT PLAY. You are not entitled to a perfect unbuggy game, but if you want to voice what you do find that is wrong, buy in and start your journey as a game tester.

Been a backer for a decade now and was immediately one of the first concierge when it came out. That being said, I'm one of the ones not in the deluded state. The game has been in development for what seems like forever, and proprietary tech aside, the pace is just depressingly slow and falls short constantly. Its quite literally what I've come to expect by this point. I stopped being a paid sub about 4 years ago when we were in another development black hole and have no intention of giving them another cent until this thing is finished and released. I'm an actual trader/investor, so knowing when to stop putting money into something is kind of what I specialize in. This is one of those things that's been on a bearish trend for so many years, its actually doubtful if any announcements are real, if any promises of new tech are ever going to occur, and if the money is even being spent properly. That's the reputation CIG has built over this last over-a-decade project. That all being said, I do not regret having put what I did into this. I do think they are slowly heading towards a finished product finally, but if this and squadron 42 aren't out and I do mean OUT and FINISHED IN OUR HANDS before 2025 is over, everyone should dump constantly on the game and its devs as the biggest scam ever so they can never escape the stigma. Even the content creators that aren't desperate to keep their tiny corner of the internet alive so they don't have to get real jobs are saying they're on the last straw here. CIG either releases this and finishes before 2025 or we're all done and will turn on them.

been a backer since Kickstarter & I've never regretted it. I understand what is required to create as a programmer myself, so I have no issues with the game taking the time it needs to be "done". Because lets be honest even when all the main features are ready for showtime, the game will never be "done" as they will continue to build upon it.

But it's just the most impressive game out there, with amazing tech, graphics and depth. Not interested in another Assassins Creed, CoD or BF any more. Star Citizen is also pushing the industry as a whole.

In all games I enjoyed it was allways fine for me to buy my self into the game ,because I have a time consuming job and I value my rare spare time and wont waste it ,grinding my ass off. Thats why I play eve since launch, on an off. We live in times where we were dissapointted by the gaming industry allmost every time, gems like Helldivers or Baldurs Gate 3 are rare like unicorns. So I dont follow a cult and I am not a Roberts fanboy and I am aware that the money I spend is support for an ambitious project what can fail at any point in time but I like its vision. When I decide to buy one ship it has to be useful for my way of gaming, interest in the planed or partial existing game loop . Wife is happy, fridge is filled to the brim, I dont smoke, rarely drink beverages, retirement is as save as it is for anybody it this times, so why not ?

Ive been a backer for 4 Years, and i completely agree, that in SC's current state its good to come back for large patches, then leave for a little bit. But i can honestly say 3.23 has made vast improvements. yes, bugs still occur, the odd mission that bugs, or the odd falling through the floor etc. But is nowhere near as annoying as previously. If CIG keep up at the rate 3.23 has shown, ill be leaning more to playing a lot more than previously. Its such a pleasure to play at the minute. Makes me excited for 1.0.. if it ever arrives!

CIG is barely scratching the surface when it comes to how capable their StarEngine can become, it is fundamentaly a game engine based on MMO, BUT that doesn't have to be the only game they create with it. They could easily make a true planetsized world in the fantasy genre and create something we never seen before. Imagine Elden Ring with their game engine, a huge singleplayer player experience, and if they want add co-op and multiplayer with ease since it is one of the pillars of that said engine. I hope CIG branch out and create more games, because why stop with SQ42 and Starcitizen? A good hack n slash with true scale and size with destructibles etc. Ofc gameplay is important, but with their tools the iterations can be done pretty fast. CIG has endless possibilities for the future IF the tech works as intended. Xbox is definitly keeping a watch and wallet on standby. At least want to get their games into their eco system sooner than later when everything launches.
